So I and some other dumpshockers got to hear Jordan talk about Shadowrun Returns at PAX. Its based around 2e with bits from 1e or 3e thrown in if appropriate. Isometric view with 3d actors and 2d backgrounds. I think he said its set in 2054, but hopefully someone else can back me up on it. No Karma Pool its been thrown out. Riggers are all drone riggers currently and mages cast spells while shamans summon spirits (at leased for now). You wont see any 4e stuff in this game, if thats what your looking for check out Shadowrun Online. The design team and producers are all old school names be it people who playtested for Tom Dowd or Jordan himself, etc. There will be lots of community tools for people to make their own adventures, no exploration just site/map based play. There is turned based combat and real time legwork, you can hire your friends characters and if they die in your game they die in your world but not your friends. No "Jakes" ie rule breaking npcs/pcs. Did I miss anything?

If my Coyote shaman can't summon all kinds of spirits between the tossing of Chaos spells, then I lose a great deal of my desire to play.

Yeah, the mission designer, how user friendly will it be?

And can you use it to build maps for the tabletop RPG?

I'm going to make a run where the objective is to prevent CanRay from participating as a player in a SR game.

Wouldn't be difficult, I'd be 73/74-years old at the time.

Just steal my cane, I already have to use one on occasion.

You know you're going to wind up crashing in FJ's doss, bitching about punks and kids who won't get off your lawn, trying to convince FastJack to run a game, but he's always too busy decking.

Like he'd want to hang around an old fogie like me. I mean, I was born before the Internet was available to everyone!

It is in the nature of old men to sit and talk with other old men, and once you get past fifty or so, the differences in age become largely one of "Hey, do you remember when?" "No, I was four. Shaddup."

Oh, Crap.

I considered inviting you to my Sunday IRC game, but my players told me not to because there was some sort of Lovecraftian constriction on the universe that stated that Bad Things would Happen if you ever played a game of Shadowrun.

If anybody needs me, I'll be busy digging a Horror bunker.

I'm also running a game on Sunday. Either Airship Pirates or Deadlands: Hell On Earth depending on the group's interests that night.

Very excited for this.

The character models look a little... World of Warcraft-y.

I'm not so convinced it's a terrible thing, but it's not what I was expecting, to be honest.

Here's a question for them: How moddable will the game be? Will it be relatively easy for players to install a grittier character model pack?

I'm hoping to add a few items, I've already blackmailed one of my players into making something for me.

I like the slums look of some of the city images, assuming those are Barrens areas and not like downtown Seattle, heh.

Blackmail?

Oooooooh, there's a story behind that, I just know it. There always is. You have the best stories. And, like all blackmail, I imagine it doesn't work right unless you keep that story to yourself. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/frown.gif)

PM me. I can keep a secret.

Oh, agreed. The only time I've seen better backgrounds for a 3/4th top view 2d with 3d models was the Temple of Elemental Evil game. That game was fucking incredible, it's a pity it was rushed out the door before it was ready.

And those backgrounds were all matte paintings!
