Don't know about world wide, but I personally play or have played with around 40 people. But how many of them still play, I can only vouch for about 15 currently.

I used to have a stable of four players, but we all separated and haven't seen each other so no gaming in almost two years.

I have personally had over 70 gamers in my games at one time or another. I seem to have a entire new group every couple of years.
