You'd think that would be exactly who "printed" the scrip though... A run on Area Ink anyone? Pun intended.

Economically wouldn't it be bad for a subsidiary to print its own Scrip? I mean I get the whole ares doesn't make Ares money, Ares subsidiary A prints it for them, but Ares money would have to be universal for a number of reasons-

a. Product recognition. I mean its free adverising, but also how much confidence can consumers have in Ares Scrip if it whoops baskin Robbins for variety. (New Ares™ Scrip, comes in 457 flavors!) So like National currencies it'd have to be pretty strictly regulated.

b. Counterfeiting-less variety means less to look for. If each subsidiary printed its own Scrip, how sure could any one be that they were getting real money that was worth a damn.

Just some thoughts.

Consider that the stuff at a Stuffer-Shack ™©®(etc.) does not typically have an Aztechnology logo, even though they produce most of it.

Sometimes the whole purpose of a subcorp is to look like an entirely seperate company.

If you assume a black market economy exists, (they do in game) and that some people perfer cash to cred, try using a credstick in Redmond or Pullyup, out side of the tourist areas, then cash plays a role. Not all countries have gone to an electronic currency but the UCAS has, to the point it is illegal. Any thing illigal must have a value right? So what would cash look like, a collection of corpoate scrips, national curriencies, bonds, gold or other precious metals and coupons given out by the UCAS government for sinnless people on the dole. Now keeping up with the relative values of each individual item can be a pain, but it sure adds to realism.

What's illegal, I dont think you are clear here. If you mean paper cash is illegal you are wrong, as both the UCAS and CAS both print paper cash still to this day, nuyen is just an alternative method of payment.

Just out of curiosity, would old Fuchi scrip be redeemable from its old susidiaries (say like Fairlight now under Novatech control)? Or are they worth about as much as post-civil war greenbacks?

Technically, only management has changed not the stock value in these companies, so I would think it possible.

An intresting question. My first instinct is to say no-Fuchi employees retained by Novatech would simply convert their old Fuchi Scrip into Novatech Scrip, for a nominal feee of course, and go from there.

However Novatech could, initially, offer to redeem Fuchi Scrip as a publicity gimmick.

Almost certainly worthless, or worth pennies on the dollar at the most.

Woohoo! One of the first threads I started on here...that really brings me back...

Even worse than corp scrip payments are corp stock payments. And shadowruns can have effects on even a megacorp's stock. Sure, it may only be momentarily, but you still can. Look at Brainscan's first run for an example of how a simple little run can affect a large corp or a megacorp. Remember, the stock market can fluctuate radically based on rumors. With even the sneakiest of shadowruns, someone's going to know what went down. And when Mr. J and all his friends start selling Ares stock short because of a run he has planned to steal their prototype, the market's going to notice and go insane selling because obviously someone knows something and they don't want to get stuck holding the bag.

The Abstruse One
