I've been working on a Space Opera conversion of ShadowRun for a while now, and since we're into our third campaign of it around here, I figure it's sufficiently complete for a more public dispersal. Basically, I just took ShadowRun, ripped out the magic stuff and the put back in more strictly sci-fi material. There is now a fairly well developed universe for it that I've created out of a mish-mash of different sci-fi sources and my own imagination, but it's been deliberately left fairly open for other people to run campaigns without conflicts and for new stuff to be constantly plugged in.
All the information that I've got online is located at the Pimps in Space website. There is some material that I haven't posted, mostly stats on Covenant (ie. Halo) creatures and Zerg (ie. Starcraft) creatures. Those are for my campaigns. Plus there's all the huge gaps to be filled in at some point. So I'm posting this just to throw it out if anybody is interested, and to try and gather some feedback about it all. If anybody has had some similar experience with SR conversions, or just thought about it. |

Vogon poetry: 18M not reduced by armor. In poetry appreciation chairs, the damage code rises to 23S. Being unable to understand the language reduces the power by half. The reader rolls poetry (Vogon) and the victim's intelligence against a TN determined by the length of the poetry (longer is easier). It is resisted by willpower.

Am I the only gamer out there who likes Ion cannons out of Star Wars?
Every Star Wars RPG group I've gamed with gave me strange looks like I was crazy whenever I suggested having ion cannons installed on the ship. Ion cannons are stun guns of space weaponry. Like having a Yamaha Pulsar on starship! You can shot anyone and fuck them up despite all their shields, and run away laughing at your rivals/enemies or be able to shot at the cops/space patrol/military to escape and not have them after you for assualt/murder. |

Why stop at running away? If they're disabled, roll out the marines and grapnels, it's boarding party time! :)

Not sure if it's Shadowrun anymore but I like it. That's awsome. I'd go with the a traveler type of game or Gurps Transhuman space.

Ha! Vogon poetry! That's awesome. Well, as far as HG stuff goes, the only thing that's appeared so far was a melancholic AI. :D
I also like Ion cannons, though I haven't worked out rules for them yet. Probably just going to go with high power, low damage code, and additional vehicle damage modifiers that slowly wear off. Relatedly, shields have also proven to be something of a nuisance in working into ShadowRun vehicle rules. I'm debating between two systems: The first is simple, but perhaps awkward. Shields add their rating as armor to the vehicle, but if an attack penetrates with enough to inflict moderate damage, the shields pop and no longer apply their bonus. The other system is to basically give shielded vehicles a second condition monitor that represents their shields, with the shield rating acting as armor and the vehicle rolling body/bulwark as normal. No damage penalties until the shield is destroyed and the damage hits the vehicle proper. Fortunately for me (as a GM), I've limited the implementation of shields. So only the Covenant, the Protoss, the very rich, and miscellaneous have shields. It is and it isn't ShadowRun, but it lends itself to the more out-there style of shadowrun rather than the more typical professional criminals style that is ShadowRun's bread and butter. Most of our campaigns have used a military setting so far, either as mercenaries or special forces. There was one stillborn campaign revolving around a group of prospectors in a scout ship they coined "The Drunk Tank." SR3 worked out surprisingly well for mechanics once psionics and phenotyping replaced the magic elements, so our group uses our huge pile of SR books instead of investing in a new system. :) |

It's small r for Shadowrun. Which is amusing since you seem to spell it right half the time. :)

It's a carry-over from just as often using the abbreviation SR as spelling it out. I just think 'shadowrun' and it comes out in one of its forms. Sometimes as both. :) |

We shot a TIE with an ion cannon that had been ripped from a capital ship once. I, as the GM, and the players agreed that the fighter was disabled, no rolls needed. But then we started to wonder...exactly how bad did we overkill that thing? Well, somebody dug up some physics books and the radiation rules from GURPS:Space (best sci-fi RPG supplement ever), and we found out that not only would the pilot have to be buried in an envelope, it'd have to be a lead envelope. Fun stuff :D. |

Nice to see other making space opera material. For a while now I've been running my own "Awakened Worlds" campaign.
Humans are similar to the ALIENS universe (yes, there are Aliens and the Colonial Marnines...). The other races are the alien civilisations with varying technology and political climates. Maybe one day I'll chuck it all on the web...it's all in lush looking Powerpoint at the moment. |
