I have one elf character. Female, used to be a meat puppet. Kinda messed in the head when it comes to intimacy in general, so I wouldn't say she's necessarily bi. She kinda hates everyone equally.

... but especially men. I can see that.

QUOTE (Aes)
I dunno with you, but our GM has the Ork underground playing quite a big role in our Seattle-based game. (What with it being the way to move unseen around town). The one elven PC I ever played got picked on a LOT down there, compared to the two humans and the dwarf who were also in the group. And the PC was goddamn near tarred and feathered on account of pointy ears the one run we had that was near the CalFree/Tir border :P

If there's not enough anti-elf (or indeed anti-human in meta-dominated areas) racism in your game, the guilt should fall squarely on the GM and players, not what the material makes possible.

QUOTE

None of this really hits any of the points I was making. I wasn't saying that elves don't get racism, I was saying that canon makes them actually better than the other metatypes. People on these threads always tend to leap straight to "blame your GM and players," and never consider that maybe canon IS to blame, because other (playable) races don't get long lifespans, don't get to be immortal uber-magicians, and don't get their own powerful nations (I don't put the Ork Underground in the same league as the Tirs). My beef is that way more attention seems to get focused on elves than on the other metatypes. There aren't any location sourcebooks about Ork, Troll, or Dwarf nations, but the elves get two. I haven't really had that big a problem with elves in my games (which pains me to say, because I DO have an irrational hatred of elves dating back to my D&D days, like someone described above); I'd just like to see the focus of the game be more equally applied and have canon stop telling us that elves ARE superior, and racism against them should stem from that. I was happy when 3rd edition made elves take a higher priority assignment than dwarves and trolls, but I think the better solution would have been to give them drawbacks to balance out all the advantages they get (and here I don't count racism as a drawback, because it applies to all the metahumans, and is probably a lot MORE of a drawback to the non-elf metatypes).

lets not forget Baron Munchousen!

Nono, that one was a Prussian. A *small* Prussian, but a human prussian nonetheless.

On a slightly related note, there are human tribes (Kimil in Papua New Guinea) who are dwarf-sized (as in, 1.30 to 1.40 meters) naturally. also, there once was Homo foresiensis, whcih was gnome-sized. And the Gigantopithecus could well have been troll-sized and -shaped ... hehe.

No kidding.

Anyway, I may as well add my own two cents since otherwise my presence is completely OT. I think this topic is ridiculous. It serves no purpose other than fueling a mind-numbingly boring and juvenile contest of people yelling, "elves sucks!," "Do not!" for the last 70-odd posts.

Elves are a race. They can be played however you like, or not at all. It's you game, and frankly I don't care what your person opinion of elves are because it doesn't do me any good to know that some dude out on the Internet has a mad hate-on for them. Good for you.

None the less, I applaud you dwarven efforts. You can never have too many dwarves; Willow, The Wizard of Oz, and Willy Wonka taught me that.

...Uh...

...Those -were- dwarves, right?

Oh hell no, over my dead body, over your dead body.

In Willow they were Halflings.

In Willy Wonka and Wiz 'o' Oz they were Fey kin, Brownies and such.

Time Bandits, yeah, those were probably Dwarves.

*sigh* You guys don't know your hobbits.

In Willow they were Nelwyns. In Wizard of Oz they were munchkins and in Willy Wonka they were oompla-loompas.

Of course, I suppose it feeds back into the simply fact that no great fantasy story is complete without someone who's 3 feet tall and has hairy feet.

It's a small world after all...

I wonder if Virtual Disney has a Small World ride and if they updated it to include metahuman races...

That would be cool. And I think Disney should have rereleased Snow White so she's a poor human maiden, where her evil stepsisters are elves... That would so SR. :rotfl: Insitutionalized metahatred from 5yrs on up... I think I'm going to bring up Disney stuff in my next game, just somewhere in the background. Is there anything anywhere about if Disney is still around and who owns them now?

I think you are confusing Snow White with Cinderella. :) Although I'm sure MOM and dwarves in general would protest the erroneous portrayal of Dwarves in Snow White. The only big mention of Virtual Disney (other than passing references here or there) was in the CalFree sourcebook. In general, I would think that Virtual Disney would go for whatever gives them the most profits, which might or might not be a message of tolerance and acceptance.

I agree with Smiley and Fortune. Though I see the logic in the staggered costs, it doesn't sit well with me.

I feel I have something substantive to add to this thread.

Ehrem. Here goes:

Ha! Poncy elves!

My work here is finished.

Not that I have anything against elves, mind you. I just enjoy pointing out their propensity for poncy.

And Dwarves are the ony ones that get an overall +4 to Attributes.

Other than that, they all work out pretty evenly. They all have some advantage over the other races.

Don't forget that dwarves are little, and are fun to trip and laugh at. I'm not sure if it has any statistical relevence here, but it's definitely great to keep in mind.
