If I ever get the chance to play D&D I want to play a monk, but I would want him to be like the famous Mexican pro-wrestler El Santo. This works well because there are in fact lots of old movies starring El Santo from the 50s, 60s, and 70s where he pro wrestles against werewolves, demons, the swamp thing, mummies, and so on. Having him be a D&D character who fights monsters just seems logical.

I definitely think it would be necessary to write a prestige class or something for lucador. Maybe lots of really powerful grapples and power attacks that can be used when jumping from an elevated position. Or a special clothesline maneuver that upgrade the Attack of Opportunity when someone moves past the luchador. It would be the best campaign ever where a luchador defeats the evil vampire lord at the end of the campaign after a desperate prolonged battle with a German supplex.

Pathfinder, which is more or less D&D 3.75, has a monk archetype called the Tetori.

They give up some standard Monk abilities to become the absolute masters at grappling. Eventually they can even grapple giants and dragons. (Picture the Tetori putting an agonizing joint lock on a giant's toe)

Depending on what rule set you're using (PF v 3.5, although technically all 3.5 material is allowable as is for PF) and materials you have access to, I would check out the Swordsage from Book of Nine Swords and focus on the Setting Sun style. It revolves entirely around unarmed fighting, grappling, and throwing.

Look up the Martial Artist as well. Sacrifices the supernatural monk abilities in exchange for hand to hand skill.

Also there is a new guide coming soon for PF, called the Advanced Class Guide, it basically merges some classes together, to the point where if you have levels in one, you cannot take levels in the parent class. Arcanist, for example, is a blend of Sorcerer and Wizard. One of them, the brawler, is a merge of the Fighter and Monk. They still have the playtest guide up but the official one should be coming this month or next.

Even though they're in Spanish, you can turn on CC, and then go to Options (the gear icon) to auto-translate into English so you can have an idea of the dialogue.

The idea of a masked luchador who investigates the supernatural and purges such evil as Dracula and the Wolfman would work not only directly, as a Monk in the D&D setting, but could also work in modern settings, just as this film I have linked is set in more or less contemporary times.

You could have a similar character concept for White Wolf, Call of Cthulhu, or whatever.
