I hate this crap. I lost a long goddamn post because Windows sucks ass.

I think DT would be the same as Lone Star DPI--Arrogant as all hell. "You need us, so kiss our asses for showing up in the morning." I figure they either beagn as a separate Directorate, or fought like Hell to make it one.

They'd be very important in working with DO. Clandestine Service would be even more important because the very ubiquity of the Matrix would make the most sensitive data that intelligence agencies seek to gather almost impossible to get without it. I think the emphasis that we've seen in the last two years to increase the CS budget will have come and gone in SR by the end of the GGD, and especially now that the Matrix is everywhere (although the intel gathered there would be important, too). Between the DO and the DIA's Defense HUMINT Service and their collaboration with DT/whatnot, they would be very much active, but still not as well-funded as DT or Matrix-based intelligence gathering. The problem is that creating a network takes years and requires a lot of effort that does not produce a lot of short-term results, which is a problem if the people in charge are not aware of this situation.

BTW, Gen. Bowling was not the one running illegal ops into NAN. He replaced the DCI who was (As I said earlier).

For the rated facets of Intel how about:

Human & Animal Intelligence (HUMINT)
Signal Intelligence (SIGINT)
Image Intelligence (IMINT)
Measurement & Signature Intelligence (MASINT)
Technical Intelligence (TECHINT)
Mana Intelligence (MANINT)
Domestic Intelligence (Domestic)
Counter Intelligence (Counter or CI)

Covert & Clandestine (Clandestine)
Psychological & Disinformation (PSYOPS)

Analysis & Compilation (Analysis)
Dissemination (Dissemination)
Research & Development (Research)

Example
CODE
Central Intelligence Agency (CIA)

HUMINT        6
SIGINT        6
IMINT         6
MASINT        6
TECHINT       6
MANINT        6
Domestic      0
CounterINT    3
Clandestine   4
PSYOPS        6
Analisys      8
Dissemination 4
Research      5

Total         72

If I remember Corporate Shadowfiles correctly, they were of ten.

I think it's a good start. I like it, although I'm not sure about the ratings you have for the CIA for things such as SIGINT. I think a country by country chart would be great, and then a breakdown of agencies in countries like the UCAS where some of the agencies are specialized based on the type of intelligence.

I wrote up a brief bio of a possible Dep. Dir. Tham. (DDT) and I've been trying to figure out how to organize such a directorate. I'm going to be very busy with other things, but I might be able to produce something by the end of this weekend.

Random example. I just gave the CIA an average rating scale with no Domestic because they can't and a high Analysis because they do. I actually thought about using the Ancients to show how it might work... Maybe I still will.

The only bad thing about this would be the independents and such. I say break them apart and have a "Stuff" about supporting agencies -like links to the agencies and areas of support. Though use the "total average" capabilities of the agency using its support and resources at its operational disposal.

Possibly, but don't lets go overboard. If they wanted they could walk out the door tomorrow and into a corporate job at probably double their salary. If they're in government work it probably means that they're either fairly patriotic or it's the best they're likely to get. Whilst magic can be important in some circumstances, it's not going to be any more so than IMINT or mundane sources and case officers on the ground. If anything, less so IMO.

Yeah, but look at the NSA. Back before the bubble burst, they had a Hell of a time recruiting, even with other supplemental financial incentives (e.g., scholarships). Turnover was a bitch, with many people doing 3-5 years at Ft. Meade and then leaving to work for RSA or some other company making 3-4 times as much. Unlike programmers or math Ph.D.s, magic is a far more inelastic commodity where government work would be a good place to weather hiring freezes because IMO they don't exist in the magic market. That was actually one of the main points I made when I was writing about the DCI and the IC and how any good that came since the '57 election has been pissed away.

SSD Yamatetsu's Special Security Detail (pg140 CD), I'm putting this as Yamatetsu's "other" intelligence group. It currently acts like a secert police FBI type group, but counterinsergency (their main specialization) seems to be where one would start sending people undercover and developing networks. Also, Buttercup might have her own spy network, but we know next to nothing about it (see Dot6W, Masaru section).

Saeder-Krupp Prime The more I read about it the more I think it has to be considered S-K's CIA agengy, controling all of the dragon's other groups and compiling the data. And, yeah, I just got (and finished) CD.

The SSD has officially bodyguards' duties much like the US Secret Service, except that many agents are undercover in the staff of the people they protect. But it "acts as a bodyguard team." That's what is in the main text page 118. Then only the GM Game Information page 140 indicates they are doing counterintelligence work and sometimes black ops as well. So the statusand duties of that group doesn't seem to be yet fully known by the people outside of Yamatetsu.

Agreed. However, it seems like all Yamatetsu departments are expanding and bubbling out everywhere. The Naval Tech gets a SEAL and Intelligence in about a year (from CD to T:WL). The SSD is branching out, but isn't effective outside the corp in CD, but what about by 2064?

Raygun hurt his back, and hasn't had the time to check in according to the site.

You beat me to the bump :D

I wondered, if just for clarity, we should start a thread to hash out the individual agencies abilities, as I think we finished step one.

Raygun, like the new look of the site except that it doesn't work well with 800x600 view. At the very least I need a scroll bar on the Navigation. Maybe check the browser size and add one for those smaller than whatever you made it for.

Christ, man. What are you? Blind? ;)

I fixed it a few days back. Hopefully that works for you. There's nothing I can do about the table pages in the right frame. It's designed for 1024x768.

Yeah. Between the herniated disc and business as of late I haven't had hardly any time to deal with the intel site. Now I have a whole shitload to read in here in order to catch up with you guys. Might take me a while. Sorry I'm holding up the show, guys.

For the Johnny Hardcores amongst you, there are a couple of universities that offer Intelligence Studies as a minor, a major, or even a graduate degree program specifically in Intelligence Studies (as opposed to almost every school in international affairs offering of Security Studies).

I also found this interesting (especially the professors' backgrounds).

Hhmm, interesting. :) Although how useful the courses themselves would be I couldn't say. Bringing up this thread again, I'm actually trying to rough out some ideas for UK agencies at the moment. Maybe get some - half arsed ;) - content up one of these days.

Well, I overheard a couple of CIA recruiters talking about one in specific, and I thought I'd look it up and share.

Well, if you guys need any RL info on the NSA and such, I can help to an extent. :) (And there's still a lot of turnover for some areas, at least, of the NSA. Or there was about six to eight years ago; I can't imagine that would've changed very much since.)

Um, all he did was make the text bold. You can do that by using the appropriate button on the post page, or by hand by typing {b}text to be bolded{/b}, except replace the {} with [].

Heh. Not quite. I was just an Air Force linguist, as was my husband. We'd been stationed in Hawaii at Kunia; I left the military while we were there. Afterward, he (we) were sent to Ft. Meade, where he went to work in the NSA building.
