After re-reading Paradise Lost lately, I've noticed (of course, the book is way older than the Missouri lying in Pearl Harbour) that the USS Missouri isn't mentioned.
As I really like the idea of doing an adventure related to this venerable battleship, I've thought about what might have happened to it.
Basically, I have two possible scenarios:

1.) It's still lying in Pearl Harbour, a prize of the conflict where the Kingdom of Hawai'i gained 'independence' from the UCAS.
2.) It was towed back to the Puget Sound, where it lay earlier, given back after diplomatic negotiations.

What do you think?
Any other possible scenarios where it wasn't destroyed? Stolen by Japan, maybe? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
Also, does anyone know if canon material exists anywhere?

I'd say there are numerous Shadowruns dealing with the USS Missouri and either trying to get it back to the UCAS or keeping it in Pearl Harbor. With some groups attempting to get it for other nefarious deeds.

EDIT: I could also see it as a really strange place to work magic... Which opens up even more interesting ideas.

Be one heck of a background count on it, that's for sure.

Does "Resource Rush" ring any bells? The government signed over any available resource to the corps, with little thought given to conversation or sentimental value (or human rights). A huge lump of pre-nuclear age steel surely was a choice target during those days...

You just gave me an idea for a 'run: A bunch of Old Sailors catch wind of a corp getting around to 'harvesting' the USS Missouri, and scrape together enough to pay for a team of Shadowrunners to put a stop to it.

You can't really steal a battleship...

Thats one of those scenarios where you stop the bad guy, go home the bad guy shakes his head and does it anyway....

Unless stopping involves holding off the corp long enough for a media campaign to do its job.

"The bill for preserving the ship goes up for vote on the 30th. Today is the 23rd. Don't let 'em take the ship, and don't look bad doing it." In addition to cred, with a chunk up front, the Old Sailors will gladly donate ammo and a few weapons to the cause.

Mission success: ship intact at (time) on the 30th, no atrocities (as determined by GM) performed by the PCs in the process. That anyone else knows about, anyway.
Partial success: Ship damaged, or is in the process of being towed back to harbor. Running battle at time of passage of the bill.
Mission failure: Ship sunk, PCs get caught doing something that ruins the reputation of the ship in its defense, ship taken over by the corp.

So...
Steal an oil tanker and refuel the Missouri?
Get 50+ shadowrunners to get the ship underway? I'm going really low on number of ppl needed to get underway. IRL would probably be closer 350 ppl needed not counting the Tugs.

Who said anything about free or independent? People are buying votes and stories on both sides of the issue. The 'runners are to prevent an end-run around the politics. The pro-historical-preservation media is bought and paid for too.

Perhaps there's something deeper in there, too-- the price of the ship not being carved up, is somebody with deep pockets wanting to have it for their collection of Expensive Things. Or a corp bigwig read Snow Crash and decided to have a warship for a 'yacht', restored with historical accuracy. Or perhaps not.

Could be Corp B wants to keep it out of Corp A's hands-- and a bean-counter ran the numbers and figured that it would be cheaper to pay some Shadowrunners, than the fuel required to tow it over a deep trench and scuttle.

Why do you think that, Bigity?

Big battle, lots of sudden death, rage, hate, sadness, pain, etc. People drowning with the ship going down beating on the hull while people tried to cut the hull so they could get out, lots of visitors of survivors, non-survivors family members, prayers, ceremonies, etc.

Hu? The Missouri was never sunk or even damaged a lot. Do you mean one of the battleships sunk at Pearl Harbor? The Arizona perhaps?

Hahahaha yes, I'm dumb. I looked at 'Missouri' every time I looked at the thread, and still kept right on thinking about Pearl Harbor.

The real question is, why would you want too. They are obsolete in our time, much less 2072.

OK, that would work...I just don't think the idea of some patriotic letter-writing campaign swaying the lawmakers' opinion fits well into a cyberpunk universe.
