QUOTE (Dakka Dakka @ Dec 28 2011, 03:14 AM) *
While materialized spirits may or may not have eyes, the clearly must have some organ/device to process visual auditory etc. stimuli. Contrary to astrally perceiving metahumans, dual-natured being actually perceive both planes at the same time as of SR4A.
Still by RAW spirits selectively block out photons that have been emitted by a tv spreen (IMG:style_emoticons/default/silly.gif) . I agree with Yerameyahu, that something like this should be houseruled.

One thing I would like to point out before I go to work:
That ruling is a Free Spirit Player CCharacter thing ONLY.

Things were kosher with regular spirits before one of the devs started freaking out about OH GOD ASTRAL HACKERS.

I don't understand why, either. Spirits and Free Spirits in general don't seem like they'd be any good at it. They'd have to be AR-only, and they can't use most of the standard boosts (cyber- and/or simsense-based), and they're not even Adepts. And, given what spirits/Free Spirits are good at, it'd be a total waste of IPs. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

How does various fiction address this? Like Burning Bright? Doesn't the main character have an Ally Spirit? I can't recall it ever mentioning how the spirit perceives. Can you?

@Paul
Sometimes only their astral perception is described. But sometimes to accomplish task for which they would need normal vision.

Pick up the diamonds out of the coal, would already be impossible.

I do not even think it was about that. I think they wanted to make spirits special cakes without thinking about what they write will actually mean.
Magic can handwave a lot, true. but still what is left should be consistant. (What happens if I take a mirror and look at the image of the screen in the mirror? Can a spirit see the reflection?)

Perhaps the idea is just to separate Spirits and AIs as much as possible.

Slightly off topic, but this is the internets, deal with it: Did anypony ever crunch up any custom house rules for PC free sprites?

three out of four of my SR players are MLP watchers. It's kinda scary, to be honest. (and one of them characterizes her PC as, quote, "like Fluttershy, if Fluttershy was a death machine." Have no idea what that means, but it's been entertaining to watch)

Off Topic: 4 of my 5 players watch MLP, so there you go. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)
On Topic: Yeah, the entire 'can't see a TV screen' annoys me to all hell. My response is to ignore it. Same with AR. Yes, this means a free spirit could, in theory, learn to hack. Whoop-de-friggin-do. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Though, on another topic. A PC free spirit has to buy up skills, and I believe... cap at 6? I presume a Force 7 normal non-PC spirit doesn't have this problem, and has a bunch of skills at 7?

Correct.

NPC Free spirits are basically better in every way. Whether its getting a guaranteed set of skills at Force, or not having to deal with Power Points.

Hell, basic spirits are too in some/most ways.

If there is a clause somewhere that says PC free spirits do get the usual spirit skills at Force, that would go a long way to explaining why they are so expensive.

Fluttershy is basically like a little butterfly and terribly shy.
Untill she gets so annoyed that she straight up flies into the face of a dragon that makes lofwyr look small and tells him to shut up and take a hike. And the dragon fears her enough to comply.

@Xahn:
Pony up and create some of those rules and show them to dumpshock.
We will love and tolerate the shit out of those rules.

Id' probably start with the PC free spirit rules and bend them around untill they fit the Sprites.

But with PC AI Rules, why would you want a Sprite? O.o

Because PC AIs cannot learn Echos and have no way of aquiring more IPs, whereas a starting hacker can have 5 IPs (with restricted gear).
