Thanks. The two can eat slowly and figure out what to ask a hearth spirit.

Yes... sorry.

Feel free to npc me when i disappear. When life gets busy I forget to post. Then I get behind and have a lot of posts to read.

Just worked a bunch of days, nights, back to days in a row, then I was off for my wifes surgery cause she couldnt do anything for a few days. Also, lost power over the weekend for 30 hours, thanks to another crazy windstorm like the one that decided to fuck up my roof in December. ugh.

I will catch up tonight, and post tomorrow.

---
EDIT - Not much to read... posting...

Hope your wife is improving.

My wife has the Gremlins Negative Quality. Sounds like you have something going against you, too.

Minor surgery. But she cant do anything due to the pain and stitches afterwards. I told her to grow a pair. She said she would kick me in mine.

GM's remark:

You're obviously pursuing a given line of questioning based on a specific theory of what happened.

Equally obviously, it's running into a dead end.

This is where you need to seriously consider that your theory of what happened doesn't match what happened. If intimidation were the story, or thugs subtly vandalising things, there's no doubt that your questions would have supported those hypotheses.

Oh, yeah. I get that. Been there. Done that. Ate the guide.

But Blue is six days into a whole new life. Read and understand academic texts? no problem. figure out street politics? Whu?

Even Blue, though, is getting the hint now. hopefully street-smart Karmakaze can redirect things or make suggestions that can twig Blue's idea machine.

I am at a loss on this path as well. I think we need to head back to Karma's office and pour through all the data they got. I still have all of this to resolve:

QUOTE (Bastard @ Jan 16 2023, 01:24 PM) *
SKILLS
[*] 4 (6) Police Procedures / Seattle Lone Star
[*] 3 (5) Police Tactics / Seattle Lone Star
[*] 4 (4) Criminal Justice System
[*] 2 (4) Criminal Organizations / Seattle
[*] 3 (3) Fences
[*] 3 (3) Security Companies
[*] 3 (3) Sprawl Life

DATA
[1] List of businesses that de-linked
[2] Records of city council contract discussions
[3] Criminal activity reports
[4] Known local criminals
[5] A screamsheet on each local council member
[6] Recent business openings and closures
[7] Personal description of Daisy and her last known undercover work

WHAT DOES KARMA KNOW?
Using memory as well as comlink-matrix to research, Karmakaze goes over the data pack.

[1] List of businesses that de-linked
RESEARCH: Do any of these companies have ties to criminal organizations?
SKILL: 2 (4) Criminal Organizations / Seattle
ROLL: 4d6 = (2, 4, 1, 3) https://orokos.com/roll/965633
RESULT: 1 Success

[2] Records of city council contract discussions cross-referenced with [5] A screamsheet on each local council member
RESEARCH: Do any of these council discussions mention something that may have ties to criminal organizations? This will take some time to research
SKILL: 2 (4) Criminal Organizations / Seattle
ROLL: 4d6 = (5, 2, 5, 2) https://orokos.com/roll/965634
RESULT: 2 Successes

[3] Criminal activity reports cross-referenced with [4] Known local criminals
RESEARCH: Do any of these reports or participants have ties to known criminal organizations?
SKILL: 2 (4) Criminal Organizations / Seattle
ROLL: 4d6 = (1, 4, 5, 4) https://orokos.com/roll/965635
RESULT: 3 Successes

[4] Known local criminals
RESEARCH: Are any of these criminals known to Karmakaze?
SKILL: 4 (4) Criminal Justice System
ROLL: 4d6 = (3, 4, 4, 6) https://orokos.com/roll/965636
RESULT: 3 Successes

[5] A screamsheet on each local council member
RESEARCH: Do any of these council members have a record?
SKILL: 4 (4) Criminal Justice System
ROLL: 4d6 = (3, 1, 5, 6) https://orokos.com/roll/965637
RESULT: 2 Successes

RESEARCH: Do any of these council members have ties to criminal organizations? (Kind of a repeat of the second roll.)
SKILL: 2 (4) Criminal Organizations / Seattle
ROLL: 4d6 = (5, 2, 1, 4) https://orokos.com/roll/965638
RESULT: 2 Successes

[6] Recent business openings and closures (Kind of a repeat of the first roll.)
RESEARCH: Do any of these businesses have links to criminal organizations?
SKILL: 2 (4) Criminal Organizations / Seattle
ROLL: 4d6 = (5, 3, 6, 1) https://orokos.com/roll/965639
RESULT: 2 Successes

RESEARCH: Do any of the employees, management or ownership (or previous) have criminal records? This will take some time to research
SKILL: 4 (4) Criminal Justice System
ROLL: 4d6 = (6, 2, 3, 3) https://orokos.com/roll/965640
RESULT: 1 Success

[7] Personal description of Daisy and her last known undercover work
RESEARCH: Does Daisy match anyone in the criminal database (maybe as part of her fake ID)? This will take some time to research
SKILL: 4 (4) Criminal Justice System
ROLL: 4d6 = (2, 4, 4, 1) https://orokos.com/roll/965641
RESULT: 2 Successes

RESEARCH: Does Daisy match any police officer that Karmakaze may have known?
SKILL: 4 (6) Police Procedures / Seattle Lone Star This is the closest skill I could manage, but it can be cross-referenced with who she knows is on the force, and who is missing from their staff pictures.
ROLL: 6d6 = (1, 3, 6, 6, 6, 5) https://orokos.com/roll/965642
RESULT: 4 Successes

This would be much easier if we had a picture of Daisy.

These are also the same questions I am going to pass onto a decker.

I've been following the 3rd edition Smuggler Campaign run by Kren Cooper described in the thread of the same name under "Shadowrun". I noticed in the post last week that one of the characters summoned and then Freed a spirit. I asked about the mechanics, as I thought one could not do it in the way described. His direct answer to me was also posted in This Week's Post for his readers to see.

I told him I would go with whatever my sneaky GM directs, but thanked him for some ideas. As I would have thought, spending karma was key to getting a favourable outcome.

Oh wow! John Wick 4. Over the top and crazy. If When you see it, especially you Koekepan who have played with Quick Willie, the scene around the Arc of Triumph was MADE for him!

As an aside, I once entered the traffic circle around the Arc of Triumph on bicycle ... in winter. Only after eight lanes of incensed Frenchmen tried to kill me did I notice the signs forbidding bicycles.

1) Not substantial links. Nothing that goes beyond happening to be in nominal turf of some group or another.

2) Yeah, kind of. Construction is a notoriously corrupt field in the enclave, so implicitly any discussion of zoning, construction, development is going to have some kind of street angle. On the other hand, nobody is stupid enough to bang the table for anybody in these kinds of discussions.

3) It does look as if a group called the Students of Justice has been getting reported pretty hard in the area. They're a weird group that came up from a bunch of ideologically-driven students, a few decades ago, who wanted to redistribute the wealth by direct action, but just ended up being an unusually self-righteous group of gangsters. However, they've always been second-tier, and maybe this recent rash of reports and arrests will curtail their activities. Their turf was always around Fremont, Green Lake and University Village and that's where a lot of the recent developments have been.

4) Nope. Not her old stomping grounds, as much. Indirect connections and criminal associates, sometimes - but mostly it says that this is street-level stupid.

5) Yeah, sure they have records. Mostly pro forma arrests for various protests and similar actions. Nothing disqualifying for politics. There are suspicions of everything from embezzlement to murder, but nothing on which a prosecutor would hang a hat.

6) Not as far as you can tell, beyond the most fleeting or peripheral. This doesn't preclude an unlisted organisation from being involved, and no sufficiently large group of people is squeaky-clean. The scariest is a delivery service run by a couple of aging ex-go-gangers, but that's almost just a legitimate form of earlier smuggling activities.

7) No, and no. However, Karmakaze is well aware that she has probably been arrested several times and the records scrupulously purged.

All this thinking does lead to a different train of thought:

If there is another big organisation behind all this activity, they are unlisted, and it's incredible that an underground group of any size or power would be that invisible to the authorities - which means that if there is an organisation it must be ostensibly legitimate. This would, if true, also explain the lack of other signs of criminal weirdness in the area.

The two hearth domains are distinct, and Blue is pretty sure that summoning Sweez didn't nuke the first spirit.

Huh. I've been playing this game for over twenty years, and had not read that particular section of the rules carefully enough, until now.

Huh. Blue and I will have to wrap our heads around the possibilities.

I know, Koekepan, you like to throw a little colour into the appearance and manifestation of spirits. And I find that colour entertaining, too. So I'll wait till Sweez appears before I post IC.

Was there a reason to change that plan?

The reason is I misunderstood and screwed up. Sorry.

We could just say KK went to her place after dropping B off. That would be the least disruptive rewrite.

I figured they would stay together, since Karma is still acting as a body guard.

I can make it work if needed. Does Blue's place have a desk, pc and work area? Or maybe Blue just wants to pick up some items?

Well, kitchen table. And he has an Allegiance Sigma cyberterminal, and some basic software (see his character sheet), but he hasn't used it since the Mitsuhama raid for fear of it being traced. Why don't you have Karmakaze tell Blue that what he has is insufficient, and that they need to go to her place?

Blue would finish up his line of questioning with Sweez, and then they could head out.
