I caught the episode when it aired. Good music, but bad aesop.
Bullies aren't just friends waiting to be shown a little affection. In this case, there was a slim chance it might have worked because one of her victims was kin (with an older sister quite capable of laying down the LAW,) and the clique she was with was new and their objective discrimination included her as well... But honestly? Most bullies are not like that. They've invested too much time and emotional energy into exercising their dominion over you to just give it up and be your friend. I can't imagine any of the bullies I knew when I was young being remotely grateful in the situation that Babs Seed was in, after the CMCs saved her. Frankly, I can only imagine them hospitalizing me again. Yes, again. A bully once hit me so hard he gave me a concussion and put me in the hospital. You know what happened to him? Jack shit, and that time my mom actually did file a police complaint - which I had to beg her to do. Did the jackass go up before a judge? Nope, a lawyer doing arbitration. What was his sentence? The lawyer ordered him to do what he was planning to do anyway, and join the Marine Corps when he graduated. It's a bad aesop. Bullies won't be mollified by trying to be nice to them. If anything, they'll just continue to exploit you, maybe even ratchet it up a notch by tossing a few scraps of acceptance your way then demanding more and more out of you. They should have told Applejack, or worse, Fluttershy. And lastly, just because someone has been victimized doesn't mean it's okay for them to victimize in turn, it doesn't mean it's understandable. They deserve to be come down upon hard - hell, harder, because they know what it was like to be victimized and chose to inflict that upon others! |
