QUOTE (Kagetenshi)
At some point I need to finish making that Battle Angel/Shadowrun conversion that I'd been toying with the idea of for a while…

I've done versions of Alita in her different suits and used her as an NPC in one run (well, one of the suits was in another run, but nobody in it at the time.) The plasma cutter hand is a wonderful weapon. I ruled that the plasma could also be enlarged and used as a shield against most projectiles.

If you leave off things like essence, most of battle angel works. Rokangus has a character who's based off Desty Nova.

Wasn't that crazy about the movie compared to the manga, but not bad.

Now I'm just waiting for Last Order volume 4 to be translated (and 5, but the japanese one just came out for that, so it'll be a while.)

FXcalibur: That's really pathetic. They might as well shun dark elves "Because people with dark skin are like bad, d00d."

AE, where'd you get that idea? I'm not biased against furries or anime, I thought I explained how I was looking at the situation in my other post. Or is my wording not very good? Or do you not approve of my take on the situation?

I said "they". I have no idea what your take on the situation is, and I did not mean to imply that I do not approve of it. I do not approve of those people's take on the situation who think "Furries = Bad".

@Kagetenshi, Fahr: I once made a Battle Angel Alita-ripoff character. I intented to give it to some player when they wanted to play a -5 Amnesia char. :D

She was pretty much loaded up to notch with cyber and bio. She even fought one of my players characters in a "Illegal streetfighting tournament"-type Shadowrun and was able to win, even if she was a starting character and the players character was 300 karma char who was mostly geared to melee.

:noflame: Down boys. Back on track.

The concept is great (truly fucked up, but great), and Id have made this point 5 hours ago, but I was side tracked by Sailor Nothing. Danka for the linkage, its totally shot what ever I was to acomplish today.
Im NO expert, as my manga choice is Cowboy Beebop, and after my sisters friend invaded my house with a box of Sailor Moon and friends DVDs, I was despretly in need of a beer, a cigerette, and 302 V8 so I didnt feel so poluted. Im defintly keeping this concept in mind if/when I run a truly f*ed up game someday.

Oh. If I may be blunt, misunderstandings suck =/

I think I've disrupted the poor thread enough. I'll be off now.

Alita is awesome Kagetenshi... though I liked the Manga more than the adaption.

Oh, definitely. The original manga (and the new manga series) were both far superior. That doesn't mean that I don't like the movie, or that I don't like the fact that there's a movie; I hope they make more movies out of the series. It'd definitely adapt well to Shadowrun, though it'd take some reworking of Essence and other things to encourage full-borgization.

You're welcome. ;) If you really want to have a few days chewed up, read through the same writer's Slayers fanfiction and/or the original work UNreal Estate. Twoflower's got some of the best writing I've ever seen; he's certainly the best writer I've ever read who wasn't published in dead-tree format. :)

For the record, the "weapons out of nowhere" could be a manifestation of combat or elemental manipulation spells with touch-range. It's just a special effect, after all.

QUOTE (Abstruse)
And you might like stuff like Cowboy Bebop, Battle Angel Alita, and Ghost in the Shell as they're all at least marginally cyberpunk and are generally serious in tone. And I DARE you to watch Grave of the Fireflies without crying by the end.

I'll second those choices. And I have to say, Grave of the Fireflies...don't watch it if you're in a good mood. It's amazing, but it's definately going to have you on a huge down note at the end of it.

I have to say though, Cowboy Bebop is probably one of my all-time favorites, anime or not. And the dubbing is excellent, so you don't have to worry about bad voice acting. I've noticed that a lot of good anime is ruined by the voice acting, so if you don't like watching sub-titled stuff it's hard to find anime you can take seriously with all the bad voice acting in it.

But, some people just don't like the genre I suppose. Although I can't see why anyone into cyberpunk and Shadowrun type stuff can't at least get into things like Akira or Ghost in the Shell or other similarly themed anime. Especially since it's all drawing from the same basic stuff for inspiration.

Wow. That's a really great thought... must create character with touch-range spells...

Hey, Rabid Furry convention. That's an idea, it's bound to be the one place in the SR universe where a Shapeshifter can be completely safe though surrounded by metahumans. Have to be a way to work that into a run someday.

But back to the important issue, Magical Girl Shadowrunners. Is there any obvious problem with this build I should fix? Or is there any tweak I should use that would keep her in-character while making her less likely to die in the first turn of any combat?

I haven't seen that stop characters less fit for it than this before, so I dont' see why it should be a problem now...

I dunno. I doubt if I would hire a psychotic chick dressed in a little school girl outfit for anything resembling most shadow jobs. But maybe that's just me.

'Course I feel the same way about most otaku, obvious ghouls, and other majorly oddball characters.

Aw, c'mon. If they hire psychotic trolls with day-glo mohawks for runs, they'll hire girls in schoolgirl outfits. Of course, what *kind* of jobs they get becomes an issue. I'm sure someone will hire her, it's just a question of what she's hired to do.

If we realistically played who a Johnson would hire I suspect 90% of Shadowrunners would be out of a job. Frankly in real life no corp would hire runners, they'd just use corp security and fudge the books to hide their involvment and screw hiring dangerous, unpredictable, and generally unstable beings.

I've always envisioned it to be this: runners are hired for when they need professionals, but can't spare their own shadow ops-esque division men. I believe runners are hired for jobs that require more skill than the average secguard or 'security guy'. but with a very low survival rate, so they can't risk that brand spanking new cyberzombie they just created. Why waste 16++ million when he's probably going to die? That's where runners come in.

Not to mention half the time the badass secsquad is the group sent to HUNT DOWN the runners when they frag up things horribly. :P :D
