Yeah, because that worked Oh So Well for Alt.War... Even after all the hate, and pledges that the community could do so much better, and on a decent time frame (that was deadlined months ago), it STILL has not flown all that much. So much for the "We can do better Attitude." There is good stuff in there to be sure, and Dumpshock has access to some very talented people. But I am just not seeing it. Wasn't here for that, I fear, and I'm, to this DAY, kicking myself for not being able to get with the Europe project which wound up being a huge success. (Long story short, lost my computer and access to everything for six months, came back too late. Arg!) But I'm always up for the writing challenge. |

I would LOVE a Shadows of Africa fan project. I might be able to help here and there.

We threw a lot of magic into the mix here. Using the stories of Anansi the Trickster Spider as one hell of a totem. Although he's a bug spirit he's not technically BAD.
The Congo basin has a tradition of Minkisi, sacred medicine prepared ritually, using sympathetic magic. With the sixth world, the awakened Ganga (healer) preparing them suddenly got powerful. Voudon has already been mentioned, don't forget the related Bokor, the necromancer. Have fun . . . (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rotate.gif) |

Uh, I somehow got the impression that Spider is not an Insect totem, but a thing apart from both Invae and non-insect totems?

The First Dawn of the Artifacts book gives some information on Lagos, a really screwed up nightmarish version of the previous city in various states of decay, run by ethnic bandit kings with technicals, thugs, and the local mojo backing them up. Add in toxic waste, disease, starvation, and every other trope out of bad hollywood movies. Then and magical problems, Mega Corp Chicanery, and the Human Trafficking to the ghul nation of Asmondo and you begin to scratch the surface of what the area is like.
And Lagos is one of the nicer cities... Africa gets no love in SR4 and makes the Redmond Barrens look downright civilized |

My Lagos has an interesting twist. People keep underestimating how freakishly powerful in magic the locals are. Mostly, because if you aren't /yay/ tall, you just don't live to be an independent adult in Lagos.

Quite right, I was being sloppy in terminology (IMG:style_emoticons/default/embarrassed.gif) Spiders are Arachnids, not Insects. That might be reason enough. Oooooooooooooooooooooo, Scorpion Shamans! With the Gaes of having to shout "GET OVER HERE!" when casting spells, perhaps? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/nyahnyah.gif) |

The tribes of Mojave have scorpion shamans, it's canon.
They're loners, and engage in ritual duels (and I'm afraid that's everything I know about them). |

Yes, yes it is.
Should be getting my copy of the 6th world almanac back from the friend I loaned it to today, so I can catch up on what all's actually published. Lots of nuggets, but, man it's a big place. |

Why would I meat a scorpion shaman? I'll assume you mean "Meet". (IMG:style_emoticons/default/nyahnyah.gif) Well, perhaps he knows info that you need. Or has the real name of a spirit you really want to get back at. Or he's dating your sister. |

You people walking upside-down and eating all kinds of weird things.
And no, CanRay, I was asking TheWanderingJewels why he suggested me to meat one. I'm still lost on that matter. |

Anansi and similar Native American bug totems could be really interesting to roleplay - "I'm a bug shaman, but I'm not crazy" Maybe turning into something similar to a Hare Krishna. Hands out pamphlets at airports on the values of merging, but is completely, 100% honest about exactly what'll happen to you and offers money in exchange for the process. Join the universal conscio- oh, bugger me. How did the Hare Krishna reference slip past me for so long? What did the writers have against the HK? |

Recommended Reading: "Barrocco Tropical", José Eduardo Agualusa. A novel about political intrigue in a cyberpunk-esque Angola in 2020. Would be a nice SR setting and something beside African Hellhole and African Warzone, which until now are the only available settings for Africa in SR. Also, introduces a couple nice ideas forgiving Africa abit more prominence in the Sixth World.

If you read French, I've written this small setting about Zouerate, Mauritania inspired by my own experiences in Mauritania and George Alec Effinger's Boudayin trilogy.
