The license itself is ok as a license, yes. However, the blanket releasing of all of one's posts under it (by the by, thanks to all the admins for not including one of the annoying "everything posted becomes our property" clauses that seem to be so popular on forums) is something that ought to be considered carefully.

Well I tend to consider that this forum being a public place readable for everyone, it would be fair use to copy the content of anyone post, as long as it is unmodified in its intended meaning and that the author is given credit.
However, the principle of a wiki is that the content is freely modifiable, this is why I think he must give his agreement.
But also keep in mind that you stay the author of your post in the forum archive. If you accept to distribute it under the GNU FDL, you still have the right to use it in any way you want, to publish it or whatever...

I received permission to absorb Wordman's The Sixth World into the Shadowrun Wiki. I started figuring out how I want to set it up today, and will probably get around to it this week.

@ BIG BAD yes, wiki is from the Hawai'ian language and means basically 'quickly or hurry up'. Usually used twice for emphasis "wiki wiki".

Wordman's stuff is top notch, and would be great for the wiki. Howeverm wordman's year-by-year population graph doesn't coincide with SR3. In the getting to know you section at the begining of the SR3 the troll states that trolls are "Still pretty rare" whereas Wordman's graph shows them being as common as dirt. Anywho, that's pretty minor, as he did a lot of work for it, and followed through with what the developers *said* about how the races came to be. Nevermind that the numbers are different.

I'm having a hangup involving the flags and maps. It seems that image uploading for the wiki is disabled, and I've had trouble contacting Adam so far about it. I tried sending him e-mail on Friday and a forum PM yesterday about this and 2 other issues.

Import of Wordman's stuff will be on hold until this is resolved.

Edit: Not so much on hold as half-finished. Sticking the text in is doable as I get time.

If you are going to enable the image upload, are you going to add the corporate logos and flags recently displayed on the shadowrunrpg.com page? I believe they can be used as long as there's the WizKids copyright notice, which SixthWorld Wiki already follows. (if not, it should)

I'm totally swamped at work, and have barely had time to add most of the text. (5 countries in Europe, plus Space, and I should be done!) The only reason that's even a priority is because Nath has been writing his own entries for Europe and I don't want to have to merge them in after the fact. I've got a major milestone in mid-October and my acticity will probably drop until then, once I've got most of Wordman's stuff in place.

Image uploads are enabled, but do we need them? If they're all listed on the shadowrunrpg.com page, do we have permission to link to them externally? It'd save us the bother of having to create a non-hierarchical naming scheme and upload them, if we could just link to their copy of it.

I'd recommend trying it out on a couple of corps, and if it turns out well, do the rest. I personally won't be able to get to it for weeks.

Wouldn't the Community Projects forum be a better place for this thread?

My local gaming group have been using a Wiki for our personal game site (In fact I just finished help update the site to PMWiki 2 Development version). Once you get the hang of it, Wiki is great.

Now only if I had something to contribute...

Oh well, just in case someone finds an interesting post of mine and wishes to post it on the Wiki:

I agree to let all my past contributions on forums.dumpshock.com be published in the wiki located at wiki.dumpshock.com. I understand that it will published under the GNU Free Documentation License. I have read this license and accepted its terms.

Please note that the intent was for Sixth World Wiki to be an OOC resource about the Sixth World, not an in-game Shadowland posting resource. It's about the world, but it's not in the world.

I think he was just making a play on his name, but it's good to point out regardless.

Though Wordman's the Sixth World is a great resource for countries around the world, alot of info is outdated. Especially the info about Europe outdated or simply wrong. I would suggest posting info from Shadows of Europe (I made start with the United Netherlands).

With regard to content, is it permissible to add our own non-canon material, so long as it doesn't conflict with any sourcebook? In particular, I'm thinking about adding material from this post about music genres in 2063.

Sorry Adam, I misunderstood. I can't seem to go in and delete it though, so feel free. Sorry again.

The plan was, for the time being, to keep things canon, and in the future, very clearly mark and segregate non-canon things.

Shadow: anyone can edit any page, so you shouldn't have a problem going back and deleting it . . .
