Seriously? Some decker would run into Psychotropic IC making them think they could do it, they'd walk up to a bunch of uzi-wielding gangstas and raise their hand, and their bullet-riddled corpse would bleed messily.

Now, a magician can just chalk it up to a funky Bullet Barrier spell.

Or he'd have to be a really high initiate and use a very powerful telekinesis spell on each of the bullets. He'd need a custom bullet time perception spell he'd need to sustain too.

How to stop bullets in Shadowrun...

Stand still. You have now stopped the bullets (unless their APDS or something else super nasty).

Surviving the stopping of said bullets was never a stated goal of this experiment...

Actually, the bullets won't stop if they're larger caliber, but proceed to fly and hit whoever or whatever is behind the PC.

Kyhan:

I found a power on the Web that sounds like it'd be just the thing you want.

Here's the link:

KillJoy's Shadowrun Center--Adept Powers

The one you're looking for is called "Dodge".

Alternatively, would a high-level version of Enhanced Reflexes in combination with Bullet Barrier work?

Here's another possibility that you might want to consider. I found it on an SR-related Website. Unfortunately, the site appears to be gone now. :( (I just checked.)

Quickening (not to be confused with the Metamagical technique by the same name, or with anything from the Highlander movies or the television series --two live-action, 1 animated-- based upon them).

Quickening, Level 1 (a/k/a "Increased Reflexes, Level 4")
Cost: 7 Power Points
(gives a +8 bonus to Reaction, +4d6 to initiative)

Level 2 (a/k/a "Increased Reflexes, Level 5")
Cost: 10 Power Points
(gives a +10 bonus to Reaction, +5d6 to Initiative)

Notes:

Only possible with great expenditure of energy by magically-advanced Adepts, the acquisition of greater speeds in combat is rare on the street. However, the occasional dedicated individual has been noted who not only REACTS more quickly, but virtually BLURS, seemingly almost able to dodge bullets at will.

(For some reason, I'm reminded of "Roy Batty" from Blade Runner, or of "Deathstroke the Terminator" (LTC. Slade Joseph Wilson, U.S. Army (Ret.)) from DC Comics. :) )

As always, YMMV. :)

The question was the bullet stopping in the Matrix movies. You got to stop them before they hit you, as per the question. However you do not need to survive after they have stopped, yes.

So a Physical Barrier or a Bullet limited version of Physical Barrier, or even an Armour spell.

They don't even need to be large caliber. As long as they're not deforming ammunition, and shot from anything bigger than a .22, they're very likely to pass through a human; even a hollow point fired from a medium-caliber pistol (9x19mm, .40 S&W, .45 ACP) might penetrate 15+ inches/38+ cm of human tissue, enough to pass through most human chests on an unobstructed direct hit and threaten anyone or anything behind.

I'm putting my money on the properly fluffed Bullet Barrier. A basic Physical Barrier should show an effect similar to the bullets hitting a wall -- they'd be brought to a stop instantly or they'd deflect, and they'd likely shatter if they don't penetrate.

real life yes, SR no. the simple reason for that is that you dont have penetration rules in SR :P (that is unless raygun have something on his site)

I don't think so - can't remember an official rule/power/spell which allows such action.

Supposing the Neo Mage could act before the lead-slinging goons got a chance to fire off their rounds, a bullet barrier or physical barrier spell would work just fine. Just describe the effect you want to happen to the GM and let the GM decide if that's a reasonable set of "visuals" for the spell.

So far adepts can only yank slow moving projectiles (read: arrows or slower) out of the air. This has always seemed odd to me, as my adepts encounter way more bullets than arrows these days. Suggests that there should be a power that allows adepts to catch bullets.... with their teeth.

The post should be cheap - it's dangerous to catch bullets these days. Let's say 0.25 points for the power, ok?

Nah, no such power for an adept. :(

The rules most relevant to the scene from the movie would likely be found in the Matrix book, probably a special utility or a defense on the fly using hacking pool. 8)

A customized manipulation spell similar to physical barrier would do it, as others have said. Or, if you like, since Neo does his stuff in the matrix, it could just be a decker using his armour utility to nerf the attack of some IC.

Custom Mass Magic Fingers, as the bullets, individually are very light and have little mass. I don't recall any mechanic in the spell info about overcoming inertia.

For the Matrix-version I like the Shield utility more than Armor.

That would make it so much easier for Nightshade, my adept with Missile Mastery, to never run out of weapons (provided he gets shot up alot)

What do people think of a custom TK Manipulation that repels a limited Target?

Set the TN as the OR in this case fairly high for bullets, changing depending on the type of round. Each success would reduce the number of successes of an opposed test, in this case the shooting test to hit you. (For Metahumans it could be resisted with Willpower to approach the mage)

I think I'd call it "Bullet Barrier." But I'm a fogey.
