Ok, long story made short :

One of my players' characters got addicted to Kamikaze a few months ago, and his tolerance keeps going up. He just lost his first point of body and tried to quit, but didn't have the Willpower to try (at addiction rating of 10 now, needed a 13). He also requires 5 times the normal dose to "get his fix".

Now at what point should I have him overdose. What I was bouncing around in my head is if the number of doses is higher than the character's body, he overdoses. (So far the character has had a body of 6, now 5) If this seems good, what do I do when he actually does it? Damage resistance test? Against what numbers/what damage? Do I just send his ass to the hospital and RP it out?

RP it out, definitely. With Kamikaze, the effect will probably be similar to a D wound, but possibly messier.

The overdosing rules in MM suggest 1 box of damage for every body doses. This was intended to represent excessive doses of toxins but it works well hear as well.

In this case I would have the character make a body (edge rating) test every time he takes (body) doses or take 1 box of physical damage. This wont be much of a problem yet but when he needs 8 doses to get an effect and only has 2 body that will pretty much mean he is living on 3 boxes of physical.

It also lines up with my understanding that addicts rarely overdose to a lethal extent unless they take multiple doses (modified for effect) in a short time or misjudge what a dose is (get an unusually strong batch).

Heh, but with the pain resistance from the kamikaze, he won't be able to tell that he's living on 3 boxes of physical (at least the first time).

Of course, with a fix factor of 2 days, he's doing this stuff at least 5 times in the space it would take that moderate 'wound' to heal...I like.

And it wouldn’t be able to start healing until the drug had run its corse.

Perhaps body adicivnes rating would be better. I don’t know use whatever target number works.

He lost a point of body, that -IS- an overdose in SR game terms.

EDIT: IRL not every OD kills. Junkies can have a few of them before kicking off. What that PC just did was 'hit bottom'. He has done the equivalent of realising that he has a problem.
