I'm writing a background for a guy from the Phillipines who served as a Terrorist/Freedom Fighter (Please don't get into the semantics about which term is right. Please?) opposed to the Japanese occupation of the islands. Anybody out there with info on when they came, what they did, and what all happened? The only info I can find is in SOTA:2063. Any help would be appreciated!

Year of the Comet has loads of stuff on the Huk rebellion, how the Filipino people dealt with the cataclysms caused by Halley's and all sorts of other stuff. I'll get more specific when I find my YotC book.

Er, I'm not exactly in a position to buy any SR books other than the main book. I live in the boonies, and I'm loathe to buy things online right now for reasons I don't want to get into right now. Cyberpirates is 2E, FASA, yes?

I'll just pull things out of my arse, I suppose, as far as info goes. But does anybody know the year in which they started occupation? I don't want to end up being too young/too old to exist there.

I oughta just say fuckit and be a triad.

Part of the Huk makes for a neat background. Many hooks and such. Occupation began right after the Awakening in 2011 as the volcanoes, earthquakes and tidal waves rock the island nation. The occupation becomes a real oppressive force in 2021 as they begin shipping metahumans to Yomi. Things just go down hill after that. However, note, that the relationship is similar to Israel in that the Japanese have lifted the Filipino economy and brought it to modern day standards (electric gadgets litter the streets, but the people have no prospects).

Thankee, KT! That's pretty helpful!

But as for geography goes, are there still areas of dense vegetation? Like, places where groups like that can spring down from the trees to kill imperialistic scum? XD

Take it from a Philippine native.

They'd have to glass that archipeligo to completely wipe out anything even remotely 'densely vegetated'. Heck, the northern area of Luzon up above Manila and close to Baguio is practically nothing but mountainous terrain and forests. That they managed to build arcologies and stuff up in Baguio still trips me out, unless they airlifted everything up there (the roads suck).

From my experiences, pretty much the only cleared areas are near major cities and so forth. Roads and highways sometimes cut through jungle/forest.

Cardboard, you just made my day. You made it so much.

Right now, I'm working on a human mundane knife-fighting samurai. I want to drop from trees onto occupied forces and stab them in the neck.

I'm so happy!

If you look around on the 'net, you can find some great pictures of various places in the Philippines. I'd suggest picking which island your character is from, what sort of religious background his (or her!) family comes from (because there's quite a bit of Muslim and Catholic influences there, among others), and so on. Just helps make it that much cooler.

You can probably get some traffic cam (near real-time) pictures of various areas of Metro Manila if you look. You can try www.inq7.net for Filipino news...

A quick google of the Philippines will probably turn up alot though. Make sure to pay attention to the topographic maps, since most the the place in mountains.

Also, there are plenty of regional 'semi-dialects' Dialects plage though, 'closely related' languages is probably a better term.

Why do I get the feeling you saw The Hunted? (Says the person who made a PC based on del Toro).
