Hi all I just am curious on any other GM's that ran Brainscan and ask opinions of Brainscans final run of forcing cyberware on the players.I myself am a little thrilled about it and am in anticipation of it and looking forward to chopping my players up with an alphaware datajack, however, i am unsure if i should make it beta just for the sake of having some betaware on some of the players.I cant wait till the mage in the group wakes up with ware on his head. What are some of your thoughts on this very notion of forcing cyberware on some players from that run?

Easily the single most hated part of Brainscan among players, right there. They hate the idea of having their characters forced or railroaded...and the addition of cyberware can be such an invasive procedure. Like raping a little bit of someone's soul.
I've seen it turn out well. A mage or no-cyber type gets a little haunted, and deals with it somehow (magicians are actually the lucky ones, a little geas makes them interesting...even if they want to be Pristine Uberelf Mage or somethign.) Some learn to deal with it, some rant at the GM until they remove it. Most of the time, I've seen GMs pussy out and not go through with it. Not at my table, folks. You come for da ride, you gonna pay de price. :vegm: |

Honestly, I think more things should result in the forced implantation of cyberware.

Honestly, I'm thinking that maybe they should have not resorted to such nonsense, and let the non-deckers fight off hoards of Blues while the deckers/Otaku deal with Deus.

But if the team has one decker, is he going to have a lot of chance against Deus?

I know if I were a decker and I was just a cog in a group of NPCs I'd be a bit miffed. I prefer to have the PCs in the limelight as much as possible.
But I haven't read all of Brainscan, much less run it. So I'm proably not a good source for this particular topic. :) |

Well, between the PC decker and the umpteen Otaku and wanker NPCs *cough*Dodger*cough*, I think the Matrix battle's pretty well covered.

As a player I don’t dislike the idea when done well. I haven’t goten that far yet but from what I have heard the logic behind it is solid. I don’t think it is the kind of thing that should happen often but I am looking forward to it. Of cause I did have to change my character a little bit when I heard brain scan was a probability for the campaign, don’t want bio rejection.
My character is however one of those (semi) purist mages and will be very upset but I will be having fin. The hard part will be fighting my GM of afterwards when he tries to convince me to fill up that point of essence. I probably will eventually. But I won’t be doing it fast. Edward |

Did I also mention that if Deus is going to implant anything into anyone, it may as well count as Beta or Delta eqv.?
And mfb's right, except for the part where he also needed to have his windpipe removed and spine crushed and be left for the devil rats--preferably right next to Dodger's dead bloating corpse. If I hadn't already known that Jason, Brian and Dave--especially Dave--can and have done better, I'd hate BS. |

If you are a nice GM, you could give them some more cyber. Datajack, chipjack, knowsoft link, and math SPU 1 is almost manditory when I make a cybered PC, so maybe show your players the joys of that combo. If you're even nicer, give it beta or delta
If you are a nasty GM, give them useless cyber worth 1.01 E Even if you don't deck, the math SPU has so many other functions it is worth the .1 E. Clock, timer, and being able to ask the GM to pass you a calculator, because you *do* have one built into your head!! |

I think anything Deus implants should be at least Beta. |

I didn't like that part of Brainscan. Mainly because we didn't write it, and because it took our whole (in my opinion, cooler) idea of the final fight and turned it into a crazy UV fairy tale with onis and crap.
Ah well. But, that said, I don't dislike it because it's cruel to the PCs. Hell, if the PCs are whining because they got a datajack installed in them, then you're not playing the Arcology right. A datajack should be the least of their concerns. ;) |

It's the other 4 datahacks they couldn't immediately see when looking int he mirror that are more amusing. ;) :vegm:

Bitch had it comin', yo. "Blah blah blah this place is secure, blah blah blah we'll tell you what we think you need to know, blah blah blah aaiigh we're under attack by Blues when you're in your street clothes and half of you have no guns, and it's all my fault! Save me, save me!" |

Most characters have a datajack. If they dont, they just got an alphaware one for free, along with all its benefits. And any magical characters now have liscense to get 0.8 pts *more* of cyber/bio before theyre further hit. They may initially dislike this but seriously, give it a bit of time and itll turn around.
As for the final area of that moduel, I rather didnt like the dues ex machina action. The players should be the holders of destiny at the end of a long adventure, having the flavor text finish it for them is weak. Ymmv |

It's funny because it seems so out of character from an outsider's perspective that half the team had no guns. Of course, I'm one to talk. I had a PC inside when the Arc shut down. He was asphyxiated even after the GM (not Dave) warned me. Twice. |

Yep, I am. The original idea of Brainscan was my pitch, and I wrote the Revelations and Outside Influence chapters. Though really, the whole thing was a very collaborative effort, so there's bits of other peoples' ideas in my chapters and bits of my ideas in the other chapters. But it was also my first writing project with FASA, and Dave's second, so there was some heavy editing attention put on it. In some places, for good, in others, for bad, in my opinion. Anyway, the original ending had a physical fight and a Matrix fight happening simultaneously. While the deckers were inside the SCIRE, the physical characters in the PCs' group had to escort another team of deckers to the roof of the Arcology, so a connection to the outside world could be setup and Megaera could be let in. That part also included the PCs using micro-parachutes to parachute down the elevator shafts of the Arcology afterwards, which I always thought was a cool touch that got cut. 8) |
