Resounding across the social networks, it appears someone found an old Shadowrun short film that FASA had made back in the day. Wonderfully cheesy and full of huge hair, it also has an appearance by Sally Tsung.

So, Jason, when is CGL going to work on it's video for Shadowrun? They made a video a few years ago that has brief clips representing a bunch of Catalyst games, including Shadowrun. Check it out! |

Well, not bad.
But no '80s hair. |

Wow. Only in the 90s could that have seemed like a good idea. And the cyberdeck; just... Amazing. XD

There were some actually cool Live Action role-PLaying Shadowrun videos that some people in france did. They beat the hell out of the 90's video, in quality of disguises, camera use, even acting.
Athough this wins by excessive use of nerdery. Beautiful. |

There were two (or even three?) short film contests by FanPro Germany some years ago. Some films were really nice.

One of my long-term goals is to go back to school for some writing and film making courses... Who knows?

At least none of those films became as bad as BALLISTICA!

That video was pretty rad. Tubular, even.
Although it kind of looks like the opening to shadowrun: the Porno |

Definitely sent this to my players as an example of how to play. No spell descriptions, you just look and it's done.

I found some of the old short films from FanPro's contest 2005/06 and 2006/07. (In German of course, but some have nice CGIs.) I think there was another contest in 2004/05, but I'm not sure. My personal favorite's Plan C. The team's planning several ways into the target and one keeps on saying "I'm just the driver." In the end you see him sitting in the car and hear gunfire in the background. (You see the team standing in front of a wire fence and lacking a wire cutter in the scene before.) He sighs, grabs a gun and rushes to the fight murmuring "Plan C again." (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rotfl.gif)

It'd be cool if they did these contests again, considering how much easier it is for the "at home" person to do video and special effects editing on their computer. We could get some really elaborate Shadowrun short films. |

We could get some really elaborate Shadowrun short films. Digital cameras with good quality have really come down in price. A good gaming rig can be used for CGI and give some pretty decent effects (Better than '80s and '90s B-Grade movies at the very least), if you can find someone that has the skills for the artwork/animation. Getting extras for an RPG Movie is as easy as hitting up your FLGS (Some come with their own costumes and realistic firearms!). This is one of the reasons that I want to get into Film Making, even if all I ever do is pull a few fan films and a few artistic numbers that are impossible to understand. (The second I'll do to screw with critic's heads.). |

I think this video's only slightly worse than, say, Johnny Mnemonic.
