What you do with your next actions is entirely up to you - just note that eliminating the spirit now might also severely harm the boy. I can catch him! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Bye Thanee |

*shrugs* there are many more effective ways to slow the spirit down like triple barriers that take 3 actions to take down, and no chance for a physical drain.
I wanted to make an attack. What you say is not that obvious because if the spirit flies through the air and suddenly there is an astral barrier, it needs to change its course as a dual nature being it will not crush into the barrier but intersect with it because the barrier has no physical presence, and cannot change the trajectory of its physical body. I don't mind it not working, but it feels like such a big investment for something I did not want to do, and if I did I had much better ways ways to do so. Nevermind, let's kee going. |

I'm not entirely sure I grasp where exactly James is at the moment.
Is he 100 m away from the dwarf or the car? To keep it short: If James is very close to the dwarf, he'd run there hastily and try to use him as a hostage and force him to release the boy. If he's too far away, obviously, he won't. There's not a whole lot he can do about the spirit itself. |

@gilga
Spirits are explicitly not bound by normal physics. Your big investment could have paid out, but didn't. Them's the breaks - after all, the spirit could also have gotten lucky intersecting with the spell and ignoring your investment that way. @Volker Here is a map to clarify the current situation. [ Spoiler ] James is about 100m away from the current commotion. The spirit is rising into the air and moving south |

The spirit moves forward and upward 28m and is now 30 m away from Nova. Next round it can break line of sight The spirit (probably) has used up the movement for the round, so we still have all the remaining passes (and, depening on initiative rolls, once more next round), before it can move again, right? Anyways, not much luck with the attack rolls here. Bye Thanee |

Can't Nova try to catch the boy with some sort of interrupt action?
And, huh, didn't think they were that high in the air. 20 meters? Bye Thanee |

28 m diagonally forward and into the air - it's pretty much exactly 20 m
And I explicitly warned you that this would happen if you disrupted the spirit. Even with an interrupt action your catching the boy would trisect him on your metal arms. |

Maybe Nova could jump up and catch him, so he can benefit from her hydraulic jacks.

Well, to be honest, he shouldn't fall that quickly. He starts with speed going upwards, and once the spirit is disbanded continues on a ballistic trajectory. There is no reason for him to suddenly hi the pavement. Being so high (and with considerable speed in an upward trajectory) would have him up in the air for a short while. (and the way down would be longer than the way up because gravity has to overcome his current momentum before he starts going down).
I mean, the spirit propelled him (say 45 degrees) into the air, reaching speeds of what (30-60 km/h). Gravity is not that strong, the boy should continue going upwards, slowing by 10 meters/sec every second so he should have at least another combat turn for losing current speed, slowing down, and (perhaps inevitably hitting the pavement (from much higher than 20 meters). (I was thinking even 2 combat turns since gravity only robs him of 10 meters/second vertical speed. You just don't instantly hit the ground - and in SR world we have spirits that can materialize to catch him, levitate spells. With my own understanding of the world and its physics, it was obvious to me that we are going to have plenty of time trying to stop him from hitting the ground. I know that you warned up that the boy will 'fall' but falling is not that imidient that we can't do anything about it. I mean we may fail to stop him for various reasons but you did not even let us try. |

Hm, good thinking, gilga.
If 28 m distance mean 20 upwards, it's almost straight up. The ending speed would apparently be 28m/CR or 9,3 m/s. So, after one second he would start dropping, after another he would have a speed of 10,3 m/s. At that time, he would be slightly lower than 20 m, which means basically two things: 1) We have a little less then one combat round, actually. But you should have, say, two-and-a-half seconds. Maybe Jack would still allow a Recklessly cast Levitate or something. 2) The boy actually falls more like 25 meters or so ^^ even more crunch cheers |

Guys, I'm doing this by the book, specifically by the falling damage rules.
And by now you should have realized, that the dwarf tried to rescue the boy. I might allow a rescue if someone had held their action to do something or maybe even if it was the first phase of combat. You can't act again before he has fallen a considerable amount and gained quite a lot of kinetic energy. To shed that you need to decelerate him over a longer distance than you have if you don't want to turn him into paste. Had he fallen from 50+ meters, the rules would allow another round where you could do something. As it stands, the time to do something is too short. And I warned you before that this would happen QUOTE just note that eliminating the spirit now might also severely harm the boy.

At any case, Anna can reckless stunbolt, and reckless levitate at the same turn. If you allow. I honestly felt like we'll have a few seconds to resolve it.

Drain vs 5: 2#15d6t5 6 1
4 stun damage overall. Sb/levitate: 2#19d6t5 9 5 So stunbolt is same 8 hits, levitate 5 and he'll get down slowly. |

I think that's more as fair.
Wouldn't her Perception against James roll be an Opposed roll against Sneak..? Edit: I just realized I never mentioned sneaking or hiding, so nevermind. I'm gonna roll as soon as I've got my pc |
