How is this supposed to work? Almost every thread I've read says Diagnostics adds the Sprite's rating as a dice pool bonus to tests to use the device, but SR4 says they roll Rating x 2 and each hit adds a die. Which is it? Also, if it's Rx2, do you roll that once and sustain the power, or do you have to roll that every time you make a test to use the item?
I kind of wonder if it was changed to +Rating(dice) in the SR4a. I'm using the older SR4 book. |

IIRC - You roll twice the Rating and add the resultant Hits as a Dice Pool Bonus (to the maximum of your skill rating in the skill) to all rolls while Diagnostics is sustained. I will peruse the book and confirm or retract as necessary. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
Edit - From the Book: QUOTE (SR4A, Page 242, Sprite Powers) Diagnostics The Diagnostics power allows the sprite to evaluate the inner workings of an electronic device. The sprite must be present in the node of the device in question. The sprite can then assist someone using or repairing the device with a Teamwork Test. Make a sprite rating x 2 test; each hit adds 1 die to the character’s test to use or repair the item. The maximum dice bonus the character can receive from the teamwork test is equal to that character’s skill. So my above explanation is Essentially Correct. |

TJ's response is also in keeping with the SR4A Errata update. Response x 2, successes are dicepool bonus.

Wait a minute, *teamwork* test?? Machine Sprites count against your Teamwork bonus? You can't use specialized tools enhanced with a Machine Sprite and also get assistance from... an assistant?

Of course you can... as long as the total dice you apply is never more than your Skill. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

I think it was errata'd in to keep technomancers from getting +4 dice to every test with a mere smartgun from their rating 4 machine sprite.
