QUOTE Kat O'Nine Tales, however, could have done a much better job, yes. Or Kay St. Irregular. Or Fianchhetto. Or Minoshi Oni (whose short story in Street Legends describes her as a fashion addict!). And if it's about dressing the part on the job no matter what, Thorne (it's what spies do), Hard Exit (the chameleon), Ma'Fan (another fashion victim), and Mika (wiz new stuff!). QUOTE I actually really enjoyed those kinds of conversations. Especially the one where Hestaby ACTUALLY said 'LOL', which I assume you're referencing there. Oh, they're fun enough, I liked them too, but there should have been a more WTF reaction from other posters. I mean, what would we do if a group of people (who really are Hillary Clinton, George W. Bush, Nicholas Sarcozy, Pope Benedict, Kim Jong Il, and Hu Jintao) would enjoy their in-jokes all over Dumpshock? Would maybe someone ask them to stop cluttering, lose their nerve, or just post "Oh, they're at it again"? I bet so.m Especially since we would not know who those posters are. I understand writing them is fun, I like reading this occasionally, but it got a bit out of hand at the end of SR3. All I'm saying. QUOTE Really, when the stats are detached from the descriptions given IC, and even some item names don't match between the stat blocks and the IC text, do you really have to complain about the presentation once more? Sure. Because format is more easily corrected than rewriting an entire section (copypaste the conspiracies into an X-Files chapter made up of conspiracy thjeories and extraplanar intelligence, for instance, takes mere seconds). QUOTE Oh and i love her line on page 120: "SmartFrames? SKs? Never mind. I don’t want to know." I can see this confused kid sitting next to a table, quickly glancing from one person to the next, and being utterly confused about the topic. Hell, i have real life experience of something similar when listening to my grandfathers generation talking about their daily life. It is a very good reminder of the generation gap that comes with rampant technological change. Yeah sure, but how exactly does that make her an expert on shadowrunner related technology? QUOTE It was in "Wolf and Raven". Kid Stealth handled the issue in the way he traditionally handled everything major: High Explosives. Ah, Stackpole's stories. So full of crazy. In "Ye Olde Dayes" there were many tales of spirit horses and such, so why not an "Iron Horse"? That is the one... Thanks. Now I am going to have to read that one again. QUOTE Don't forget that by '73 SKs are just so much irrelevant obsolescent drek, just like cyberdecks. I was referring to her being the voice to narrate the last two gear sections, not a comment on SKs (which, while a bit presumptive, wouldn't be that bad). |

Dunno. How many kids today don't know much about microcomputers of old, let alone mainframes and related specialist software, but can talk at length about the latest smartphones?

Pretty much all of them.
Now, of the kids let into closed top-tier professional discussion groups, the percentage of noting "I don't want to know" about anything in the profession must be quite low... |

Likely she said it partially to avoid being made fun off by Bull and Slamm-o, as well as not wanting to get a long history lecture.

Hell, how many kids won't believe you when you tell them remote controls didn't always come with TVs. And you used to have to manually change the channel every time.Often with a pair of vice grips when the knob broke off. *Sighs* Then they'll ask what a knob is. |

Show up with a camera and kids will think they can see the image right after it was taken. Photographic film is foreign to them.

Oh man, tell me about it. I went back to my High School before I left home, and all the old film was gone and digital cameras abounded.
No damned skill at all needed, just snap pics until you get a good one, none of this, "Got to save my shots for a good one!", and "F***! Lens cap.", or "Alright, who's the b**** that's getting curb stomped for turning the light on in the dark room?" ... I think I spent more time in the Vice Principal's Office than I did in class, come to think of it. If you remove development time. |

Hell, how many kids won't believe you when you tell them remote controls didn't always come with TVs. And you used to have to manually change the channel every time. You didn't have to do it manually. The youngest person present acted as the remote.Often with a pair of vice grips when the knob broke off. |

I am an only child. And that's why YOU had to do it manually (IMG:style_emoticons/default/nyahnyah.gif) Me? Only Child too, but also lazy as a cat. I just usually laid down in front of the TV and used my toes to work the knobs . . |

To try to get this back on track, I'm a little disappointed more of them didn't have martial arts, and none of them used it effectively. Serrin Shamandar has a couple of levels in Carromoleg (with the benefits improperly called maneuvers), Thorn has three random advantages with no source listed (and no maneuvers), and Miles Lanier has a nice bit of power gaming through some boxing advantages.
But that's it. No one uses maneuvers, the best of which are a hell of a lot better than the advantages, and some of the samurai types are missing some good character opportunities, like Sticks with Arnis de Mano and some weapon/disarm maneuvers that would fit the character's combat concept nicely. |
