Since most GM's looking for players open a recruitment threat, I figured I would post this up to allow players without a GM some place to post in. If you're looking for a game post here. Adding details like posting restrictions (daily/weekly/etc) and anything about the type of game (sr3/s4, Black Hat/Pink Mohawk/Any) would also help. Please post your characters in the Cast of Shadows Topic.

Cool Idea.
Yeah, looking for a game, I'd prefer something more active during the weekdays, It'd give me something to do while at work. SR4. I'd like to try out an Occult Investigator I've been tinkering with, but could play a matrix specialist if pushed. I tend to prefer Black Hat. |

I know this is a total newbie questions, so please bare with me. Where would be a good place to find out exactly pbp works, particularly on this site? I'm interested, but want to know more about it before I become involved. In the shadows you can never be too cautious...

A play by post game is one where the story is carried on by the payers and GM's posting in the game play for both In Character (IC) and Out of Character (OOC) actions and conversations. Rules for game play and style vary by GM.
Generally each game has an OOC thread for player conversations, dice roles, etc. and an IC thread for character actions and conversations. The first OOC post usually contains the rules for the game. For example, * HERE * is the opening of my Puyallup series of games. If any optional rules are used they are generally noted there as well. * HERE * is the IC thread for the OOC thread referenced above. Several site specific traditions have evolved: 1) All names are bolded so they are easily recognized as names. 2) Some games have the Date/Time/Location for the character are posted at top of each post. 3) Signatures are turned off for IC/OOC posts. 4) In some games, comlink details are posted on the second line of the post. 5) In most games, a posting color scheme is adhered to for easy differentiation of thoughts vs. spoken vs comlink communication. (see my signature or the OOC first post) EDIT: For my Puyallups game, we are on the 4th team (the series is over 5 years old). I also created a Game Reference topic to describe places, people, etc. During Recruitment drives for new players (pbp games are usually notorious for turn over) a Recruitment thread (Like the Puyallups recruitment thread) is generally used to keep the OOC cleaner for game play. |

Generally games that start with an expectation of 1+ posts/day burn out quickly. Posts with rates of less than 1/week die on the vine. 1-2 posts per week is generally a formula that works. (Some of my players have been posting consistently for 5+ years.) The key is to set a schedule of when to check into the game to post of 1-3 days per week.

Alright, school is finally done and I'll have time either after work or during my commute so I'd be interested in a pbp game. I've got two characters ready using standard 400BP rules, and concepts for others rattling around in my brain.
Viper is a dual wielding pistol adept, little bit pink mohawk, but not a lot. Flashy and has a tendency (distinctive style) to leave a bullet in the hand of any opponent he considered to be particularly skilled and/or honorable. Stormcrow is a crow shifter (eagle shifter stats) shaman with a small but effective (I hope) spell list. He is fairly focused on the mission, but is occasionally distracted by a compulsion to acquire "shiny things". Stormcrow is a more black hat type character. I also have concepts for a really pink mohawk street sam and a very black hat mystic adept stealth expert I can post probably 3 times a week, give or take. This will be my first pbp game, so hopefully I'm right about how it will work out. |

Thanks, Redjack. That was a great explanation and a hell of a lot more than I was expecting. Might I add that your Puyallup game is superbly organized. I may have drooled a little. I thought the Google map was a nice touch.
After that wonderful introduction, I would definitely be interested in joining a pbp game when ever one opens up. I just finished school as well and would be able to comfortably commit to a game that posts 2-3 times/week. i don't currently have any characters built, but I will shortly, as any excuse will do ya know. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) EDIT: I should add that, while 4A is my preferred rules-set, I will gladly play in any era. Nor do I have a preferred playstyle or regional setting. Looking for a SR4A PbP Game. Looking for a slow pace game with lots of detail without the players needing to assume actions on the part of NPC's or Other players. I would like to start with a newly forming group, with the players starting fresh naive runners just meeting each other and their Fixer. City setting doesn't matter. I would like to see all of the aspects of the characters explored Magic, Matrix, Contacts, Lifestyle(s), Some of their Life outside of the Runs (possibly in personal threads?). And of Course I want to go on Runs with my Team mates!
I would like to see a good portion of the entire system used. If something is to be left out or not used Just a breif explanation of why. I would prefer a group discussion of options used and why/why not before game play begins. I would like to play with 3 to 4 other players and a GM. With well worked out characters. With a GM pointing out at character creation things like your street Sam has all this cyberware but does not have a street doc or corprate contact to help him maintain it. Nor does anyone in your group have the skills to handle that. With a group built to support each other. For the above mentioned reasons I have not pregenerated characters. Thanks for your time. |

Since I'm not having any luck finding some new RL players, I'd like to toss my hat into the ring for a PbP game. I'm a total newbie to PbP, so some hand-holding may be needed, but I'm old hat for Shadowrun (I still fondly remember the day my gaming mentor brought home a softcover copy of the first edition rulebook). Just shoot me a message if you have a slot available and point me towards any useful links to help bring me up to speed and let me know what sort of style I should be brainstorming a character for. I figure I can easily check in a few times a week.

I'd love to get involved in a PbP game, as I'm involved in one currently which has stalled a bit due to circumstances beyond our control. Don't suppose anyone is recruiting for one anytime soon? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

New to the site, and to 4E (but not to SR itself), and I'm looking to join a game. I'm up for playing anything because, as we all know, the only way to learn the rules is to just sift through them during character creation. What I'm looking for in a game:
1. 4E preferred, as that is the most current ruleset, but I will go back to my roots and dive into 2 and/or 3E. 2. Posting rate of no less than 1-2 times per week, although I tend to post ALOT. 3. Any type of GM, from the weird to the wacky to the down and dirty. 4. No preference on skill set of GM, as everybody has to learn some time. So if the GM is a noob or a vet - doesn't matter to me. I won't build a character unless I've got a game for him to go in to, but if any GM's want to see some example characters I've got 2 that I'm using right now in other games that I can forward to you and you can take a look at them. |

Sadly my gaming group in the last year has slowly started to move away from the table, even though they say they still want to play they dont seem to make the same effort to make time for a game anymore so I'm forced to look for alternative means and decided to give pbp a shot.
I'm familiar with SR4 rules, but dont have everything memorized (eidetic memory was not one of my positive qualities (IMG:style_emoticons/default/frown.gif) ), so I might be a bit off on somethings until I can check my books. I have the Core Rulebooks, and with my newfound job am making headway into picking up everything else. I'm more of a Role Player than a Roll Player, and can play almost any variety of archtypes/characters. Any type of game and/or GM will do, I've had experience with all types, and I have an amazing amout of patience something I see a lot of people lacking these days so I can deal with long times between posts though I'd prefer to play with people who like to post often as I've heard a lot of pbp games die off because time between posts becomes too long. If you have any questions please feel free to send me a PM. |

Has anyone been considering running a pbp campaign using the SR2050 supplement? If so, I'd be quite interested. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cyber.gif)

I'm jonesing for some Shadowrun, so I'm not very picky. I'd prefer SR4, but I'd be willing to use an older edition. I don't have any serious restrictions on when I can post. And I'm willing to join an existing game or a new one.

Looking for a game
Rules: sr4 preferably, all books RAW - I would love 2050 Interests: I play matrix specialists (decker, AI, technomancer, hacker - in that order) I can post almost any time, most reliably after 8 EST but most other times too. I can manage 2-3 minimum posts / week. |

Looking for a Game, havent done PbP before though. have a few char sheets and concepts a few are more fleshed out then others. would like a decent bit of detail. SR4 rules and would prefer allowance for arsenal if nothing else. Dont particularly want a game where you have to count every single bit of your ammo before a run, but I would like some micro stuff. ( have a combat hacker, a full combat troll, face mage, and a adept fairly ready to go with a story and stuff)

Looking to get into a PbP game, done extensive messageboard RPing since my teenage years, but not alot where it's also following rolls and rules and such. Very interested in getting into a game for shadowrun, only recently started playing it with my real life friends on pen and paper and want to augment our weekly sessions with online play. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
I have two characters presently created, a support/summoner mage(who is an excommunicated catholic priest) and a cov ops/B&E type character who's all about the sneakyness. Would love to use either. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |
