Another reason, guns modded out reflect a personal investment by the character into a piece of equipment. To me this makes it perfectly legal to use it to create a link through ritual spell casting if such a weapon is recovered, found, stolen, etc.

Reminds me of Vladimir Taltoss.

The tricky thing is also that the Arsenal list in a table the material cost of the mods and specificate the cost of manufacturing and the necessary schematics are to be added but aren't specified... A lot of people took thoses prices as the market price of the mods.

Remember that a lot of the gear in the book is not necessarily always for player characters, but for opposition. Corp security guards prefer SMGs because they are cheap, easy to carry, use the same ammo as side arms, and don't usually over penetrate. These are all issues runners don't usually care about, as they'll usually just opt for the assault rifle or mod a pistol to do what they want. Most corps don't mod their goons weapons, and every gun, vehicle, and piece of armor has someone in the game world who will use it, even if they are not a runner.

QUOTE (IKerensky @ Jun 5 2012, 05:02 PM) *
I was skimming through the arsenal table and some of the new expansions that keep adding and adding more modifications to weapons, then I see the new gun havens books and I wonder... "who care ?".

It seems that no player would use a gun like it was sold but just as a way to provide a basic price and damage.

I am not opposed to classicals mods : silencer, laser, interface, ammo type and such.

But when you can nilly-willy adjust ammo capacity, rate of fire, type of fire, underbarrel additinal guns and such... I think we have long departed from the modding area and are in the "build your own" weapon.

Who would use a SS pistol when you can change it to a BF or even FA with massive recoil reduction ? what is the point of the Ingram and all its expansion when basically every other gun you encounter is modded to the top ? Why are the NPCs on official books never having any mods on their weaponnary while every character on forum, even begineer one got massively customised guns ?

Looks to me like things have gone out of hand.

I think someone totally missed the limits on modding(ie. that guns only have 6 mod slots) as you can't actually do that much modding on the guns, witch is where selecting right base gun for what you want to accomplish comes in.

Yup.

See it as a sort of test run: if the option is used with common sense and without turning dumpshock.com into a second 4chan, everything is fine. If not, it's going to be disabled.

Well, we do have our own option in Board Settings, so it's okay from the viewer's side. But yeah, not having the option discourages it on the poster's side. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I used the SR3 weapon mod rules for the first time in YEARS and realized you could do som sick stuff. Well, unless the the gear fit the image.

In this case we have a LARGE troll with a bonus to body as well (I think we got a body rating of 14 or so). He's about 3,2 meters tall and can benchpress a small volkswagon. heavy pistols in his hands looks like the noisy cricket from MIB with a lot less OOMPH.

So we took a shotgun, gave it Bullpup, Clip, Short Barrel for start and payed the cost for having the stock removed. Now we have a shotgun heavy pistol built for trolls.

On a troll it would have the concealability as normal but only half if a regular joe used it. It starts with 2 points of recoil (base TN+2 to hit) and needs the strength of an orc or troll to mitigate the recoil.

This is what I based it on.
http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcS...oCgxRCLGKf_k8VP

Now, imagine that the shells in that clip is 12g shotgun shells...Its not a small gun but has the range of a heavy pistol but shotgun damage.

So, what balances it? Well, it cost me 6200Y as compared to a gun with a laser sight at under 500Y. Unbalanced? no, very much a signature gun, yes.

Meh, cybernetic breast implants and twin cybergun light pistols in the nipples. You get a -2D6 to hit but you get a surprise attack on the enemy as you rip your shirt open yelling 'SURPRISE'. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wobble.gif)

To be fair, Shadowrun has always been like shopping for guys, who are, as a general rule, far more interested in shopping for fictional guns and super powers than they are in shopping for mundane things like food or clothes.

I fancy myself a major exception to the general rule.

Hmmm...
A-Cup 1 point of recoil compensation
B-Cup 2 point of recoil compensation
C-Cup 3 point of recoil compensation
D-Cup 4 point of recoil compensation

DD's gives +1 to concealability of exposed cyberweapons.

One hopes the "guns" in question are attached to the appropriate gender.

Although a SR version of The Russian, from the Punisher comics, would certainly surprise many folks in-game. The post-augmentation version, of course.
