QUOTE For the retreival job, I'm prepared to pay each of you 10000€ - provided you can get the data back within the next 24 hours and leave no copies behind." Before Sharkboy plays those words back and makes a stink about this: Was this just a slight accident in wording or is she intentionally changing the story after being questioned about that time limit? |

QUOTE What do you think your service is worth? That question is hard to answer, really. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Of course, it is a lot of money for a day's (or a few days) work, if you look at it that way. OTOH, it really does not get you very far, considering how pricy everything is. Bye Thanee |

It's meant as a clarification why you should try to get it done within 24 hours

It's a story by Isaac Asimov about a robot that becomes recognized as a human being (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

It was made into an (in)famously terrible movie starring Robin Williams. https://i.pinimg.com/originals/1a/0a/62/1a0...111242f32ca.jpg
It's only slightly over 2 hours, but it feels like forever and a day. |

For those unfamiliar with why Sharkboy described what's happening as "carny gonna carny."
Pro wrestlers/pro wrestling bookers/pro wrestling promotional owners are derisively called "carnies" when they use shitty business tactics. This is because the sport/business has it's root in carnival strong-man/wrestling competitions at the turn of the century. Famous instances of pro wrestling folks acting like a "carny" would include famous mottos like "card subject to change", translated to "we're going to lie about what's on the show tonight, and then excuse the false advertising because 'card subject to change'." Generally treating fans with no regard for their intelligence; not as customers, but as "marks", will get them called carnies. However, that label can also be applied when fans find out about backstage instances and shitty dealings between management and talent. Such as when Alundra Blaze/Madusa walked out of WWF still holding their women's title and then appeared on television for WCW and dropped the title into the trash. Relevant to the negotiations is Jeff Jarrett's holding up Vince McMahon in 1999. Jeff Jarrett's WWF contract ran out just before the pay per view where he was booked to drop the Intercontinental Championship to Chyna. Jarrett "held up" Vince McMahon, demanding what other wrestlers estimated to be about $300,000 to do the job and then leave. Jarrett got his money and then went to start his own wrestling company, Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. Yes, he called his new company "TNA" wrestling, because carny gonna carny. |

The main problem with negotiations like this is the lack of data to rely on and wildly differing expectations.
The characters are pretty high level and thus assumed to know their worth. However, the players have no idea what that might be, so everyone has a different opinion on that. It would actually be pretty helpful to know what you, Jack, consider a decent pay for a typical run, and how much one could expect compared to a normal run for it being extremely dangerous (which losing one team already suggests) and also with a highly limited time frame. i.e. what do low level (street level) / mid level (regular starting level) / high level (prime runner level) runners usually get for an average job? Well, if you went by the table from core, you could expect
3000 x (4 (highest Dicepool/4) + 1(Contact with dangerous element of sixth world)) = 15.000¥ Which is what she innitially offered. The 10k extra were in deferrence to your status as high level runners. That said: NPCs have hard limits of what they are willing to pay - after all, hiring mercenaries is a shortcut so you don't have to spend more money getting things done legally. That the other crew died is immaterial, as you can't know their professional level and risking your life is a part of all runs in the sixth world. |

I am here, just haven't felt the need to comment.
SquirrelDude - Smart Mark over here, but thanks for the history lesson (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Volker - Roleplay is roleplay, IRL is IRL, I don't confuse the two. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Once Taurus knows that Sharkboy doesn't speak German, he will make a point of translating for him if allowed to. (Btw, he has a accent because he wants to have an accent, he can lose it if need be) |

@Jack: So, where is the facility? Is it in a village, a town, a dense forest, a desert, the city of Worms? What kind of neighborhood. Stuff. |

I actually did miss that.
Has Worms grown during the last 70 years? Most big cities extend a lot farther than they do in reality. I'm asking, because Worms 2076 might have industry or an arkology where now are only fields and acres (on the opposite side of the Rhine, I mean). |

Certainly, it's part of the Frankfurt Sprawl.
But there are still large wooded areas around. |
