The rules for how mystic adepts increase magic for spell casting and accrue power points needs clarification. Character creation makes it very clear that Mystic Adepts have to buy power points separately from their magic rating at a cost of 2 points of karma per power point up to their magic rating. However, after character creation the book just references Adepts saying they get one PowerPoint for each additional point of magic. Are Mystic Adepts still buying power points at 2 karma a piece or are they receiving the increase in spell power and getting the power point?

Are Mystic Adepts still buying power points at 2 karma a piece or are they receiving the increase in spell power and getting the power point? The book doesn't specifically reference Adepts, it uses the word "you", after just having talked about Adepts and Mystic Adepts. p279: "You get a free Power Point whenever you increase your Magic attribute, and you can gain a Power Point through Initiation..." I'd say both adepts and mys.adepts both get free power points with magic increases. The section on power points SHOULD be much clearer though, you're right. Throughout the book, the names "adept" and "mystic adept" aren't used with enough precision. For example, in the power points section, the book says "For adepts, losing Essence is doubly dangerous because every time your Magic attribute is reduced, you lose an equal number of Power Points". Does that mean ONLY adepts lose power points with Essence loss? Almost definitely not, but that's what the book says... I personally think most of the time, the word "adept" is meant to include physical adepts and mystic adepts. It's too bad the term "physical adept" has been thrown by the wayside, it would've kept this kind of thing from happening... |
