I once played an artificer character in The Game Which Shall Not Be Named, and he had a lot of fun crafting big stompy golems to ruin peoples' collective day with. Are there rules for this kind of thing in Shadowrun? I know the easiest way would just be to have a powerful spirit possess a suit of milspec armor or something similar, but I'm wondering about actually building a body specifically for a possession spirit to inhabit. Obviously not a tactic for every run, but a good backup plan for a mage who finds himself up shit creek without a paddle. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/spin.gif)

Street Magic has a number of rules for spirit possession traditions, and it's got a section for building various special bodies ranging from wicker men, stone golems, and plaststeel ball-socket jointed dolls.

There's also the Inhabitation Power for ally and familiar spirits in SR3 and SR4/A. That's quite different to possession but it installs an animating force (a spirit) inside a crafted golem (homunculus focus) to create the effect you're talking about.
It is still barred from crossing wards (which are ubiquitous) and is vulnerable to anything capable of ranged combat on the astral plane (just like shapeshifters or ghouls are). But it's a good karma-sink and character-flaw for boosting role-play. |

Rifts right? If you name it, it's clearly not That Which Shall Not Be Named (IMG:style_emoticons/default/nyahnyah.gif) |

In Shadowrun, I think you could consider a full-body cyborg as another kind of Golem.
So depending on whether or not you want to go for a magical golem or a technology golem, rules for either one are in Street Magic or Augmentation. I've used Golems before, they're very fun. They only show up when the players are fighting REALLY screwed up Shamans. Most spirits don't appreciate being bound into objects unwillingly. |

In Shadowrun, I think you could consider a full-body cyborg as another kind of Golem. I disagree. A character who has all limbs replaced by cyberware is not similar to a golem nor is a jarhead. Both lack a key part. They are not controlled by another human being. The closest you get to a golem with technology is a sprite or AI controlling a drone. Humanoid drones are in Arsenal. What's the big advantage of a spirit possessing some object opposed to a high force spirit? You get a bit higher stats but a possessing spirit cannot bypass wards without leaving its body behind. If you use possession, offensive possession or possession of the summoner is the better option. |

When he said the one that shall not be named, I wondered if we were talking about Spawn of Fashan.

The whole Qabbalah tradition is about creating golems in the original sense, and IIRC there's rules in there for various possession spirit bodies, from the prefab I, Robot looking ones to wicker men. |
