1. Can you hack into the local net if you are physically not inside it? E.g., you are in Denver and want to hack someone in Seattle on the local Emerald Grid.
QUOTE
Local grids can only be accessed if youíre physically in the gridís service area.

QUOTE
If you have access to the grid you want, you can just use a Grid-Hop; otherwise youíll have to get your access by the Brute Force or Hack on the Fly Matrix actions.

QUOTE
Local grids are available within a specifically defined physical area [...]. You can only access a local grid if youíre accessing it from the service area, usually the geographic area with which it is associated. For example, the Emerald City local grid is only accessible as long as youíre in Seattle. Outside the sprawl, the Salish-Shidhe ChinookNet becomes the local grid. You can still access things on the Emerald City grid, but youíre now working across grids.

2. Who uses hosts? E.g., a large apartment complex. Is everything inside connected directly to the grid or is everything inside connected to a host for this apartment (thus better protected and not directly hackable)? The same thing for research facilities (see quote below), etc.?
QUOTE
All the devices and people in a Shiawase facility will be using the Shiawase global grid

QUOTE
[Hosts] are tethered to physical locations, mostly stores, clubs, local venues, and other places that are heavily associated with a particular site in meat space.

3. If you want to hack a security camera that is connected to the local grid. You are physically standing a few meters away from it and want to hack it to remove your chummers from its captured images for the next view minutes. What actions do you have to perform in what order?

Another one:
4. Can you use the direct connection established by someone else? E.g., the teams stealth specialized sneaks into a secret place and attaches his comlinks cable to the machine. Can the hacker hack the device through his buddy's comlink?

1. The way I read it the answer is yes with a -2 dice penalty for not being on the same grid.

2. A large apt complex might have a host, especially if it is a mega owned building. But that might not necessarily mean the apt residents are connected through the host, but more likely the host runs facility services such as security, rent payments, maintenance scheduling, etc.

To clarify question 1: I mean, can you switch into the local grid to avoid the -2 penalty also you are physically not inside the local grid area.

To access a Local Grid you have to be physically present in the grids local space. Otherwise you have to work cross grid from a global grid, plus there is the Noise factor for distance.
