Hey all, I was wondering if anybody more experience in SR 4e can help me out with making a Face character. I was thinking he will be charismatic as like the old spice guy lol, but be able to kick ass and take names like Jason Statham from the Transporter movies. What do you guys think? What attributes and skills should i focus on the most? Thanks, I appreciate any ideas (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Well depends. Would you mind chrome or would you rather be the kind of face that can make it past those nasty censors? In that case bioware is your friend which will definitely change your options. Any details you have in mind?

This is a face/fighter char I built (note that some house rules prevents Restricted Gear (for muscle toner 4) and FFBA for example).

Must include grease-fighting and deflecting rockets specializations.

Awwesome! thanks guys for the input, great suggestions! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Sorry for not replying sooner, was busy then the holidays came, lol. Anyway I think i'll do the bioware augments and maybe go adept. However, I saw Inception, and now I feel like playing the character Arthur "The point man". He sounds like a badass character to play as. But how would you build a "point man"........he sounds like legwork guy and with some good skills, so maybe its not that great to build him. However, just how the character carries himself sounds pretty fun to play as. What do you guys think?

A legwork man should be able to gather information in anyway. Data search, social skills, maybe a bit of hacking, and heavy on contacts. Maybe a recon drone or two. It's pretty doable if you don't mind have 10-12 dice in a fair amount of skills without a lot of specialties. Could make a workable face. 3 charisma + 3 from tailored pheromones + 4 influence group + 6 from empathy software = 16 social dice. That's very easy to do and you should still be able to have enough points to get the rest of your information gathering skills.

How does empathy software work though? don't you need a visual component and a commlink to run it? or can you directly run it off your body with augments? |

Well you can get an emotitoy which runs the software for you but that could get taken away. The empathy software would work like you said. Running off a commlink while seeing the world through some sort of sensor. Most likely cyber eyes or glasses or something linked to the commlink. It adds its rating to your social dice pool. So rating 6 empathy software adds 6 dice.

Empathy software only helps with a Judge Intentions test. Great when you want to know if the Johnson is about to get sick of your Sam's shit and walk. Useless in trying to convince him to stay. On a more personal GM note: try bringing a fuzzy little emotitoy to the table for a negotiation and have the Johnson take you seriously. Remember, the thing is useless unless it can see what it's trying to work the software's mojo on, so that sucker'll have to right in plain sight unless you get to the meet early and stash it somewhere.
As for enhancing the build; if you are going the route of the bio-adept, don't forget Kinesics, and don't underestimate the usefulness of Linguistics (power, quality, or if you're really going for gross, both; nothing beats being able to learn a language rapidly, and instantly getting two extra dice on it when you do). |

Empathy soft ware can be discreetly used in real time during negotiations or social interactions, adding its rating as a dice pool bonus to the character’s Social skill tests. The last sentence of it's description. Emotitoys are specialized hardware to run empathy software so you don't need a tricked out commlink. |

I'll have to read the entry again, but an emotitoy is just as it sounds, a toy. You don't see Kissinger bringing a Tickle Me Elmo to the table to break the diplomatic ice. Specialized or not, they are read and react to people's emotions in order to amuse them. If anything an emotitoy's bonus applies only to itself, unless you're jacked into it. And then, well, let the horror begin.

Ya I know their a toy when you get them stock but there is no logical reason that someone with a decent hardware skill can't rebuild them to look like a pendent or lapel or anything else besides a toy.
