PsyAdept - way of the magican. When you buy a point in this and then remove it. the spell points stay in the spells tab. In tangent on closeing the program the data dose not clear from the program. I'll go to start a new char and have to go foward and unspend points.

I`m a great Fan of your Character Generator, and i used it for nearly every character i created for SR3. I am also a great Fan of Shadowrun 4 and so i would like to see the NSRCG with SR4 rules. Is there any possibility that we will become a NRSCG4?

Mcmackie has stated that he isnt going to make a 4ed generator, he is willing to give others the source code so they can make one.

This is mostly true. I've been beset by RL (Real Life) and find free time hard to allocate to this project. I've made the code available to people who ask for it correctly (stated on my webpage).... a "hey dude, give me" will not work. I've posted a poll that should make clear what I need. Given the changes to chargen for SR4, there is is almost no code to salvage to create the SR4 version. I've had nobody step us as willing to help in programming (lots of people who can work on DAT files, thank you!). If I started this, it would take some time to even program it. So my question is simple, is there any real demand for it? Also, I've posted the most current version to my website that includes high/low level campaign rules. This was already posted in these pages but many people may not have seen them or realized that they could directly link/download from here. P.S. I've lost track of bugs (been out of it). Could you repost any bugs that still persist with this version (3.69). Some of them seem to be from prior versions. For those you good enough to post the version number with the bug report (thank you :) ) |

Hi there, i like this program, it is making my life so much simpler.
One question i have at the moment thoght is after you have finalized a character, and then added some karma, how do you spend the karma to increase an attribute? I can see how you can spend karma to update skills, but i cant see how the attributes work. Am i missing something simple, or do you have to turn off the rules and manually calculate and deduct the specific amounts of karma? The characters i am using are all built using the priority method. Regards Juzzman |

As I've done it, when you go to Attributes, you have the left and right arrows, just like when you were increasing/decreasing them. Taht is how you should do it here as well, and it should tell you if you don't have enough Karma.

Some Bugs
In 369 Combat Sense Adept Power Purchasing a new level of the power, say from 1->2, increments the combat pool bonus dice by the new level rather than the new level less the old level. MNE flag When you have a character open that possesses an mnemonic enhancer and then load another character without such an augmentation, the effect remains. The newly loaded character gets the cheaper prices for skills. I have not tested this with the cognition metamagic. I have other troubles with the MNE flag and version 368 where seems the effect seems to vanish from the character, such that I had to create a 0 cost bit of gear to reapply the MNE flag, but I have not noticed how to repeat that one. Fiddling with the char file to repair the damage from before I noticed it has been informative. In that line, were there any dat file changes between 368 and 369? (I use modified gear files and am leery of attempting to merge them.) Thanks for building it anyway. Very handy. |

Thanks for the tip. I found that it worked on the version i had at work, but not in the main version i use at home. I removed and re-installed the program at home, and now they both work. Thanks for the pointer Mate Juzzzman |

I'm having a problem with v 3.69. I can't figure out how to edit the build points for points creation system. It says "Default High/Low points set in NSCRG.DAT in DAT directory. Opening up the "data" directory under NSCRG, it gives the options of adept, bioware, contacts, cyber, deck, edge, gear, magegear, spells and vehicles.
Am I missing something? |

Actually, never mind. I Just got it. Thanks, though.
My .dat files were listed as vcd wrapper files. I just opened them with notepad, though, and it let it happen. No biggie. Although....why /are/ they listed as VCD wrapper files? That's sorta confusing. |

Because .dat is a ridiculously common extension, and some applications (like VCD) claim it as their own.
It's a good reason to avoid .dat where possible. Avoiding extensions would be even better, but if what you're putting in it is plaintext, just use .txt. ~J |

Yeah, I thought of using a simple txt extension but didn't want people routinely hacking the files... this keeps the hackers out. Besides by now, many people refer to the ability to "edit the DAT files". In effect, a defacto standard that I would have difficulty changing. I wanted it more complex without making it so hard that people couldn't modify if they wanted to... New version posted (same 3.69 but different compile date)... should fix the MNE flag but and others... Additionally, many people were unable to comprehand how to edit an INI file so I put the ability to change the default build points again. Let me know how it works out. :sleepy: |

Thanks because we hated the default high/low stuff. We do a lot of tailored gaming, that requires some different levels of points on a regular basis.

What are the chances of making a "super simple" CharSheet? Like ascii based,
no tables or graphix, kinda like MechDesigner had a simple mech record sheet? A way to auto-fill one of the official SR3 sheets? Are you not supplying the source code, for the app anymore? |

Any chance of an override cost option for things other than gear, such as foci, vehicles and decks?

I am having a problem with the biography section in the XML character sheet not displaying properly. All of the information runs together into one big text block. Is there any way to fix this. It is happening with the latest version of NSRCG 3.69 3/22/06 for Windows 98 and XP.

Is McMackie no longer supporting the program? I just recently got a new pc and unfortunately have no install version on my old one. I went to his website it does not load. Plus the fact that nobody has posted in this thread for almost a year as I just noticed...

Thanks for the file Warrior_allanon.
I really hope someone can help me with THIS now: :P However, it does not work on Vista. Unless I install it the old way in safe mode perhaps? I don't know. I can't figure out how to do that on this OS right now.. Right now I get an error that says: Run-Time error '339': Conponent 'comdlg32.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid This is version 3.69, installed normally on Vista through the setup. During the installation it did open up a window stating that one of the files in the installation was older than what I currently had, and I naturally kept the newer file. The rest of the installation works fine, but trying to start the program and start Character making makes that error above pop up. |

I realise that this thread might be long dead with the release of 4th Edition and all, but I would once again like to thank the good Sir McMackie for the best damned character generator I've used.
We had a change of guard and a few newbies...within 20 minutes they were cranking out characters. I have never seen that done before. Again, Thank you for such a valuable resource. Tir. (Now, if only the Allied spirit thingy was finished (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grinbig.gif) ) |

I had some verteran players building characters with this last night, and they were all being very impressed with how smoothly it worked, so thank you muchly for that!
However, I've had some weirdness happen. After saving a file, NSRCG can see it - I can load it, edit it, etc. But Windows 7 won't see it. I can't copy it, attach it to an email, I can't even see it in windows explorer. Any ideas? Given how old the last post is I didn't bother reading the thread, so forgive me if there's somethign burried in there. |

yeah, that is normal since windows vista . . look up virtual storage or something like that . .
look into the program itself and watch where, exactly, the save path is going . . |
