(Because Seriously Mike gave me a Seriously Bad Idea.)

Life in this corporate world can be demanding. Your work hours preclude you from any kind of real socialising, and then when you do get out, all the people in the bar are the same boring chumps working in your company. The same people who never stop their flirting and charming in hopes of a promotion, a pay raise, a day off. The same managerial staff who think they know everything best while they don't know the first thing about your area of expertise.

It's enough to make you consider just dropping the pretense and not showing up for the saturday night after-work drinks at all anymore, isn't it? To just stay home in the company of... who? The gentle company of your VacuDrone Deluxe, happily scurrying along to keep your home meticulously clean, in case you ever bring a friend along? That sweet girl Cassandra from Snohomish Roses? She would be a treat to take home wouldn't she? You could even take her to the bar, and show her off to all those people caught in their drab lives. Her suntanned, freckled face cracking jokes at them, telling them how great it is to just jump into that creek and swim in the warm light of a sunday sunset. To lie on together on a rock, drying up in the last light of day. Cuddling up, and retiring to that charming little log cabin afterwards for an evening of shared comfort.

But you can't, can you? You can enjoy all these things with her, but you can't ever share it with them. Not unless they subscribe to your PAN first. She'll never step out of it and touch anyone without them wearing a set of trodes, and having someone who'll keep them from falling off of their barstool. Will she?

Well think again!

In an absolutely marvelous collaboration with Pathfinder Multimedia, we at Renraku bring you a completely new line of what we like to call 'the better side of company drones!' The Renraku Lifemate! These are the type of company that would rather ask for your life's story over a candlelit dinner, a long walk on the beach, a night in the casino, or a weekend climbing Mount Baker, to allow you into their hearts, than ask for your SIN to allow you into the CEO's office. They're fully animated, fully lifelike, with all the functionality you would expect from any of your friends, and probably in better shape too! And now, through our collaboration with Pathfinder Multimedia, they come with an assortment of custom cosmetic upgrades, and the personality software to perfectly resemble any of an assortment of over 100 both male and female trideo and simsense stars! Now you can talk to Cassandra all through the night, and show her off to your family, your co-workers, or just keep her to yourself as you always have!
As a little extra, if you're spending a working holiday away from your significant other, consider making one look and feel just like you to leave with her! Or just like her, to take with you! Even from across the Atlantic, you can stroke her hair, feel it running through your fingers, warm her up by just holding her against you and doing all those special things that have kept you warmed up to eachother through the years.

The upgraded model comes with even more increased functionality, and can easily be taken scuba diving, mountain climbing, and whatever other sporting events you'd want them to accompany you on. If you hobbies might put them at risk of suffering those little nicks and scrapes more often than not, for a little surcharge they'll recover all by themself without needing a visit to your local Renraku service department!

With models in all metahuman shapes and sizes, whoever you ever wanted to be near is available to you now, in the form of a Renraku Lifemate! Come by one of your local Renraku storefronts, or visit the node on your screen now to customise and order your own!

I'd love to see a pixie PC sneak into one of these things "reverse birth" style. At least, if that's what you meant by that modification.

Yep, My Cyberlogician used an Otomo for his girlfriend. Worked out great, complete with the Better than Life Virtual Persona that he programmed for her (based upon his real Girlfriend that was killed by the Corp). It was Awesome (Sucked) when she Emerged as a Metasapient AI. I really should have thought about all those combat mods I had built into the Chassis. Ever try to stop a Terminator when it does not want to be stopped. Yeah, I joined her in her quest for vengeance rather than try to stop her. Guess I programmed her TOO well. *shrug*

I could have called it Special Machinery, but this is so much more graphic. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wobble.gif)

That's a pretty awesome twist actually.
I was thinking about something along those lines. Have the virtual person on one of them Emerge and start all kinds of strange with the person (s)he resembles.

Actually, that's incredibad. I mean, it's so bad it's good.

That, and Drax solved the problem of stats for those custom drones. Instead of a supersized Bust-a-Move, a Manservant with reworked mobility system. Is fine too.

You know, with people freaking out over TMs and AIs, I don't know how well these things will sell...

By putting the sales power of Horizon behind them. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)
Also, some things, like longing for companionship in this bleak, desolate world, will overcome fear. That, and the big killswitch if you hit their special place the Manservant's original description mentioned.

Didn't you get the memo though? AIs are totally fine ever since that one stepped out and showed they're really nice. And Technomancer scare is so 2070!

Nicely done. Might have to NPC a really creepy antisocial guy with one of these as a Johnson. Yea...

On the bright side, more people are working again!

Bunraku Parlors are staffing illegal immigrants again instead of drones. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/nyahnyah.gif)

Hmmm, am I understanding correctly that anthroform drones with proper hands can use normal weapons? Because I got an idea for a drone dressed like a court jester, fitted with gecko tips, chameleon coating and satellite link... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Satellite link on a drone. Reminds me of the Gate guardian-bots from The Dark Tower. Or big old Shardik.

Slap a cybernetic brain, a sentient AI, or a possession based Free Spirit in there and you have yourself a character (IMG:style_emoticons/default/spin.gif)

(or, apparently, a drivers seat for a pixie)

Indeed... She started out as a Virtual Persona, who went every where with him in AR (he is wired for full AR Sensory). Eventually, he was able to call in a marker to obtain a custom Otomo. I reallly should not have put in all the Combat mods. Oh well, live and learn. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

TJ, you and I have a much different idea of "should not have." I mean, it's just like having your girlfriend back, except as a vengeful battle cyborg. Where do I sign up?

Not that the character would not hit that. And the character did, both in the AR Realms and Cyborg world. Heh... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
It is just that when the uber-badass, hot-looking Terminator, that makes even Arnold look like a wuss, decides to do something, and you cannot dissuade her, well, you have to play along. Not that the character did not agree with her, but the timing was problematic, to say the least. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

You have to love the side stories that the characters inflict upon themselves, without even thinking about it. This one was completely my own doing, and I never even saw it coming, even as I joked about it.

So, basically, it's like having your girlfriend back, except as a vengeful battle cyborg... complete with the times she's not being exactly reasonable, except she's still a vengeful battle cyborg.

Hmm...

I still say "yes, please."
