If I don't get any penalties for being inside a FlySpy:
Tracking: 8d6t5 3

I'll jump in to use the full enhancement on its sensors, although it might not grant a bonus rule-wise. She's still got the Tracking soft loaded.

You can substitute agility and palming for int and/or perception.
If you go for a tactile pat down the mod is reduced to -3

Is there something different about spirits in 5th edition? I thought you couldn't hurt a spirit with firearms.

No, it's just really hard to hurt them, thanks to their hardened armor.
Defense: 13d6t5 5
Glancing blow, 14 hardened Armor - 5 AP = 9 - attack is canceled


Also it's an F7 spirit @gilga, it only had twelve dice because it's maintaining an invisibility spell
You can't force the intersection without either a second barrier or an object that pushes the spirit through.
The spirit on the other hand can try to use astral combat to destroy the barrier - otherwise it's trapped
Astral Combat: 14d6t5 9
16 damage vs the barrier: (Let's take your roll of 7) equals 9 net damage
Your barrier has your net hits in boxes (the mana barrier spell is an anomally to other mana barriers who have their boxes equal to their Force),
so the barrier goes down.
The spirit moves forward and upward 28m and is now 30 m away from Nova. Next round it can break line of sight

It works pretty much the same in 4th and 5th, really. They have that hardened armor, which makes it hard to damage them, but with AP, you have a chance, at least. If Nova had a proper weapon, the spirit would be in more trouble. The pistol is okay, but not quite powerful enough, I'm afraid.

The spirit is dual-natured so it takes physical space I thought I should be able to intersect,
I do not want to cast F8 barrier, risk physical drain to slow the spirit down in the same manner as a low force barrier. Or three? So can I split dice and cast 3 barriers instead like F3, F4, F5?

Or at least do a stun bolt or something more useful than just hurting Anna for no good reason?

You might have noticed that it took a really amazing success for the spirit to break through in one action. Otherwise it would have stayed trapped.

Yes it can intersect - but only if it is forced to move through the barrier.
What you do with your next actions is entirely up to you - just note that eliminating the spirit now might also severely harm the boy.

@Volker
James was moving along to guide Anna's spirit to the mage at the bus stop and was about 100m away. bnc received the messages from Nova and Anna and had her flying drone still around - if james moves or not is entirely up to bnc. With 80m per turn, James should have no problem to get in range again.
