I missed this event, but I always wondered... Just what is the Kusanagi Protocol?
Gencon 2005 Corporate Ghost - "Within a megacorporation, there are only a chosen few entitled to know the majority of the secrets. Of those few, only one or two may know each and every one. Outsiders are forbidden to know of the Kusanagi Protocol, but for a team that has been loyal (and more importantly, efficient) there comes a time when circumstance can thrust them into greatest secret of them all." |

Interesting I've never heard of this. I know some people who i think went to Gen Con in 2005 I'll see if they were at this.

I was thinking it might be related to the legendary sword of Japan, but Ghost in the Shell is great, too!

Ha, and my first thought went straight to Kimiko Ross. I wonder why that is (prolly the Shirow influence).

I missed this event, but I always wondered... Just what is the Kusanagi Protocol? If you don't know what the Kusanagi Protocol is, maybe that indicates you are an Outsider to the megacorp? If not, have you been loyal (and more importantly, efficient)? Maybe there's a reason we don't know...(Also, FWIW in GitS it's Motoko Kusanagi.) |

Ah.... That's the problem, then...
I know OF Kusanagi Protocol. But not what it is. Clearly, I'm not an outsider. But also not an insider. You dig, Chummers? |

OK. No answers on What is the Kusanagi Protocol?
Clearly, I failed my legwork roll. I spend a point of edge to reroll failures. Now, anyone play in Gencon tourney 2005, and is willing to speak off the record about the Kusanagi Protocol for some nuyen? |

My thoughts at once went to GitS since they discover the secrets that the corps want burried.
As for 2005- to follow the above theory, anyone who knows, isn't going to tell. |

Tell you what, chummers. Let's see if we can't loosen those tight lips.
I'll place a 10,000 in-game SRM missions nuyen bounty for information about the Kusanagi Protocol. Payment goes to the first poster posting accurate details. You know you want the cash. Here's your chance to reap the benefits of overdeveloped curiosity. |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/nuyen.gif) 10k? did it occur to you that osmeone as powerful as we predicating would consider that chump change to pay out to keep it quiet? And the best way to keep it quiet is to look for the person offering the reward.

It might be referring to the legendary Japanese sword, one of three Imperial Regalia of Japan. Yeah, the name shows up in Ghost in the Shell, as well as anime such as Blue Seed and games such as King of Fighters. But I think it is likelier that this protocol would be referencing the original legend, rather than one of its occurrences in pop culture.

Gencon 2005 Corporate Ghost - "Within a megacorporation, there are only a chosen few entitled to know the majority of the secrets. Of those few, only one or two may know each and every one. Outsiders are forbidden to know of the Kusanagi Protocol, but for a team that has been loyal (and more importantly, efficient) there comes a time when circumstance can thrust them into greatest secret of them all." As an OLD hand who Gm'd that tourny for FanPro allow me to blow your mind. Also I believe that was the year I spent 12 hours Gming 2 rounds... not cool when its supposed to be 8. I missed going clubbing that night cause of my team... Big News From Novatech Tell it to them straight: Richard Villiers stirs a bit and groggily sits up. Slowly rubbing his chest, he looks at Ketterling and smiles saying, “I owe you another one. Thanks Doc. You mind giving me some time alone with these gentlement?” Ketterling smiles back at Richard and leaves the room. Once the door shuts the smile fades from Villiers face and is replaced with a mask of rage. “How long have I been out?” Several hours have passed since he dropped from the heart attack. Upon hearing the news, his mood will darken and he will say, “That’s not good. Damn heart… Brian’s had all the time he needed. So what was your role in this?” Should the team tell him about the job they pulled on AA CORP he will sigh and nod his head. “Right, I should have guessed. There’s a TV over in the corner… turn it on and search for the business channel.” On the channel is a press conference in process with scrolling text on the bottom that reads, “Novatech Founder an CEO Richard Villiers names successor. Cites health concerns.” Richard Villiers is on the screen addressing the media. “Yes, as of 9am this morning I have signed the papers and received the board’s permission to make Brian Jenkins the CEO when I resign or am unable to continue my duties. These last few years have been incredibly stressful and though the mind is willing, it seems my body is lagging a bit behind. I’m told I have many years left but just in case I want to be sure my company is in good hands. Now I am sure you have many questions for Brian so I will step aside and let him take over.” A smattering of applause as Richard steps aside and Brian Jenkins steps up to the podium. “Thank you Richard. I cannot tell you all how happy I am to know that Richard trusts me this much. Novatech remains one of the top companies in the world and I am determined to make us number one. Any questions?” Villiers will turn off the television and look at the players. “THAT, is the Kusanagi Protocol. My own idea used against me. After what happened to Fuchi, I was not about to let something similar happen to my firm. If I died, there would have been chaos so I created the Kusanagi Program. Ten clones were made of my body and kept in pseudo-stasis where the bodies would age accordingly and their brains were linked into a neuro-memory system. Every few days I download a copy of my mind and have my Alpha Team update each of the ten clones. They were being kept in the offices of our sub-companies… the one’s that were hit over the last few days. All the clones were destroyed in the chaos. Guess Brian managed to have one stolen and is using it as me. To his credit, he’s pulled it off beautifully but there is still one option left. You are taking me to Boston. There is a facility on the north side where I can get the information needed to rectify the problem.” Hows THAT for awesome. |

While we're here, there was a note in ... shoot ... Augmentation? Supposedly, Villers or Damien Knight one was having a bad reaction to Leonization treatments. I never found teh place that it was discussed, nor exactly what was up with it.
Of course, we have a few elderly types that have been recently youthinized (hah! My joke is ... what? Futurama already... D'oh!) or otherwise changed that shoul dprove interesting. One of the Shiawase clan, I do believe, had sixty years removed (which is an issue with his young wife), and ... wasn't there a second who either got young and changed genders or had has grand-neice captured and took over her body, one or the other? Too early. My brain's not fully engaged yet. |

It's cool to know there's a save & reload precedent in canon, even if its availability is off the charts. It reminds me of The Sixth Day.
