This, too. If I wanted to watch my goddamn space western, and I set it up to DVR it, then five minutes through Malcolm Reynolds explaining the heist, some assholes in football pads came on my TV, I'd probably heave the DVR through the wall.

I'm sort-of lucky in that I didn't get into Firefly until after it was all done with. Only sort-of, in that it really shouldn't have been all done with, but... Such is life.

So I got to play a whole bunch of Missions this weekend at AnCon, and now realize I've been ignoring a part of the rules. Specifically the whole total karma adds to Street Cred which raises Public Awareness thing.

I had almost 60 Karma earned, and few point of extra Street Cred for doing the right things, and only 1 point of Noteriety as I'm not the "performs vivisections", "chokes every prisoner to death", or etc kind of go-ganger, and sadly a few "bonus" points of Public Awareness from some missions. So, when we were doing Romero and Juliette, and I actually took the time to calculate that, I had over 10 Public Recognition. And sure, it was really cool to find out that surprise, little girls were dressing up for Halloween as my go ganger, it's probably not healthy to have such a high PA score. (Okay, I probably shouldn't have hugged the little girls mom and had pictures of the girl and Road Rash Doll taken together flashing gang signs, or offered to bring myself and my hellhound Mr. Torchy to show n tell at her school.)

What can I do about this PA aside from buying off that 1 point of Noteriety with 2 points of Street Cred? It's not much of a dent. I'm just thinking that there has to be something that doesn't involve becoming a sociopath to reduce PA, and that I'm just not looking in the right book.

I have seen some players be belligerence to the Johnson. Go out of your way to do nasty things just not too nasty you don't want to be Carver's next experiment.

I hope SR5 has that in check a little better.

I just thought of something: Go pick bar fights, get your ass beat, then have your chummers bust in and pull your ass out before anyone does you any grievous bodily harm. You'll have 'lost' the fight, taking the reputation hit, and then you can burn street cred to reduce the notoriety.

I enjoyed the Trick or Treat Shadowrun style just fine. I really enjoyed Romero & Juliette as it is a nifty story. But, in hindsight, my in-character glee at finding out there were little girls dressed as Road Rash Doll, did nothing in the way of lowering my PA. Oh, and I'm glad it wasn't my first Mission or Doll wouldn't have been equipped well enough to survive it.

I just don't feel like doing out of character sociopathic things just to gain Notoriety, because that's how the mechanics are set up as the only way to lower PA, would be good role playing on my part. It should be the characters doing those things that should be pursued more by Knight Errant.

I think for the rest of the Missions I get to play, I need to buy her a ballistic mask to wear, and a new set of all black armor to conceal her ID a bit. At least that should stop the dang bonus PA.

There's also the problem that no matter which ID you use, if you keep running and doing noteworthy things, it's going to attract attention. There's only so many times you can pass something off as mistaken identity before someone figures out who you really are.

On the other hand, sometimes hiding in plain sight is plausible. There was a movie Tom Cruise was in where he played an assassin disguised as a FedEx delivery driver, and he spent a few weeks actually delivering packages in LA to research it. Nobody recognised him while he was doing it. It's amazing what people can miss if they're not paying attention and can talk themselves out of it. ("Wow, that guy really looked like Tom Cruise, didn't he?" "You think he was actually... nah, couldn't be." "Yeah, what are the chances, right?")

It is a compelling argument. He brings to the Oval Office an unparalleled amount of experience in diverse fields ranging from warfare to ancient history to thaumaturgy to politics to draconic lore, in addition to representing a massive military asset by himself. Of all the Wryms extant at the time, he'd seem like the least likely to sell humanity in general (and the country in specific) upriver for personal gain, as opposed to developing the nation's prosperity so that all would profit thereby. He would also automatically put the UCAS back on the global importance spotlight, because a Great fucking Dragon is someone not even the Megacorps take lightly. His politics were generally beneficent, if not outright benevolent, and he seemed to be the first Great Dragon to truely grasp the fact that Earth belongs to everyone, and that dragonkind have no more inherent right to reign or rule than Metahumanity - and also that Metahumanity now has sufficient firepowerto enforce that lack of inherent right, should the dragons press the issue.


All in all, Big D would have made one hell of a president, scheming wyrm or not. At least then he'd be our scheming wyrm.
