Are SRM characters allowed to do the same adventure more than one time ?

I got this question from a player who did one SRM adventure, whose team didn't even proceed half way through the adventure before time was running out. Are they allowed to give it another try ?

What's the official policy on that ?

The official policy is: NO

Unofficially, it depends on the situation. If you are a GM and you happen to run a table full of complete jerkoffs (hey, it happens) and there is one player that unfortunately got stuck at that table and is really trying hard, but the rest just goof off or otherwise aren't playing the game, but rather talking about other stuff, and as a result they only get halfway through the adventure (and this is taking into account that the GM has tried to keep / get them back on track, has shortened encounters already, etc) before time is up, then i don't think that the good player should be penalized. I would just explain to them what happened and not give them a log sheet (since the log sheet shows some clues about the adventure). Of course, the player really should have excused themselves from that table halfway through the session or earlier if s/he saw nothing was getting done.

It is all situational, so it is hard to make that call, which is why officially the answer is NO.

If you played the mission and didn't finish it because your team "screwed the pooch" and got your butts kicked, and the person you were extracting gets killed, or you loose the datafile you were supposed to get through your own stupidity or carelessness, then DEFINITELY NO. :wobble:

Heck, this deserves a seperete sub-forum, since Dog-knows when the CLUE files will be updated again.

OT: I hope they will be updated soon. My family and another family went camping not too long ago, and to entertain people in the yert I told some of the stories from the CLUE files. These are people who have never, ever played role playing games, and may never play them in the future. But, they still found the stories to be a complete laugh riot.

What about GM's? Are they forbidden from participating in adventures that they've ran?

First, it's not really a controllable issue. If a GM who has run "Demolition Run" now want's to play it, you can't stop him from doing so, if he doesn't tell you.

Of course, one should be able to seperate player knowledge from character knowledge, which in this case would be kinda difficult.

But I'd say: As long as he can make that seperation of knowledge, let him have a go at it.

Any official policy on that one ?

A much more interesting issue comes to mind: How about players playing an adventure that they have written themselves ...

Linei, as always, brings up the crux of the issue...

Technically, GMs and writers are not supposed to play adventures that they have run/written.

For GMs, if they're lucky, they are near another GM and can take turns running adventures for each other so that no one has to miss out on ALL the adventures, and just "eats" some of them.

With that being said, I think I will risk saying that I think Shadowrun players are cut from a more mature cloth than some other games out there, and are devoted to the game enough to make that distinction between player/character knowledge enough to play the adventures.

When it comes down to it, if people can't play SR Missions because the GM is afraid he can't play them also, then I'm going to look the other way and let him play the adventure with a different group rather than deny a bunch of players being able to play...

Ideally though, i'd like to see GMs attend conventions or game days or even a second gaming group that they can play the adventure as a player first, and then go to their regular gaming group to GM it. Playing it first will also give the GM a little insight as to how certain scenarios can be run when he's reviewing the text later...

Is that "Kerry" (ie wishy-washy) enough of an answer for you?? :P
