For the miniguns, theres a spinup time until you hit the full rate of fire, but the start shooting as soo as you pull the trigger. IIRC the M61 (20mm cannon used on US aircraft) has fully spun in in around .4 seconds during which time it will have fired around 20 or 30 rounds.

20-30? If it really fires that many times while spinning up, then you really can pretty much ignore it, because during the first ½ second of fire you're already getting 30-40 rounds. I ran some numbers back in this thread and ended up with 10 in the first 0.4 seconds, but I just used a progression which looked nice.

The main thing, though, is that you'd get more rounds out of the M61 Vulcan in 1 second after depressing the trigger/fire key than you'll get out of any minigun that's already spinned up to speed in SR in a full CT.

Ares alpha (so good you wouldn’t use anything else). 2 points integral, shock pads, customised grip gas vent 4. Ok 2 points left. We can load tracers every 5 rounds and solve that little problem.

Edward, mon ami, I feel great shame in you resorting to tracers, strength 6 and 9 round bursts no recoil whatsoever

To Average Joe Rentacop, how much deadlier is an assault rifle firing full auto without recoil mods than a heavy pistol without recoil mods?

Well, it's not all that much, but you can shoot multiple Joes in one action with the AR.

Hi omae!
My question is slightly off topic -
Excerption from "Lone Star"
QUOTE
6PAK - A colt rip-off og GE's Vindicator design - Six rotating barrels, hence the name, and almost identical performance. Fragging lethal

- Rip-off? It's short barreled, or something?!
- Where I can find the stats?
- Is it concealable?
EDIT: I've checked dictionary one more time - "rip-off" - expensive version? It has gold trigger 8) , or what?!

Basically means they stole the design and used it as their own.

Okay, after reading some of the comments, I guess I've been convinced :o) But I'd still only allow 1 point to count from strength since that's factored in already (two arms for a two handed weapon, so using it one handed generates a +2). So I guess two gyromounts in arms with STR 6 would be 5RC. Perhaps.

Gryomounts, as in the cyberarm ones, require a simple action to extend from the arm and activate, so I guess it does have a small spin up time.

As miniguns don't have a spin up time, does anyone think removing that rule would be especially harmful?

Maybe do something funky like declaring that miniguns fire seven rounds on a cold fire.

...better not comment, since the question is explicitly not about realism but about game balance. I wouldn't know, I haven't run a canon game of SR ever.

I like limiting such weapons in other ways, ways in which they are limited IRL. IRL, miniguns will absolutely tear apart any human beings in the area where they're fired at -- firing 6000rpm at a 10' x 10' area, that's 1 bullet per square foot per second. Yet I'm willing to bet you've never heard of criminals, terrorists or policemen, indeed anyone but the armed forces of certain nations, using miniguns. They're rare, very expensive, bulky, useless in most tactical situations, high-maintenance, etc.

Keeping those things in mind, I've no problems with allowing miniguns to kill people dead when (or if) someone actually gets his hands on one and can use it.

Especially since comping it is an absolute nightmare also.
