Take Resident Evil, give it a good plot, and you've got Killer7.

I don't really play CRPGs for the story alone, either. If the gameplay or subject matter doesn't interest me, the fact that it isn't an FPS isn't enough to keep me playing. However, in general, CRPG and RTS entertain me a hell of a lot more than any FPS ever did. "Run shoot run shoot run shoot run shoot run shoot key run shoot run shoot run shoot ammo run shoot run shoot run shoot run shoot run shoot door run shoot run shoot run shoot run shoot die."

...The Opening of Misty Beethoven, released in 1975, was the Half-Life 2 of porno movies.

I would also humbly submit Mezzo Forte and Kite... Although Hentai, Mezzo Forte always strikes me as very Shadowrun-esqe.

And DAMN! I always forget to add it to the Shadowrun Movies thread. Oh well, I'll get it on the next one, which should be starting any day now...

Oh man, I *loved* Kite. I watched it several times. My favorite part is where the main character kicks the bodyguard in the crotch and he vomits carrots and peas. I've actually used, "vomits carrots and peas" in my SR games because that scene influenced me so much.

Plus the rounds flying from the pistol with the casing still attached was funny.

I haven't seen Mezzo Forte but I've really, really wanted to.

Kite is wonderful, yes, but I question the labeling "porn". There were a number of sex scenes, but mostly too short and nonconsensual to be sexually gratifying (and even if you like the nonconsensual bit, the short part remains).

That said, its prototype (Yellow Star, a Cool Devices episode) definitely was porn.

Oh, man, Yellow Star! One of my all time favorites, complete with exploding windup toys of death!

I've got that on my hard drive, I like it so much. I remember the guy who gave it to me said that it was his favorite Cool Devices of all time, and that he'd consider buying Cool Devices worth it just for Yellow Star.

I wanna see the whole Cool Devices series sometime. I've seen a few but not the whole thing.

Add in a pop-up screen labeled:
a) Tell me about Markus.
b) Where can I find a Rogue Guild?
c) Sell 5 rat spleens for 10 copper pieces.
d) Leave

...and you got yourself an CRPG. :)

Maybe to some people. It's all about taste. Frankly, I don't think many of the CRPG's I've played lately are that simplistic. And even if they are, I like the gameplay and game type much better.

In short, I enjoy playing Diablo 1 more than I enjoy Half Life. Some don't.

I will say that even the example you gave provides for more divergent and immersive story lines than most FPS's I've played. Even if they are somewhat linear (in that you get each "story" once, and then usually only if you choose that story, or meet the criteria for that story), at least they exist.

Shadowrun Gameplay Footage: How Can Anyone Mess Up A Sure Thing This Bad?

How does any developer take a cyberpunk game property as cool as the Shadowrun RPG and butcher it to mesh into this sort of bland, bunny-hooping team deathmatch?
