Who picked this colour scheme? The federation of the colour blind? It looks hooooorrible. The blue-green logo bites to but Paolo said somewhere that that would change in a week or so .. thank god ...

Not to mention the freakin' smiley fest going on ... that is one feature that will be set to no thanks ...

crap! that did only disable in post smileys not the other once at the start of topic headlines or whatever ... gahg!

On further inspection, the messages/input windows are aligned right of the last entry in the path shown in the blue bar.

I too find the colors much too drab, and the markers are too cluttered - it actually makes reading the forums boring(!) :-|

The non-default skin was PERFECT! It worked perfectly (for me at least) and the layout and color scheme were GREAT! And now it's gone... :(

Please, please pretty please bring the other skin back! I'd be eternally grateful...

Might not have been the best idea to have someone that is colour blind do the colours. Sort of why you don't let someone that can't spell write.

While I'm at it. Go back to using the old Quote system. It was better. I hate it that it says QUOTE in big bold letters. Gee what do I think the different coloured square is for?! It is sort of redudant.

I'm going to use the old way.

BTW the spellchecker screamed about this "I'm" it says it should be "i'm". I always thought the first one was the correct one. Native english speakers or someone that knows that can clearify this?

In "Favorite Drinking Games" some posts did not show up, even after forced refresh, and the post count in the Lounge showed an old number. Just after posting everything was correct again.

You know, comments like this one are not likely to generate a positive response from the admins. You might want to keep that in mind if you have changes that you'd like to have made. Constructive criticism is far more likely to get you the kind of response you want.

Can you try Safari and see if you're still having problems? I'll take a look on the wife's iBook later myself, but I'd like to get feedback from you as well.

This is the kind of polite crticism that we don't mind. :) I'm sure Paolo is seeing all the comments and will make any changes that he thinks are necessary.

I explained this in another thread, but it bears repeating. The skin that we're using is not just background and graphic changes, they go somewhat further than that and those changes were NOT present in the Invision skin. One example that leaps to mind is the purging of post counts in this skin. I will look into copying the code changes that we made for the Dumpshock skin into the Invision skin, but I don't know when I'll have time to work on it. Rest assured that we're not ignoring your concerns though, and please keep them coming.

There are a multitude of rendering problems with IE5.1 on MacOS 9. From looking just at the output, they appear to originate with whatever table follows the breadcrumb on any page.

I think if the grey were just changed to something like a really soft blue, alternating with perhaps an off-white, that would make the entire look of the forums more soothing and cheerful, while still being easy to read the posts.

For example, I think the light blue border looks very good, and the sort of marble-like dark blue bar at the top of every new topic looks awesome! But honestly the grey seems completely out of step with those colors.

Thank you for the added info, Ghost in our Machine - much obliged.

Also, I will add that SubRosa's color suggestions make alot of sense, and would probably make the entire thing more pleasurable.

As Adam said, there are multiple rendering problems with IE for mac - I just checked the site out in Netscape, and there everything is much more sensible.

Problems in IE 5 for mac (as I see them):

- The actual entries etc (grey boxes) are aligned with the end of the text in the blue menu, as if they were two separate tables.

- The various fields of the posts overlap each other to a certain degree - making for a very 'messy' look

- No matter the width of the window, there is still a scrollbar - certain tables (I haven't identified them yet) just stretch out when I resize the window, and so it covers the same information.

I hope that helps.

Also, I should add some pluses: The Netscape display (meaning the 'correct' default look isn't nearly as bad. I too love the bluemarbled bar - whatever you do, keep that! And thank you thank you thank you for looking into possibilities of adapting the Invision skin - if it doesn't work, ah well, but the effort is most appreciated! :notworthy: I know this is alot of work for you, and even if the end result will not be perfect for everyone, I'm sure it'll improve the forum quality overall.

The dividers are definatly better now. I think.

You should eliminate all the Black on Grey (the side bars Location, Target, Clickable Smilies). Black on dark grey is not very visible. Also, the Quote tag is black on grey. Cannot see it very well.

I'll second the moving My Controls to next to My Assistant

Oh, and the "Latest News" on the front page is very cool, now that I understand it.

Interesting how different the colors were from home and here. How many or what level of colors does the forum support/use?

And does the spell checker remember what I tell it to learn or what everyone tells it to (and should I limit how many words I add)?

Might not have been the best idea to have someone that is colour blind do the colours. Sort of why you don't let someone that can't spell write.

Actually, it's a better method of making sure you get colours that don't have the same light/dark value, and enough contrast between the text and background that it will be actually readable.

Many professional trademarkers (aka, the people who design logos for companies) begin in black and white, and add colour after they have a design that is good.

And don't forget, the person who did up the colour scheme had to get it approved by the other admins. (There was also a rather lengthy test period with phpbb with the EXACT colour scheme in place, yet you made no mention of your distaste of it then.)

I find it infinitely amusing that the admin who did up the colour scheme has also been doing MANY other Dumpshock site colour schemes since it first opened. You are the first to make such a callous and uninformed comment.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm returning my attention to those who can make comments without being insulting.

re colours being different: Have you cheked monitor calibration? We've only the one setup of colours, so they should be the same no matter the computer you are at.

re spell checker: No idea. It's as new to us as you. If you break it tho, I'll drop you in the Rabid Woodchuck pen.

Might just be on my end then. At home I have an older monitor, and while the greys seem very close, the blue background is very bright at home... unless you were playing with the settings Friday night.

All right. I added the word FYI to mine, and it no longer marks it bad. Does it check it as misspelled on yours?

Excellent! Every person has a unique spell checker file. Watch out admins; those files might end up huge in no time at all. Adding plurals, cities, NANs, critters, abbreviations... for every user!

OR, I could be talking out of my bung hole.

Heh, bung is a word :spin:

[edit] How long do we have to edit?

Um. I don't know if putting the "Report" button next to the "Quote" button is a good idea. I'm too scared to press the button and find out if there is another step so one can cancel out...

Clicking the Report button just gives you a type of Post page which, I assume goes straight to the Moderators. :)

There is a very large space between the EDIT tag and the SIG tag. Or is it just me?

I thought it would show up between the original post and the edited text, but I see why that won't work.

[edit (for a reason)]
And can I have the forum remember the setting on the edit option (i.e. always leave a tag for me)?

Actually, every word that you add goes into a persistent cookie on your browser. The spell checker is not an integrated part of Invision, it's a mod that is hacked in after the fact, and we haven't looked at it's code much at all. I'm afraid that what you see is what you get, but it's better than nothing.

The spell checker is fine, actually. Works as well as the last one with less chance of destroying one's post.

So, the "learn" puts it on my computer... very cool.

Other than the capitalization issue, the checker works; give the /coder/ my thanks.

Just to complain... the Post, Preview, and Cancel buttons should go next the spell check one! :P

Do the different fonts function properly?

I love answering my own questions.

I doubt it was that much ruder then what a lot of other people wrote. I'm hardly alone in feeling the the colour selection is awful to say the least.

I barely even looked at the test thing. I might have looked at it once or twice at the most and I can say that I felt it looked awful then to. But I assumed since it was a test that someone wouldn't allow such a colour selection to stick or that I would be able to change it into something better since it was supposed to be skinable.
