they'll all be good fluff, so the rules change won't affect them. and if SR4 turns out to sucketh mightily, they'll add value when i ebay my collection.

You know I'm buying SoLA, and LA is now even more of a given, so... eff it. Might as well get SoA, too. I can read about Central Asia and the Caucasus, although I doubt anything bad will be going on there.

And unlike mfb, I haven't really considered eBaying anything if and when I stop playing SR. I figure a funeral pyre would be more fitting. Preservation through destruction, and so on.

I'm snaggin' all three. Why not? I've got more SR books than I don't, right now, and there's no reason not to grab the last three for the edition I know I like, right?

... I feel so alone. ;)

I don't really have much interest in Latin America, so probably just LA and SoA for me. I'm not even sure about SoA, though. I plan on keeping most of my SR in North America and Europe, but a side trip to Asia would be interesting...

We can be alone together. I just don't see needing any help coming up with dangerous, oddball, sociopathic organizations. Hell our PC team _IS_ a dangerous, oddball, sociopathic organisation, although occasionaly "organisation" might not be the best word choice. :silly:

I am a sucker for mid-south america info though, and the years upon years of curiosity about Tibet will likely drive me to purchase SoA just to read about that....as long as there is at least a full page on it. If the info is still really sparse on Tibet i'll have to think about it, but i'll likely still get it.

I'll buy them all because I'm an obsessive compulsive little monkey RE SR, and have been since I was fifteen.

But I want to point out that FanPro (who cannot hit a release date with a flamethrower) has said that LA, SoA, SoLA, and SF will all be out before SR4, which is scheduled, we-do-it-or-die-trying, for Gencon in August.

They'll have to release a book about every three weeks.

What are the odds?

A good point. If SF is delayed past SR4, the reason for the book's existence kinda dies.

LA should be coming out soon, but I doubt that the other 2 will make it before the release of SR$. To be fair, since they're all fluff, it doesn't really matter.

Sorry, were you making a joke/being sarcastic? Without emoticons it's difficult to tell and that sentence made me do a doubletake. :)

I was being sarcastic. After all, how could someone who reads IWPR religiously assume that?

I never have found a good site to follow news in Iran though, which is a shame.

SoLA I am definitely buying. SOA too probably just because the groups of PC's we have travel so extensively. My only real concern is that either/both of the books will be so "amerikanized" that I'll choke on gamer-bile. I've never been happy with the way Latin America has been portrayed or envisioned. Too much Tex-Mex Happy Cinco-de-Mayo crap for me. I want to see/read/"feel" if you will the mixed blend of societies and culturues that the Latin Americas really are.

SOA ... hrm ... Tibet holds no real interest for me, but any real/significant information on Korea(s), Taiwan and India/Kashmire/Pakistan would make me happy. We've decided for our games that Pakistan is one-big happy Merc-Army-For-Hire turf that is really just the Pakistani army out to pay it's bills. The rest of it extends beyond pure conjecture.

SR4 ... most of the gang here has the same opinion ... we're waiting but not holding our breath either.

God and everyone else knows I'm not exactly pleased with how Aztlan has been depicted or evolved in canon, but I'm inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt after my pleasant suprise at how well some of the more recent books have come out.

Besides, it's not like they can do worse without actually trying.

It's been said in this thread that, the books being not so much crunchy-bits based, that SR4 would not really effect them. I beg to differ. I can't see how the crash of the matrix and the downfall of the nuyen could possibly *not* have a large impact on any part of the globe, including asia and SA.

I intend to buy them all, simply because buying books is my Dharma, but I don't expect they will be out before SR4.

Well, for many of the places, a Matrix Crash would affect them. But that doesn't make the material useless. Year of the Comet affected Aztlan, but I still use my old SR2 Aztlan book regularly.

I find I agree with DE here. A matrix crash of the magnitude that is being hinted at would effect global everything, but not necessarily in the first wave.

For instance: Main Crash happens. As all those involved in the global economic infrastructure scramble to survive, they start pulling in work as well as trying to salvage as much/any of their archived data. Many organizations probably still function as data warehouses and those locales are often more remote than some might imagine (or perhaps maybe, some *should* imagine for good story dev).

What might qualify as Secondary/Tertiary Economic regions of the globe would start to feel the backlash of the crash within 24-120 hours depending upon the degree of economic isolationism/independency they possess. Small remote communities in Amazonia, Africa and Asia for instance might not be impacted at all save for that one courier/employee who carries a copy of his divisions records with him at all times. He learns his satellite-powered commline suddenly isn't working right and decides to hang-low until he gets a call from corporate headquarters. Corporate headquarters contacts some retrieval specialists (aka; runners) and send them to go get them. Corporate enemy #310 gets downwind of the contact and where they are headed and send a counter-extraction/retrieval team of their own and so on.

Imagine what would/will have happened during the crash period with regards to communications in general? All those fixers/mechanics/gear-providers suddenly have to find new ways of communicating with one another.

Watcher Grid anyone??? The Inuit were hinted at doing it in the earlier SR books, it would be interesting to see what kind of survive-or-die patch work would arise from such an event.

FYI, SoLA has a good deal of both South American and European writers (in addition to North American ones).

Military dictatorship that was Japan's bitch up until the comet induced earthquake and new Emperor pulled the troops out. As for the future, I'm guessing a toned down Huk/Philippines and the PPG moving in big in support of corps like Eastern Tiger and Kwonsham Industries to help push the Japanacorps out.

How could you possibly infer a military dictatorship from a term like President-General?

You mean the one that was never once mentioned until Szeto decided to toss a reference to it into a shadowcomment in SOTA64?

In his defense Jon was graciously paving the way for my material in SoA. As to why it hasn't been mentioned before, you can chalk it up to it happening more than 30 years ago and the fact that it is a matter of deep shame for all involved and for more reasons than you might think...
