Though she would never, ever, admit it, in the back of her mind, Amy was relieved.

"I'm always there to volunteer for a tough job when it's needed. And yeah, I think I can make those kinds of decisions, but I've never had to. Given that you have done this before, I believe it should be you who takes the lead, my friend. My vote is for Overkill."

Internally, Grease rolled his eyes.

Rolled over fast enough!

Externally, he put on his normal, snake-oil smile. "A Kapitan, you say? I'm surprised you didn't volunteer earlier. Having that type of tactical know-how would be very valuable, provided," Grease hesitated, letting his eyes pass over Amy just briefly, "You feel you can command without distraction. If that's the case, I'd be more than happy to follow you out there tonight."

Grease grins. "After all; you fixed the only firepower I'm bringing to the table anyways."

Continuing to work on his personal evacuation plans, Jack said, "I'm good with that too. The plans easy... hell, Grease could probably lead us. Are we ready to go?"

Realizing he had dug his own grave on the matter, Drave's acceptance was cautious, but determined. "Very well, meine Kameraden, I will take the responsibility of leading tonight's attack." Noticing the look Grease gave him about Amy, Drave added, "und you have my word that when we are in the field, the safety of the crew will be my utmost concern."

Sifting through details about the ambush site in his AR display, "The plan looks solid, Jack, you have a gut eye for tactics. But there are a few things I see that we need to lay out before we deploy. We need an exit strategy, one with redundancy if things go pear-shaped and our primary escape route is cut off. We should also work out our individual objectives, so we all know precisely who is responsible for each part of the plan."

"The main problem with any evacuation plan is that we don't have immediate access to the site, unless Grease has a Hughes Stallion he hasn't told us about yet." Jack responded to Overkill's question. "What I suggested earlier is pretty much all we're going to have given what we have at our disposal, Grease tries to jack whatever wheels they're using to get to the site. Now if everything goes to drek and we lose communications, I would suggest heading towards Lower Derby Lake to our west. At the southeast corner of the lake is a stream. If you follow the western shore of that stream, it will take you back to the main road from which we entered the Arsenal."

"As far as what our roles are, Overkill and I are primarily shooters. He has secondary roles as leader and matrix support. Once the initial shots have been taken and we've taken a few of them out, Overkill should take a second to MARK the commlink of the vehicle owner so he can get Grease access to a vehicle if we need to escape. My secondary roll will be focused on rescuing the sacrifice victim. Amy is magical support. She and a spirit should join the opening salvo with appropriate magic. A lot of the success of the plan depends on shock and awe, so give it everything you've got. Grease's primary roll will be fire support with the rotodrone and securing the vehicle once Overkill hacks it."

"If we can figure out which of the fraggers are Awakened, target priority would be Truck, then the Awakened, then any mundanes who might be in the crowd. If we can figure out which of the Awakened are the most powerful, they're going to jump up our list, but Truck is always going to be numero uno."

"At least, that's the plan as I see it," Jack concluded.

Amy listened attentively. "Ok, I'll have a spirit ready to shoot them down. I might be able to also have it conceal us. As for what I do, I have more options than just trying to hurt them directly, my combat spells wouldn't be that damaging against Truck anyway. For one, I could use sensory illusions to annoy them, they would have a harder time seeing us, shooting at us, and dodging your bullets. In the end, it will all come down to how much counterspelling they can muster though."

"Oh and I hate to be the one saying this. But what happened to the age-old 'Geek the mage first'?"

Jack smirked, "This mage doesn't have a beef with us yet. If Truck somehow manages to get away, you know he's either going to ground and warning Lynx... or coming after us and ours. With that said, we definitely need to take out the serious magic threats ASAP."

Jack had waited to see if anyone else was going to ask the question he had in mind. Seeing as no one else was piping up, he said, "Alright Overkill... the numero uno rule about being a leader is picking your numero dos in the event you get popped. If I were you, I'd pick Grease."

"Actually, I have already made my choice for Meine zweite" Drave replied evenly, "You will be my second, Jack. We may not know who is responsible for your training, but they did an admirable job, nonetheless. We think alike; both of us can look at a given scenario and come to the same conclusions about what must be done. If anything should happen to me, I have no doubt that you will be able to step in and finish the job."

The team had packed up their gear, gotten in Grease's taxi, and driven to the same gap in the fence they had used previously. After another tense walk through the woods, the light starting to fade as the sun set in the west, the team arrived at the ambush site, and took up their prepared positions.

The team walked the ground one more time, making final preparations before each would have to sit in their damp holes in the ground for the next few hours.

Once arrived at the site, Amy notices that the sun is down. Time to call for some help.

Amy summons from the metaplanes a powerful ancestral spirit attuned to the skies, one that would help take care of those bloodthirsty monsters she saw in the video. She quickly finds the right one, and as it appears before her, she is surprised to find the same turbulent, vaguely human-looking form from the night before. "I'm glad you could come again to aid us, Thraha." "Here to serve, my lady, as always." "Yeah, and a great service you will be for us. Let me explain what tonight is about. So we expect a few people to be coming, you see, and ..."

Amy takes a minute to let Thraha know what to expect that night and sends him away in hiding. He'd be ready to intervene at a moment's notice, well aware of the situation. "I've called an ancestral spirit to our side again, and it's the same as last night, let's hope that he will be as efficient."

"You will have to thank him for me sometime." Drave replied to Amy.

Before the team dispersed to their position, Drave addressed the team, "Alright, Meine Kameraden, before we deploy, lets go over the plan one last time. Once Truck and his fellow cult members arrive, Amy will check them out and see if she can give us some better target priority. I will MARK the driver's commlink and set Grease up to take control of it when the time comes. Once those tasks are complete, I will blow the flashbangs as soon as they are all in range; the longer we wait, the longer we risk detection. Until Amy tells us otherwise Truck is our primary target, but be sure to check your fire and aim carefully, we don't want to hit their captive. After our initial volleys, Jack will do what he can to get to the girl and get her clear of the engagement. Grease, try and focus the rotodrone's on any of the hostiles who break away from the main group, but don't open fire too early, we want them to think they at least have the option of falling back for a few moments after the firing starts." Drave concentrated for a moment, making sure he hadn't forgotten anything before concluding, "Unless anyone else would like to add anything, lets get into position. Viel Spaß beim Stöbern "

In a word, the team was uncomfortable. After hours in their holes, there was no comfortable position. The holes had to be dug shallow enough that the team members could get out of them, and so they could not stand up straight. This meant that for the last three hours, each member of the team had to shift between crouching, which became painful after a while, or sitting. Despite the efforts of the spirit the bottom of the holes still had water seeping in, so the bottom of the holes were a mixture of water and mud.

Despite the uncomfortable conditions, each of them was keyed up, and tense, waiting for Truck and his associates to arrive. At least at first. As one hour, then two dragged by, boredom began to creep in, as the the team found out first hand what it is like to be in combat, long periods of boredom punctuated by short periods of extreme violence. Overkill was probably the least affected, having gone through situations like this back in Germany, even catching a few minutes of sleep in his hole while waiting. Amy at least had someone she could talk to, as she and the spirit were able to communicate in silence with no chance of giving away their position, and she took advantage of it.

Finally, Grease's Flyspy hovering in the air picked up two vehicles approaching down the road from the north. The video feed from the drone showed a van and an Americar coming down Potomoac Street and stopping.

The door to the van opened, and Truck got out, walked to the back, opened the doors, and reached, emerging with a limp female form, which he threw over his shoulders like a towel. Meanwhile, the occupants of the other car, 4 altogether, had emerged, each carrying a small duffel bag. Truck joined them, and they walked together towards the lake, reaching the second cross.

The four men, all human, wore suits, and looked out of place among the trees. Truck's clothing was obviously armored, its cloth bulky on his already massive frame. None of the men were visibly armed.

The members of the team were all waiting anxiously, safeties off, waiting for Overkill's signal.

As the metahumans are approaching the site, Amy takes a quick peek out to observe their auras. The soreness of her muscles is obvious as she crouches down once more.

Finally breaking the radio silence, Amy's voice can be heard. <<@Team [Amy's subvocal] I see four humans and Truck. Only the guy with long blonde hair isn't awakened. Truck's probably the most dangerous, but the other targets are soft. Waiting for your mark Overkill.>>

"Get ready for a fight, Thraha."

Gametime!

Grease puts his free hand into his jacket very slowly to avoid making noise; reaching in he grabs a popper of cram and snorts it, the colors of the forest immediately becoming more vivid (and jittery). He checks the safety and ammo readout on his Ingram X, frowning inwardly.

This is going to be about as effective as a spitball if that Troll comes over here...

<<@Team [Grease's Subvocal]: Ok guys; waiting on you Overkill. I will hold off lighting them up immediately.>>

Unless of course the plan goes completely sideways..

Jack had settled into his foxhole, leaning his back against the wall as he waited for the targets to arrive. He felt the plan was pretty straight forward. While there was still a lot that could go wrong, they should be at a significant advantage if they managed to get the jump on the crew and successfully trigger the trap. In the world of high-velocity metal bits, a few seconds could often make a difference. The ork resisted the urge to check his gear. He had already done so several times at the house as well as in the car on the way over. Inspecting his weapons in this mud hole would have been a pretty terrible idea in any event. The last thing he needed was for his weapon to jam when they sprung the trap. He felt the reassuring weight of his SMG strapped across the front of his body and his holdout pistol riding in the pocket of his camouflage pants.

After several hours, Amy's voice cut through the silence indicating that the targets had arrived. Here we go... he thought to himself as he activated his wireless reflex system.

<<@Team [JustJack] Alright everyone, by the numbers. My target priority is Truck>>

As the team waited with anticipation, the five cultists walked across the clearing toward the sacrificial cross. Truck carried the girl right to the cross, his feet sinking into the earth with each step as the wet ground gave way under his massive weight. As he moved to tie the girl to the cross, the flash bang a mere 3 meters away, the other men were all going about their own tasks. All four of them had stopped near the edge of the clearing about 10 meters from the sacrificial pole, and put their duffel bags on the ground. One of the dark haired men began chanting to himself, while the other, along with the one with the close cropped blonde hair pulled black robes out of their bags and began to pull them on over their suits. The man with the long blonde hair looked around, his hands in his pockets, his eyes impossible to see behind his shades.

As the team looks on, the man finishes his chanting, and a mist rises from the lake, swirling in a funnel shape as it moves across to him. The man bows his head as he communicates silently with the spirit for a moment, and then the spirit vanishes from normal vision. To Amy's astral sight, the spirit begins stalking around the area in a spiral pattern.

Meanwhile, the other two cultists finish shrugging on their robes, and Truck secures the girl to the cross. The robed men move to the cross and begin inscribing patterns into the ground. Meanwhile the man with the long blonde hair, his visual sweep of the area seemingly completed, also pulls out a robe from his bag, and puts it on.

Amy was anxiously waiting for the signal from Overkill. I guess he's waiting for the mages to get in range.

Understanding that the spirit could definitely matter during the fight, she thought she'd let them know about it.
