Threshold before or after comparison when doing an opposed test?

I roll 8 successes have a threshold of 4.
Opponent rolls 5 successes.

A) Do I only count 4 vs their 5 so they have one more then me.
Or
B) I count 8 vs 5 giving me 3 over but is under the threshold?

I didn't see it spelled out in the examples.

Using Mind Probe as an example, it should be after the opposed roll but only because it says use the net hits to determine effect. Do you have an example of this from another source?

I think you are confusing Thresholds with Limits.

A Threshold is the number of hits you need to succeed on a roll.

The Limit is the maximum number of hits you can use on the roll.

Unless there is an errata somewhere that I have missed (quite possible, given the state of things at the moment), the Limit applies before comparing to the opposed roll. Reason: Page 47 of the Core Book states that the Limit restricts hits (and not net hits).

Thank you....
Yes I was confusing thresholds and limits, but thank you for the clarification.

You are welcome.

But for the record, I wasn't clarifying for you.
I was clarifying to make sure we were both having the same conversation. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/nyahnyah.gif) I mean, if I had it wrong, and you were talking about Thresholds, my answer wouldn't have been fitting.
