Consider, too, just how much of the jarhead remains. Their brain and some extra bits are all that is left, and this is stored in a special life support container (the CCU). That container is like a metahuman's armor and clothing, while the drone body it is installed into is not just like a vehicle but really is a vehicle for it. Saying a jarhead can be directly targeted by their aura alone through their drone body is like saying a metahuman can be directly targeted by their aura alone through the tank they are sitting in.

Pretty much, it's just a matter of scale. And considering that the "drone" bodies a jarhead can be plugged into include actual vehicles...
