Old one had a Marauder on the cover. New one has an atlas. They are different.

Tanegar: I'm with you... I wanted to see them focus on a top flight 3025 game, then expand from there instead we have a half-assed 3040's game... with tons of balance issues and only a single play mode.

Bwahahaha... this has nothing on an old school flame war. This is a civil disagreement which I think is merely Pax having mistaken memory and insisting on things which aren't.

And TR;3025 had no rules in it, it was purely a source book for mechs... even worse it didn't include the mech sheets... those were a separate product at the time. So the information in the TR book wasn't sufficient to know the actual layout of the crits and you could only roughly fill in a sheet blank from the info published. So those books were largely fluff.

TR:2750 was the first TR published which had extra rules in it for lostech.
TR:3050 again introduced clans and clantech
There's a minor publication from way back then which had the first 'experimental' toys which was 'Unbound' it didn't cover quads. It was a rpg adventure focused on solaris VII and had some new tech toys in it.
Tactical Handbook was the next... again I covered it's rules for quads and quad turrets which are directly at odds with Pax's claims
Mechwarrior Companion was for the RPG but had a lot of cool gear for the tabletop... like dual cockpits. Again no coverage of quads
Maximum Tech was published with the next rules outbreak. But didn't include anything extra for quads that I can recall. It also compiled the new toys published in various house specific field manuals (like MRM's IIR
After that we hit the total war era which is the current rules set where I believe they have been added... and a lot of the oddball TR's they put out now have had some of them.

Possibly. The old books could be weird. The Grand Crusader mech had fluff that the two smokestacks were twin LRM-20s that were rear facing by record sheet yet fired '360' fluff. That sheet got changed to forward facing in later printings. I could imagine fluff relating to the Goliath leading Pax to imagine up some rules on quad turrets.

Punctuation hurts.

3025 was the first TRO.
3026 was the first TRO with extra rules in it, had lostech, and had rules in it for lostech.

Because of the Marauder/Atlas Cover thing, i just checked . . and why the HELL has nobody done the logical thing and outfitted an Atlas back then with 2xPPC, 2xMedium Laser and 1xAC5 damn it?
The Marauders of the Time did not have the Heatsinks OR the Armor to do that kind of Armament justice . . The Atlas would have been the perfect choice for that damn it!
Or an Atlas with the Warhammer Armament . . That one would, on an Alpha, probably over heat like a bitch again, but it would certainly do better with that Arsenal than the Warhammer of that time <.<

OK, no, it does NOT over-heat all that much, only 1 point over heat with the warhammer armament and 3 over heat with the marauder armament . .
These are cheapish bodge jobs that are freaking efficient machines!

Almost Normal. I just looked at the books...

No 3026 didn't have any new rules. 3026 was the vehicle TR, just checked it had extra equipment in it but that equipment was only for the ancient Mechwarrior RPG so can be ignored for our purposes and didn't pertain to heavy grade.

3025 was the first one... it used the basic rules and it was mech and ASF's only. 3026 was vehicles. TR:2750 introduced the star league and star league lostech. 2750 had a mishmash of everything mechs, tanks, ASFs and new toys at mech and RPG scale.

BattleTech is fucking awesome. If you lived in east Tennessee, I would be absolutely delighted to introduce it to you. It's not even particularly complicated, ridiculous arguments over turrets notwithstanding.

Actually, you know what? You and I should play a MegaMek game. It's zero-investment, the program spells out all the dice rolls and so forth, it's a great learning tool.

Anywhere near Knoxville? Mom's out there, I'm usually in town twice a year. The one mall thats in town had a wall full of B-tech minis. I was in heaven.

In Knoxville, in fact. I know the store you're talking about: Sci Fi City in Knoxville Center Mall (colloquially "East Town Mall," to differentiate it from West Town Mall). There used to be a game store, Nord's Games, in West Town, but they went under and Sci Fi City absorbed their stock.

I bought a Discoback. I am now saving toward Endo Steel for it; I will also sacrifice the small laser, saving a total of three tons which I will use for additional heat sinks.

"Swayback" is the generic term for a Hunchback variant without the AC/20. I was being specific: I bought a HBK-4P, the variant with six medium lasers in the shoulder housing.

No, "Swayback" refers specifically to the 4P variant (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

a damage potential of 80 points in 4x20 points in a 50t Machine!
there are assault mechs that don't have that much in them!

i think the maximum achieved was a certain kodiak variant . .
1xCUAC20, 2xCSSRM6, 8xCERMlaser, 1xCERLlaser.
so 40, 24, 64, 10=138 points of Damage potential . .

Meh. Either that's a later retcon, or whoever added that to the wiki didn't know what they were talking about, because my copy of TRO 3025 says "Swayback" means any Hunchback variant that swaps the AC/20 for something else.

Actually highest possible without melting yourself I think went to a clan missile boat... kraken III i want to say. it was either 8 or 10 LRM15 and 2 MG's. Going with 8 is 120 possible... more likely 90 if they all hit. But with only 40 heat and exceptional range and no min range making them also short range and long range weapons for munchkins.

But if you're after raw damage and munchtech... clan SSRM6 and as many as you can fit. Each 3 ton beasty is 12 points... 1.5 for non streak... slightly higher damage potential but you need a lot more hs's and ammo.
