How does potency work and how does one obtain it? If someone could supply some page numbers, that would be tremendous.

Potency is something corrupted casters get. Its a special pool that can be used for any magic test and its quite scary. I've recently been reading up on the specifics of how it works for an upcoming run. You can find the info on pages 123 & 124 of MitS.
