I see nothing new here. There've been references farther into the future than 2012 before.
QUOTE ('Wikipedia') Maya inscriptions occasionally reference future predicted events or commemorations that would occur on dates that lie beyond 2012 (that is, beyond the completion of the 13th b'ak'tun of the current era). Most of these are in the form of "distance dates" where some Long Count date is given, together with a Distance Number that is to be added to the Long Count date to arrive at this future date.
For example, on the west panel at the Temple of Inscriptions in Palenque, a section of the text projects into the future to the 80th Calendar Round (CR) 'anniversary' of the famous Palenque ruler K'inich Janaab' Pakal's accession to the throne. It does this by commencing with Pakal's birthdate 9.8.9.13.0 8 Ajaw 13 Pop (24 March 603 CE Gregorian) and adding to it the Distance Number 10.11.10.5.8. This calculation arrives at the 80th Calendar Round since his accession, a day that also has a CR date of 5 Lamat 1 Mol, but which lies over 4,000 years in the future from Pakal's time—the day 21 October in the year 4772. |

Well, another way to look at it would be that even if it were the end of the world (which i dont believe) it could simply mean the end of the world as we know it. (crash anyone? awakening? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) )

It's when the NSAN (Native South American Nations) is formed and takes over most of South America.

hey, it's not like it's 2013 yet. I don't believe in this particular end-of-the-world, but who knows? There is still time.

I honestly don't think anyone who frequents gaming or other similarly nerdy/geeky forums is the type to believe that the world is ending in 2012.
It's mostly folks who HAVEN'T done the research that fall for this kinda stuff. Which tends not to be the nerds. -k |

Actually I believe that the prediction from the Mayan people was that the Maker Gods would return in 2012. I could be wrong of course. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Just give them some tea. Or coffee or booze as their desires dictate. They'll just get all cute and fluffy then. Or possibly drunk and unable to move. (I've also seen a Work In Progress image of that same utah getting all quiver-lipped over a doe, it's so adorable) |

Plus honestly, even if some catastrophic event occured... either, life ends, or life moves on. Period. I'm sure we will all get over it, or we won't.

This post makes more sense in the context of a discussion on G+ right now (that I was reading just prior) than it does here. Weird. |

I was mostly being sarcastic... the point is that:
A: Shit gets so hard that everything dies or life gets exceptionally set back (only the roaches live for example) or B: Shit sucks and we move on... wouldn't be the first time |

It's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) In the 6th age CanRay is "forced" to play shadowrun 7 days a week and the GM provides the dark and stormies. |
