Again: Nanocomputing makes biocomputing obsolete.

See the last few episodes of Stand Alone Complex's first season for a very good depiction of heavy armored suits used as urban, special operations tanks.

Man, that was the shiznit. The whole hotel battle was just beautiful.

How about not posting spoilers for episodes of a series that are not legally available in the US yet, nor aired here. Thanks.

I totally dispute whether nanocomputing would actually make biocomputing obsolete.

Jeez, some people actually do speak Japanese ... and it's not like that post gave anything about the plot away anyway. Are copyright laws really that strict?

Other than being all l33t living computers stuff and all that, what actual reason can you bring forth that bio computing makes quantum computing look pale in comparison? No offense meant, I'd just like to hear a bit of your reasons.

That's not really the argument. Biocomputers and quantum computing could be used for different purposes, especially since a biocomputer may resist magic or be accessed from astral space perhaps or be used in human to machine interfaces that take up less essence, etc.

Might want to consider these articles for their "augmented reality" idea:

I find it hard to accept that an extension of this to SR means "digital fireballs" and that assorted nonsense.

I'm actually watching an interesting video which seamlessly incorporates digital constructs into video of live action (like the first down line they show in football games, or the puck tracking system Fox unveiled several years ago). Actually, it is so unrevolutionary in Shadowrun that the tactical computer from way back in SR1/2 (nice transition product) did something similar, projecting icons of where targets were expected to be, and filling them out from partial cover (or so it was claimed, and they did so without affecting game mechanics).

The only thing to "digital fireballs" will be those people that hack their ASIST feeds to include BTL peeks - then a hacker could inflict damage, in theory. I expect most users will be using either cold ASIST-Reality integration systems or the 2070 equivalent of VR goggles (contact lenses and a simple trode system or finger-board probably), which will leave little for such biofeedback. At best one could cloud the field of vision before the user disconnected, or, for those with simsense, a hacker could introduce emotional feeds to influence a certain outcome.

Or one could force users to see lights that either damage the eyes or cause seizures....

Well, likely not since the lenses wouldn't allow brightness to that point and simsense can't hurt the eyes. Seizures are a possibility I suppose, but no doubt they could design counters for it as well (hardware that monitors the brain or device and auto disconnects for example). I really doubt anyone running less than hot ASIST will be at risk, which makes an interesting point for hacker on hacker battles.

Actually, the idea of blinding someone's vision via their augmented reality goggles (once again, sensing more of a Snow Crash vibe than Cybergenerations) would be really cool. If you watch that video, actually, one of the most distracting things is that they made the digital helicopter louder than the presenter's voice. If someone suddenly pulsed your screen and speakers, it might take a second to react. In SR, a second can kill you.

My thoughts exactly. Of course, I think many people will be running some sort fo SPAM gurad program on the computer end, so it shouldn't be an easy feat. Maybe one must alter the code to appear as an emergency broadcast, or piggy back on the targets current feeds... Of course, this is all wild speculation.

As for full conversion Borgs...... Try a little Cybermancy.

No, no cybermancy is nescessary. Try a little deltaware.

Who needs deltaware? Using strictly alphaware, you can have a character with a cybertorso, 4 cyberlimbs, and a cyberskull. That's pretty close to a full-conversion borg, or at least as close to one as I'd care to see.

We just need the internal power cell to replace the digestive system. Replace the lungs with air tanks and a filtered intake system and the only thing you need to find a replacement for is the heart, and I guess the tongue and facial/neck muscles.

It's technically pretty close to a full conversion cyborg. The problem is that you're also not really good for anything more than being a walking cybersuitcase.

Whereas the old-school full conversion borgs weren't just retards made of metal, they were guys with absolutely inhuman strength, speed, and resilience (across the board), and all sorts of other built-in goodies. Someone all gimped out in Alphaware cyberlimbs (with the higher levels of cyberlimb attribute enhancement requiring not only absurd amounts of money, but a larger Essence investment to boot) is more like "kind of nifty man," who could just as easily be made (and surpassed) by someone devoting a few extra attribute points to themselves, instead.

There's not much to be afraid of from a "full conversion borg" in Shadowrun, done up in that style. Not much at all.
