Well, I guess I was wrong. Not the first and will most likely will not be the last. Looks like I need to do more research. Thanks for the info.

The reason why certain bullet types were called "cop killers" is that some moron though they penetrated body armor. In reality, the bullets were indeed expanding, as are nearly all combat handgun loads outside of the military, and were never shown to penetrate body armor any better than other types of expanding handgun rounds. The size of the exit wound isn't all that important, of course, compared to the actual hole it makes inside the body -- and the point of an expanding bullet is that instead of a .45" diameter hole you make a 0.86" hole. [Edit]Darn, my bad. The history of the term "Cop Killers" is different, the original rounds called that did indeed have a hard penetrating core and were not expanding. Expanding rounds (like the Winchester Black Talon) picked up the same monicker only later. See the article linked in the later message.[/Edit] This post has been edited by Austere Emancipator: Dec 8 2004, 09:55 PM |

Hey, it's the future. Who knows what new crazyness they've developed, even if it bucks things like modern trends or even, say, physics.
Look over there! It's magic! And over there, it's an abstract combat system! While I personally have a keen interest in firearms, I play my own Shadowrun game without even trying to figure in caliber. It's just such a hassle. Not that I'm saying you all aren't pursuing some very interesting and fine points here. Merely interjecting my own point of view with worrying about applying such things to Shadowrun. And, should I go about trying to make things more realistic, well, that's why God invented Raygun. :grinbig: |
