On a completely unrelated topic: Is there a magazine related to shadowrun published by catalyst or at least given their seal of approval?

It's called ShadowClips.

The big thing was that, back in the 30's, Ares knew it had a hit with the Predator, which would introduce Smartgun technology to the world, but wanted to corner the market on ammo as well (Sell 'em the item at a loss, GOUGE the rubes on the service package!) ... their lawyers sniffed around but, unfortunately, there was just no way to patent "Magazine" nor register it as a trademark.

But then, one young legal eagle found that "Clip" wasn't trademarked.

In short order, commercials for "Ares Clips ™, the best way to load your Predator!" became all the rage. Clips ™ were "Smart Magazines", which could interact with the smartgun, allowing it to keep track of how much ammo was left and even trigger a special release and replace mechanism, allowing you to switch in fresh ammo in the blink of an eye!

*cut to bad 3 AM infomercial advertising people fumbling with magazines, spilling bullets, and generally being useless*

Tired of all that complicated reloading? Try Clips ™ today!

Inside of two years, *everyone* bought Clips ™, and other manufacturers had to follow along or be left behind. By the time 2050 hit, it was so ingrained as to be normal, and these days, only the oldest and crotiest of oldtimers remember them ever being called anything *but* clips as the brand name has filtered out like Band-Aid and Asprin. Of *course* you put Clips into your gun! What else are you gonna put in there, Bubble Wrap ™?

So hypothetically, how would a MG or minigun in .22 LR do if you tried to use it for suppression fire? Would the reduced noise and not-so-scary bullet impacts make it notably less effective than something more conventional?

In "The Ultimate Sniper", the author John Plaster talks about one time in 'Nam where his suppressed Swedish K submachinegun seemed to be totally ineffective for suppression when trying to break contact in the jungle because it was so quiet his enemies didn't even realize they were being fired upon.

.22LR is still hypersonic, so even out of a suppressed gun it's going to be fairly noticeable.

You can purchase Subsonic .22LR. (At least you used to be able to do so... I have not bought any in a really long time). (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

lol, yours too Wakshaani for the Kleenexesque explanation of how clip got to be the word used for current magazines.

I love being able to stick my head back into Dumpshock to see what's going on after a few years, and have the same threads still active on the front of the feed.
