Zion

He had just brought the plastic cup to his lips for a drink of what was generously labelled beer, when the first explosion went off. Instincts took him back to the Tir, back to the border. He spring from the stool, sending it towards the wall as he moved towards the middle of the room: Best place to be if someone was trying for some salsa using the walls to concentrate the impact. Of course, in this case, if was concussion and flash bangs. As the concussion grenade impacted with his chest, Zion thought, Why is it always the things that go boom?

Grenades went off on either side of him: Someone had supplied the Feifán de lóng some explosives since the last two skirmishes. The plan was working: The gangers were focusing on him, the new leader of the Fly-Boys. While the Chinese gangers focused on him, his own gang was flanking them using squad tactics. Another grenade, this one too close, this one rattling his brain, momentarily confusing him.

Shouts. Screams. More explosions.

3-B was in his face. She smacked him, yelling his name. The stim patch was nearly immediate, clearing his thoughts. The tactical display showed the smoke was working to confuse the gangers. His sniper picking off any moving out the front of the smoke while the flanking members hosed out those seeking to clear the area via the sides; several now active claymore mines began to deal with anyone in retreat. It was a slaughter, but what they had done to 3-B's half brother required a message. That message, "[i]Mess with the Fly-Boys and we wipe you out to the last member" was delivered in spades. At the end of the day, 32 men, women and teens were killed that day.[/i]

Smoke. Gunfire. Screams. Confusion. Head meet table...

Word had traveled fast and the next month was quiet, eerily so. The Fly-Boys claimed one block deep and eight long into their former rivals territory. Other gangs claimed space in the new void. A new gang rose from the ashes of the last. They called themselves the Firebirds and quickly negotiated a truce and swore fealty to the Fly-Boys.

3-B had become his constant companion and paramour. She was young for a gang's first old-lady. Only one girl challenged her position, so bold as to proposition Zion in her presence. Zion had to pull her off the woman, else 3-B would have killed her; the girl's nose and jaw would never be right again as it was.

The last year had changed Zion. He thought the military had hardened him. He thought being a shadowrunner had hardened him. None prepared him for the task of fighting day in day out to maintain an area of about sixty square blocks. He had to give up his cushy place in Puyallup City and stay with the gang, mostly full time. Night time was when most encroachments occurred. Successes had been good for recruitment. He'd over doubled the gang to a roster of 37, but last month one of his lieutenants had to execute a traitor who was supplying information to mafia about the gang.

He was supposed to go to the Mall Office to meet a mafia capo named Anthony "Tony The Jew" Gotti. Didn't he already go there...?

More yelling, but the gunfire was slowing down. He opened his eyes. Smoke. Looking around, some people were on the ground, crawling away. The smoke was too thick to make out exactly what was going on but, his head clearing, he is in the Mall Office. Someone just fracking attacked the Mall Office!

3-B was back at the safehouse, but six of the Fly-Boys, including a Tig, a lieutenant were scattered around the Mall; The biomonitor for one was off-line: Scooter had been near the Mall entrance, an area now a burning wreck smelling like a sick barbeque.

<<@Zion [Tig] Zion - You there? Your biomonitor is kinda spazzing out.>>

Mouse & Stormcrow - Saturday, March 28th, 2071@00:16:00: Crime Mall, 136th Street East & 122nd Avenue East, Puyallup Barrens, Seattle Metroplex

Minutes had passed. The duo realized they were not in shape to deal with a full on assault of a stiff drink let alone a well prepared shadowrunning team. Following Smokey Joe and the dwarf away from the bar, they exit into a janitor's closet and then into the lower level main hall of the Mall. Joe is standing near the wall, the dwarf is focused on the chaos of most people exiting the Mall.

Joe looks over at the duo and smirks. "I like your gumption. I like your common sense even better. You all want a real shot to work with a team on this?"

Lucky

"Ameal Farashy." Said the punk. Of course, Lucky was holding him against the wall a spur extended from his cyberarm, pressing against the flesh of the man's throat. He'd asked the man who'd given him the Lone Star jacket he wore. The jacket that has the name "Sanchez" over the pocket. A jacket Lucky had been seeking for a solid year.

The man had no more than relinquished the jacket when the explosion rocked the Mall from somewhere on the second floor.

"Sanchez! Get down!" Danny dove over the cruiser as the explosive rounds impacted the spot where he was. Someone had supplied the 42nd Street Crush an upgrade. "Unit 37 requesting assistance. We are taking heavy fire. Requesting SWAT."

Lucky dives for the nearest table a purveyor of counterfeit trideos is selling his wares from. Pistol in hand, Lucky looks around the corner. About half of the people in the hall react like battle scarred PTSD subjects. The other half react like frightened rabbits, screaming, running in circles or screaming and running. More explosions, this time smaller in size. The sound of weapons fire; a lot of weapons fire.

"Sanchez. Flank right, I'll cover you." echos a voice from the past.

Lucky, moves out to the right across the room. Several people track him and he them. No one shoots, each trying to asses a threat. Reaching a column, Lucky pulls on his armed jacket for the first time since that night in Tacoma. Someone had added red circles with slashes over the Lone Star logos and it smells of cannibus and someone else's sweat, but the feel and weight are his own. He moves towards the stairwell; more rabbits flee past him.

The upper level is sparsely populated. Security assets from a number of the top tier vendors have taken defensive positions. Several from behind riots shields, other the corners of entryways. Looking down hall, the Mall Office appears to have been the primary target. Scanning to call for back up, his comlink shows Zion and Aeryn both in the area.

Kendra took him back to the Puyallups that day and he was able to hook back up with Papa, Zion and Aeryn. He learned Cynic had died in that fight and for several days Danny had ridden him hard about not protecting the members of his squad. Each of the others involved in the run had pulled their part off without a hitch though. The Woman's shelter had gotten the food, the driver was released unharmed and everyone got paid. Papa even tracked down his comlink to a pawn shop two months later. The team helped him pull a run against the pawn shop retrieving both his comlink and taser. There were no records were they came from, nor sign of the rest of his missing possessions.

The team had pulled a few more runs together, but everyone seemed to be more absorbed in their own lives than working as a crew. Even Hugo had the issues of Momma now being in town and his life took a strange turn a few months after that job. His mother had become increasingly depressed. Her husband dead and now living in a shelter, she was slipping down hill. He's not really sure how it happened, but he's pretty sure her and Danny conspired against him and the next thing he knows, she's moving in.

It lasted a month before they had to move to a bigger place, two houses down. Two months after that, he came home one afternoon to find her teaching proper english to group of neighborhood kids, right there in their living room. The kids had taken to calling her "Grandma Sanchez".

Six months ago came Hugo's big break. The team did a job for a banker in Puyallup City. A local gang was attempting to extort him using his teenage daughter's BTL habit. The team had to cleanse a few of them and a used cyberarm became available.

His ties to the Chosen had also increased over the past year. Working with Shotgun and Racing-Bike, they engaged in aggressive negotiations with the gangers shaking down Java Jane's. A much more amiable deal was negotiated, ending with Jane paying the gang a fair rate and Lucky earning the respect of a gang lieutenant called Razor. A human woman born and bred on the streets, with a soft spot for dogs.

Amongst other things, Hugo had been keeping track of the kids from the home invasion with a few favors from Papa. He'd receive occasional reports in his inbox" report cards for the boy, therapy reports for both. The boy had been taken in by an aunt. Therapy reports said he was slowly getting better. The girl was a different story. The aunt couldn't deal with her and after two months she dropped off the grid. A month ago her death certificate came across. She had been listed as a street hooker. Officially her murder was unsolved. A note attached to the report listed her pimp, BJ Clinton, as the prime suspect but no one would testify against him.

Back in the moment, Lucky kept moving towards the remains of the Mall entrance. He could make out the cries of those caught in the blast and not dead. He could smelled the charred flesh and see a muscular arm, blasted from its body, lying on the floor.

Aeryn

After Cynic died, the team kinda fell apart, kinda. Oh, they helped Lucky infiltrate the pawn shop where his taser and comlink were pawned. They went through the records and shook down the owner, but no leads there. She pulled them into a couple of smuggling jobs between then and now and Kilroy had sent several runs their way, but nothing she'd label as worthy of significant street cred. Everyone seemed to fade away outside of these runs, focusing on personal stuff. Zion hooked up with the ganger chick where the safe house is. Granted, his connections there provided her a great place to drop incoming shipments for a reduced rate, but it kept him tied down a lot. Papa always has a lot of shit in the fire; sometimes he has time for Aeryn, other times he doesn't. That said, when he is available, he always comes through.

Lucky is probably the most available of the team. He has become pretty reliable muscle when she needs a second for a border run. She was meeting him here tonight and Lon to talk about a smuggling run from the Salishe... Now, if he'll just not talk about Danny.

As she parked her sedan, she spent a moment listening to the purr of the engine: the upgrade a benefit of her new doss with some workspace she was slowly but surely converting into a shop, one piece at a time. She absentmindedly checked into the security system at her place. Software from Papa, some strategy from Lucky.

Moving through the Mall, she was headed towards the Office, Lon would be there at zero-thirty. She made it halfway down the hall on the second floor when the first drone raced past her. Low, wide, oval shaped and half a meter in length. It moved on four wheels. Red with black racing stripes. It didn't climb the stairs, someone dropped it. Then it reached the entrance to the Mall... and exploded. The blast knocked her down, dazed her. She looked up to see another pair of drones race over. These drones were different. A pair of weapon platforms. They began to launch what looked like grenade after grenade into the Office.

The sound of considerable amounts of gunfire starting coming from the interior of the Office, but was all coming too high. Then from behind her, security forces turned the drones into shrapnel. Her wits about her, she rolled into the nearest shop, out of the hall. Several people began to move forward to investigate. One of them she recognizes as Lucky.

Lucky

Lucky's peripheral vision registered a small blinking light, indicating an incoming message. He mentally flicked the switch to display the contents, shown as ghostly transparent text floating in front of him. It was a simple commcode node, nothing more. Lucky smiled. Kochanski. The KE cop had replied with the anonymous commcode like Lucky had requested. That meant he was willing to deal. Good.

<<@anon[Lucky]: Need some intel on a pimp named BJ Clinton. Recently implicated in the murder of a street hooker, but he walked. Whatever you've got.>>

A sad smile crossed Lucky's features as he thought about the kids, about the girl and her life being ruined, lost. It reminded him slightly of his life before, life with Maria and always wanting kids but never able to have any. His life before...had been so different. He had had a wife; he had been a cop. Cops couldn't do anything about the girl's death. Good thing he wasn't a cop anymore. This thought pulled him up short. What was he, now?

"Sanchez, you're a do-gooder, you know that? It's a bad habit. Worse than BTLs. Getcha killed one day."

Lucky shrugged slightly at the voice coming from behind him. He stood at the counter of the Stuffer Shack waiting for his food, watching the teenager behind the counter give his jacket a hard stare. The other teenagers behind the counter started whispering, smirking...until they saw Lucky staring blandly at them, meeting their gazes with a small smile on his face. They couldn't fail to notice the small *snick* as the cyberspur inched slightly out of it's sheath on his new arm, surgical steel gleaming it's cold, pale certainty. Lucky was still getting used to his new arm and his control wasn't 100% yet.

His meal arrived without incident, and he got it to go for his trip to the Mall. He was going to be late to the meet, if he didn't hurry.

Saturday, March 28th, 2071@00:14:06: The Mall Office, The Crime Mall, 136th Street East & 122nd Avenue East, Puyallup Barrens, Seattle Metroplex

As explosions rocked the area around him, Lucky remembered what he could of his urban tactical warfare training. Keep your head low. Run quickly between cover. Always clear your zone. Was there more? He should have paid more attention during the training! No time like the present. Head low, Ares Predator held down and ready, Lucky began zigzagging through the debris from the recent firefight. Signs of the conflict were everywhere. He had to step over a few bodies lying in pools of blood, shredded bits of flesh hanging from splintered bones, arm stumps spurting blood as they reached for him, imploring him to stop, help, bodies writhing on the ground in an attempt to stand, each grotesque feature morphing into Danny's ruined face looking up at Lucky and whispering "KEEP IT TOGETHER!!!." Lucky paused by an overturned kiosk to collect himself and slow his hammering heartbeat, willing the shaking in his body to subside. The vision of Danny slowly receded, reality reimposing itself yet again.

In the meanwhile he fastened his respirator around his mouth - the smoke was starting to get thick from the gunfire and other explosions. He was lucky his cop-glasses could deal with this kind of environment. His commlink indicated that Aeryn and Zion were nearby, a nice tactical HUD of the Mall and surrounding area overlaying his normal vision. Bright green dots indicated his erstwhile teammates.

<<@Aeryn[Lucky]: You ok? I'm headed your way>>

<<@Zion[Lucky]: How's your situation? After I make sure Aeryn is safe, we could use a secure place to meet up. Strength in numbers.>>

Mouse looked over at her impromptu companion "Sure, we’re in no fit state right now to do anything about whatever the hell is going on up there…I’d like to be a part of teaching whatever bastard decided it was a good idea to disrupt the Mall like that. Life’s hard enough around here without sparking this level of conflict." she then subsided…shrinking back into herself like the mouse she usually showed to the world…her eyes were angry though and her hands never far from her blades as she watched the panic around her with sharp intensity.

Zion rolls off his back after a moment, pulling his sword from his back and Ingram holding both at the ready <@lucky[zion]"I have four fly boys in the area once we tag up we can head to our turf where we have more support">
Val sees that aeryn's signal in the area and shoots her a quick call, and then sends tig a call.
<@tig[zion"have the fly boys head home we need to find out if this was directed at us or the family?">
<@aeryn[zion]"I see your in the area want a help each other out then head out to the safe house.">

Since the explosion rocked the building zion was supposes e to meet in he obviously wants who ever tried to kill him think they succeeded if indeed he was the target so he also add to tig <@tig[zion]"don't let anyone know I'm ok, I want who ever did this to think I'm taken out, I'll be there soon enough to fill everyone in. Also once I get ere jam everyone's coms, I don't want any traitors if any still exist to say anything.">

Stormcrow starts to nod in response to Mouse's statement, then obviously thinks better of it and carefully holds his head still as he responds. "I would like another shot at whoever threw this at us as well. I know we" he points to himself and Mouse, "weren't the targets, but I still feel like responding to that. Give me time to heal up and a team to work with and I'm all for going back in there or tracking whoever did this down."

Having said his piece, Stormcrow does his best to look like he hadn't just had the drek kicked out of him as he watched the crowd moving around them. Gotta keep it together. Even after an incident like that the crowd around here will be all over anyone that appears too weak. Might even be worse in this confusion.

Lucky

The green dot indicating Aeryn's location showed she was up ahead, in a small store specializing in some kind of metal cases. Lucky ran in a crouch, feeling his leg muscles burn with the effort. He started to straighten up as he ran, but a spat of automatic weapon fire reminded him that staying low was good, that presenting a small target was good. He quickly got to the corner of the shop, the tempered glass having been blown out by the explosions. Apparently these shops weren't permanent enough to warrant plasteel. He was lucky the glass wasn't sharp as he crouched amongst the ruins of the windows, small pieces still flying through the air as bullets managed to find the odd piece that hadn't been broken yet.

He sent a quick comm message to Aeryn.
<<@Aeryn[Lucky]: I'm coming in, don't shoot!>>

The air still rang with explosions and gunfire, the screams of the dying merging with the shouts of the living to create a hellish soundscape. Another spurt of bullets created a metallic symphony as the metal cases in the store started dancing to the tune of fully automatc weapons fire. It would have been beautiful if it hadn't also meant someone was shooting in his direction. Lucky ducked behind the store corner to wait it out before heading in to try to rendezvous with Aeryn.

Zion

Zion rolls a few times then uses the momentum to roll side ways and end up crouching and immediatly goes to finding his old running buddies, it would be nice to have aeryn's trusted pistol and Lucy's muscle to help one another out of what ever was happening at the mall. The knight and star wouldn't dare step foot in on the mall, this had to be a attack aimed at himself or maybe there was someone it there that didn't like the idea of the fly boys getting some serious recognition. Either way he had to make it out of there fast and in harmed and any help would be great. <@aeryn, lucky[zion"hey guys I'm in the main office heading towards you guys safety in numbers and all. I'll call out at the corner when I'm close."> with that said zion starts to make his way to where he last saw them on his HUD. Making fast paced he felt like being in the tie strike team again clearing out urban territories.

Saturday, March 28th, 2071@00:17 Crime Mall, 136th Street East & 122nd Avenue East, Puyallup Barrens, Seattle Metroplex

The Crime Mall begins to clear rather quickly. The second floor vendors begin to quickly and efficiently to pack their supplies. much like they were prepared to vacate quickly. The patrons of the Office, as well as about everyone else in the Mall also looks towards exits. For the various team members who become reacquainted, a call is not exactly unexpected.

<<@Aeryn/Zion/Lucky [Kilroy] Hey! I noticed you all are at the Mall.. So you've seen the mess? Smokey Joe is hiring right now. Interested?>>

Mouse & Stormcrow
Joe pulls a pair of patches out of a cargo pocket, handing one to each. "You may wish you hadn't used these later, but they should help clear your heads right now. I'm getting the rest of a team together. Follow me."

With that, Joe heads off into the Mall crowd, almost like he's swimming upstream through the sea of people. The dwarf gestures to the duo to go first, then follows.

Lucky

Lucky's huge grin split his face so that his white teeth shone almost blindly through his thick dark beard. Being reunited with his teammates was a great feeling, even considering the present circumstances. He gave a hearty slap to Zion on the back as he scooted in the door, and a more appropriate greeting to Aeryn. He hunkered down behind cover with the two as more gunfire erupted, bullets and screams echoing equally loudly around the Mall. After quickly reading the message from Kilroy, he sent back a response.

<<@Kilroy et al[Lucky]: I'm in - just give me the details, the quicker the better.>>

Lucky looked at his teammates and shrugged. "We're already in the middle of it, might as well get paid for it too, you know?"

Mouse accepted the patch gratefully and shivering against the night air, pulled up her sleeve and placed it on the inside of her wrist. Almost immediatly the chemical cocktail began to wash through her system, purging the nausea, fatigue and general aches and pains... she could see why these things might become addictive!

Then she followed after Joe as he made his way through the crowds...

Zion slings his Ingram and sheaths his sword, the danger of grenade totting drones and bullet fire was over before we knew it. Zion wanted to know if the mafia was behind this. If so the fly boy would start having a extremely hard time. Zion shoots a message out to killroy as he welcomes the team back together. <@killroy[zion]" hey killeroy I have been meaning to talk to you about work. The fly boys are growing every day we need some powerful friends, you seem to be a ver well informed most the time. If you ever have work for us in exchange for information or a little support we could come to a mutual agreement. Let Smokey Joe know I'm in. Her ears still ringing somewhat from the blast, Aeryn silently thanks the damper included in her cyber-replacement. Without this tech, it would have been far worse. She still needs a moment to recover, but for the time being, she seems to be safe.

< @Lucky [Aeryn] Thanks, I'm good. Saw you zip past a moment ago, too. What the hell is going on? >

She didn't really expect an answer, it was more of a rhetorical question.

Aeryn has found a place by now from where she is in cover and watching the door, but cannot immediately be seen from someone entering.

< @Zion; Lucky [Aeryn] Hey! Good to hear, that you are ok, too. I will stay here for now. >

<<@Zion/Aeryn/Lucky [Kilroy] Smokey Joe is headed out the north entrance to the Mall, meet him there>>

Saturday, March 28th, 2071@00:20 North Entrance, Crime Mall, 136th Street East & 122nd Avenue East, Puyallup Barrens, Seattle Metroplex

Smokey Joe and his dwarven bartender are waiting out the north exist of the Crime Mall with a female human and a male elf when the trio of runners exit the Mall. A pair of gangers from the local street gang, the Lifters are approaching from the parking lot. The Lifters are one of the only two gangs allow to display colors around the Mall.

The gangers stops short and waits while Joe addresses the newly assembled team. "I have a sixth in bound." Looking to the veteran runners he simply says, "Papa is available." He then continues to address the team as a whole, his voice dropping closer to a growl. "Find out who did this. Find out how they did this; Someone on the inside perhaps? Find out why they did this; Beyond the obvious of interfering with a meet. When you know this, we'll discuss who you should bring to me." He pauses to take a breath to bring his blood pressure down, he looks off in the distance. "Someone sent a message tonight. I will be needing to send one back." Looking back to the team and letting a little of the stress drip away, "I'll pay you each a grand for the answer to each of the three questions and an extra grand in expenses. Once you have the answers, we scope out the follow up job."

Zion, looks to the others and than to joe. He was obviously not the only one who knew the meeting was going down with e fly boys who did joe know. Zion focused on the subject at hand nodding to joe gripping his swords hilts tightly with both hands. He hadn't used them lately, when they found the fragging slags who did this he would be sure to put them to the test. There didn't need to be anything said Zion was more then accepting of the offer to exact a little revenge.

Lucky

Head nodding in response to Smokey Joe's statements, Lucky noted down the details in his commlink, slipping back into routines that had developed over years on the force. Who. How. Why. Age old questions, with constantly changing answers.

"I'll need to head back in, start looking at the evidence. See if any place in particular was targeted. Collect samples from the drones that were used, spent ammo, explosive residue, that kind of thing. Joe, you could help by giving me some intel. Any big ongoing feuds here at the mall? Who would most want to do this? Who might have the means to do this?"

As Lucky is giving his speech, he realizes...he doesn't have the resources of the Star behind him anymore. No lab geeks to help with analyzing samples. No computer geeks to do the complex data-pattern analysis needed. Maybe he could sneak some time in at the old labs at the Star, call in a few favors...

"Might help if we had a chem sniffer. For the explosives. Aeryn, you're handy with mechanical things, think you could help take a look at the drones that were used, maybe help track down their originator?"

Just then a peppering of shots ricochets not too far away from their location.

"Sounds like it's still a little hot in there. Zion, you able to get some of your crew together to provide protection to us while we work? Nothing heavy, just help with securing a perimeter and keeping others away, that sort of thing. Speaking of sound, anybody record any sound from this?"

Lucky looks at the other two members of their new crew.

"I don't suppose one of you is magically active? We should look for astral signatures, the sooner we look the better - those things fade fast. Didn't look like there was any magic involved, but you never know.

Zion

Zion looked impressed since the last time he had seen lucky the old flat foot seemed to have his sensing about him, zion was glad to see him acting sensible however that could change at a moments notice if things got hairy. Zion just smiles
"The fly boys are not my personal protection we are constantly at war and have some things in the works I don't have the man power besides I don't know how the local gangs would take to us buffing our chest here, however I was meeting someone here tonight but I don't know if that was the target, the fly boys are heading home to make sure this isn't aimed at to take us down , Anything else heavy going down tonight joe? Deals or wheels turning that would be of significance to blow up the fragging mall office." Zion shoots a message to the fly boys in the area <@local fly boys[Zion]"head home and let everyone know I'm looking into matters personally might need a little extra firepower if it comes to it. >

Mouse shrugged in response but nodded at her companion as if to say ask him...

"That would be me. Call me Stormcrow, and there was definitely some sort of mojo slinging going on up there, I had something hit my wards just as it all went up but the physical attack hit me too hard to respond at the time. If I've got some cover while I look I can see what I can find by way of astral signatures."

Stormcrow pauses slightly as he looks around at the people he would be working with.

"I take it you three have worked together before. I caught Zion and Aeryn and I know the quiet one who came with me is called Mouse, but I didn't catch your handle just yet."

With that he looks at the human in the beat up armor jacket who seemed to have been directing the rest of the group for a moment before turning back to Smokey Joe.

"I can use the money and I wouldn't mind hitting back at whoever did this myself. I'm in if they are."

Lucky

Lucky's head dips in an embarrassed motion, hiding his face from his questioner. Then he raises his head again, a slight blush visible through the dark coloring of his skin and beard. A grin appears.

"Sorry about that - old habits. My name's Hugo Sanchez. I've been called Lucky for a while, I guess that's as good as any now. Pleased to meet you both."

After introductions are made, he continues.

"Looks like we're all in agreement, that is, if...Mouse? If you agree too, we can move. Need to get to that area fast, where the magic was slung. We can provide protection while Stormcrow assenses the area and whatever else he needs to do. Maybe we can pick up some of the drones that were used for the bombing along the way. Joe, can you get us access to mall security feeds from during the attack? Papa should be able to make something of that."

Lucky pauses, then says the last with a large grin on his face.

"Mouse, you ok with providing cover with us? Anything else you can help with? Seems about all I'm good for is asking too many questions."

Clearly slightly in awe of being around real shadowrunners (she didn't count her Dad in that category any longer), Mouse reached round to the small of her back and pulled out a matte black machine pistol.

"Sure, I'll provide some cover, mostly I'm good at not being seen, I guess, so if they don't know I'm watching out for you I won't be an obvious threat to anyone..."
