So, can you have an adept with Adept Spell cast this? Seems that a really stupid build would be Elven, with agility high, and a high blades skill along with a enhanced magic attribute. So you concentrate on the spell you take a -2 dice pool to everything.
This still seems really overpowered. |

I mean, they are good, but a starting adept with adept spell is only going to get a sword with a damage value of 6(since Adept Spell can't overcast). Getting that up to 8 damage takes close to 100 karma. Ignoring all armor is great, but it is much better on Mystic Adept, who are already super karma intensive.

Three points of armor on average compensate for one point of damage, therefore the "ignores all armor" gets compensated by the lesser damage unless the target is heavily armored:
Manablade with Magic 7 does 7 damage and ignores all armor Monosword with Strength 7 does 10 damage and ignores 3 (IIRC) armor The 3-point difference in damage equates 9 points of armor on the target, plus 3 points of AP, all other relevant attributes being equal that means the Manablade only does more damage against a target with >12 armor. That makes Manablade a fine weapon against Robocop types and of course it's concealable like other spells, a physical blade on the other hand is unaffected by the fickleness of magic and getting a Strength upgrade is vastly cheaper. |

Manablade also has the being resisted by willpower benefit as well, but basically this. Like, I feel manablade is really good for melee, but it is still melee, and doesn't outperform traditional melee the way an assault cannon outperforms a pistol, and best on a type of character that normally doesn't do well in melee. |

I was reading that only full adepts and full magicians are worth creating that the sub types are just gimped versions.

I was reading that only full adepts and full magicians are worth creating that the sub types are just gimped versions. Mystic adept? Mystic Adept is well worth the Cost, if you like to blend archetypes... He loses Astral Projection (and Only gets Astral Perception with an Adept Power) but gets to add Adept Powers on top of his Spellslinging and summoning abilities. I have seen Mystic Adept builds with 6 Magic and 6 Poower Points... I even like Aspected Magicians, as long as they are either spell slingers or conjurers. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) So No, not just Full Adepts or Full Magicians are worth creating. |

I was reading that only full adepts and full magicians are worth creating that the sub types are just gimped versions. Mystic adept? An aspected Mage can be called gimped because a full mage can do anything an aspected one can do but much more. A mystical/magical Adept on the other hand can become quite Awesome if build right. he needs way more Karma than a full Mage or full adept, but he can combine both aspects ( one example could be that only a dedicated mystical Adept can get an Initiative of 40+ & 5d6 , he only needs (IIRC) 20-30 Karma and a komplex Action to prepare ) so ; Aspected Mage Nay Mystical Adept Yeah (but you have to know the Rules ) He who dances with a Yeah Medicineman |
